If you aggressive drive, then your engine isn't going to last long anyway. If you let the car idle before turning it off, then the engine could heat up. And idling the car before driving it is the opposite of stop-start, you are wasting fuel. I change the oil once a year when getting the pink slip, around every 30k km, and the engine runs as good as new. The people with cars that blow smoke tend to also be the ones that are bad drivers.
I bought a new golf gti 23 years ago for £15,000 and I would estimate it’s now worth about £1,000. That’s a whole £14,000 I have lost!!! 😡 Archie, please advise me what I should do about this depreciation. Should I sell the car and cut my losses? Thanks! 🙏

And the 3-series got the huge horrible screens too so not even that is usable. I just bought what must be the last acceptable BMW, the g31 estate car, made in 2023. And of course you can’t buy a new BMW if you don’t want to keep it for many many years. Buy it second hand as it’s the first years depreciation that is the most brutal. I paid AUD 74.000 for my 2023 520d, mileage 3000, immaculate of course. As it’s probably one of the last diesel engined car sold by BMW in the UK I intend to keep it a long time, no waiting to get a charge for me…
