I’ve been living with a leaking Frigidaire fridge for over a year. Finally decided to try and fix it and your tutorial seems to have done the trick. Very easy to follow. I detached the inner panel and started pouring hot water down the drain hole and it all flowing back into the freezer. So I went to the back and detached the drain hose and put it to my lips and gave it a good blow (hehe) and heard something fly out of the other end. Presumably ice. I then reattached the hose and poured more hot water down the drain hole inside the freezer and saw no more back flow. Why Frigidaire have such a poorly designed drain is beyond me. They could have done better.
I agree thanks for watching we appreciate your viewership
mine had a pink substance at the beginning section rear drainhose. Didnt look like any kind of insulation type of substance so i just unblocked what i could.
@@jamielamarche2276 Thanks for your viewership . 😁
They want it to break or leak, so you'll buy a new one. All the plastic shelves break too.
I just fixed my leak because of this comment! Thanks!
As a maintenance guy, i taped a small flexible hose to the end of a turkey baster. It works well because you can deliver the piping hot water directly to the ice. Then when the water cools you can suck it out and replace it with more hot water until you see it drain.
Great idea. This will help for some of the other people on the channel. Thanks for watching in your listenership we appreciate it.
Thanks for the easy fix! I followed your advice 2 years ago and did what you said. It lasted until recently, I’m glad I saved your video! I used my coffee maker to heat the water then poured all 12 cups of water down the drain hole to make sure it was clear. It’s all good now, much appreciated 😊

Such a quick fix! took in total about 20min and solved my problem exactly. there was a build up of minerals or something in the black drain pipe. once I cleared that and melted the ice in the drip pan, its been working great ever since. thank you very much for making this video!

I just funneled hot water thru the grille and it worked fine. I was able to see under the front and the drain hose started working. WTG!!

Good video. I opened mine up by removing the tube and blowing on it...blew some junk out.
Thanks for your viewership and support we appreciate you. Glad we could help out. I hope it's working better.
My fridge looks just like yours, so this was great thank you!!! One question though, when you cleaned the ice from the interior behind the panel why could you not just pour hot water down the drain hole there?
Sorry that's actually what we did. I should have mentioned that.
@@productreviews691 no worries, I've seen some that had gunk (not just ice) and you actually have to take the back panel off to clean it out like you did.
I'm just trying to avoid extra work because I've got young special needs kids running around so this means doing repairs either late at night or as little and quickly as possible. 😄
Thanks dude 👍👍

I’m helping my mom with what I think is the same problem from your video. Same model. She unplugged it last Sunday so I imagine all the water has thawed out by now.
What is a good way to prevent this from happening again? Don’t keep the freezer on the coldest setting to prevent refreezing? Clean/flush the line out every now and then?
I told her to plug it in again since it’s been a week and I imagine there’s no more ice?
Yeah there should be no more ice after a week. The problem for us was yeah it was on its coldest setting also ice in the back will build up in the freezer if it's not cleaned.
I’ve had water coming from the left side of my Frigidaire. It’s happened twice now. The second time was about 3-4 wks after the first time. The fridge is fairly new but I’m wondering if that’s a sign of a clogged drain
Yeah it's possible it's frozen drain. You can try the tricks to try to run it through in the video if it doesn't work I would call the Frigidaire technician this is common with Frigidaire refrigerators. Not too badmouth Frigidaire or anything but I had all their appliances removed . All them broke for me but I must have got a bad batch from the retailer I bought it from.
Do you need to unplug the fridge before you start doing anything or just when checking the back pipe?? can you leave it plugged in when unscrewing the inside and removing the ice built up with hot water/hairdryer?
You need to unplug the fridge for sure. Just as a precaution. Thanks for watching we appreciate it. Is some people have used a blow dryer. I just used hot water down is hot water down the drain where it iced up.
THANK YOU
Your welcome friend. Thanks for watching. We appreciate your viewership.
So my fridge is leaking but nothing is clogged. We recently moved and I thought it might have broken or torn a line, but everything matches exactly up to yours. Any advice on how I can stop the leakage from the drain line? I don't get how it's suppose to reach the drip pan when it's on the opposite side
Did you open the vent yet? Also did you take the back panel off. There's a tube behind there make sure the fridge is unplugged... You'll have to get the tube off and You can stick your finger in the drain where is where the tube is.
I looked at mine and wondered if there is ice in the black tube why is that? Won’t it just keep freezing up after you get the ice out?
Wow i fixed it all alone! Then i will not feel 🤬🤬when i put my feet near the fridge in the night haha Sincerly thank you!
You're welcome it was my pleasure I'm glad we helped out.
The icemaker “that I don’t use + been shut off for 4 years”
the freezer was frozen up last night sounding like a helicopter, defrosted it overnight with door open.. towels soaked in the morning close the door at 11 AM. Just got home at 8:30pm and it’s freezing up again ➡️ looks like water is leaking from the top of the ice maker down the back panel with a big clear chunk of ice coming out from the panel by the top and second shelf. Defrosted it overnight. Pluged it back in this morning and thought the problem was solved ➡️ not the case. Why all of a sudden this is happening after all this time.?
I tried to pull the hose out and it's not coming out. I don't want to tear anything up. If it's hard to pull out.. if easy will it go back in? I can barely see in there to be able to put it back or see how it's suppose to go. Thanks
Also behind the panel was just a puddle of water in the pan... but I keep having to hammer out blocks 9f ice from under the bottom basket. It gets stuck, i yank it out, hammer out the chunk of ice and put it back.
Once you take the cardboard off unscrew the bolts off. If the hose won't pull out it might not be the right model. The hose should pull out ,you should be able to stick your finger in the drain pipe. The drain Pan should be full of ice that needs to have warm water put down it to be melted and something to catch it. If that doesn't work you'll have to probably do a service call unfortunately .
Wish me luck. I have an upright/standing freezer/fridge side by side model as well. Looks just like your video inside
Good luck you'll be happy when it's fixed
@@productreviews691 Thanks. Still working though it's. Unfortunately mine is a bit different and I don't think I can detach the drain line. At least not without a major disassembly.
I almost used Draino but realize that since it won't drain out of the house it's probably not a good idea because it will keep the chemical and fumes in the house and drain tray.
I was able to wiggle the drain line around, which may have helped though I am not certain it's 100 percent fixed. A couple of cups of water did seem to go down
@@funstuffonthenet5573 Are there screws at the bottom of the hose
@@funstuffonthenet5573 I had to disassemble the hose from from the refrigerator
@@productreviews691 No the hose just goes into a hole and that's all I see. I would probably need to disassemble inside more to access the connection.
Anyways wiggling the cable seemed to lossen it up and the drain started to gush.
I'm guessing calcium or something had built up in it. I really don't think it was ice since the block was in the middle of the line, outside the fridge. And hot water didn't unblock it.
Anyways, it's working for now :)
Soooo....finally got the back off inside the freezer. Poured hot water down the drain. Used a blow dryer as well. I don't see any more ice. I can't get the black drain hose off. Is this because it's still frozen or maybe because it's an older version? I do see where the black drain tube goes to the tray under the fridge side and I do not see any water. I'm guessing that's due to it being blocked still? 😔 I seen where you commented about the water evaporating bit since it's unplugged I would guess it would go to the tray?
It's possible that it's a different model. Sounds like it could still be blocked. Can you stick your finger in the drain hole? I put a bowl underneath to catch the warm water that melted the ice.
@@productreviews691 I can put it in there a little bit from the inside. I'm gonna try more boiling water. Here's me trying to blow a straw in there. 🤣 Water goes thru the hole if I just put some hot in. Otherwise it trickles down where the ice was. It doesn't go into the pan though & that's why I feel it's still frozen. I'm trying to fix this before I get my kitchen floor repaired. I appreciate your help and your quick response to an old video!
Where do we pour water to unclog the pipe? I have a hair dryer shooting up it now but it’s not doing too much
In the last part of the video you need to go back behind the cardboard section of the refrigerator. On the bottom right hand side there's a tube going to the inside of the fridge it's a drain tube on the back. Make sure the refrigerator is off take off that drain tube and there is a plug where you can stick your finger in that's the drain plug where the water drains out
@@productreviews691 think I got it! Great video huge help!!

No problem thanks for your viewership will appreciate it.
I did this but notice that drain hole it’s just to small and will ice up again!!! I cleaned up but
Ice up again I’m thinking in making the hole bigger!!
Hey can I just pour boiling water down the drain behind the panel in the freezer and it unclog everything? That way you don't have to take the back off and do all that.
Nice good tip. Thanks for watching we appreciate your viewership and listenership
I did this i unplugged my freezer for a few hours used a blow dryer to thaw all the ice that was blocking the drain. Then I plugged my fridge back in and it was draining like normal. Then about a week later I noticed it was frozen again. I adjusted the freezer temperature and the drain keeps freezing, any idea what I should do? Please help 🙏
Did you go into the drain and put your pinky in there to see it if there was still any blockage. Thanks for your listener ship and viewership we appreciate it.
I'm a little bit lost, what is the purpose of unscrewing the parts inside the freezer on the inside, I did not see what you did, did you pour hot water down there? was it to just show were drain was? Can you make another video on where and how you actually unclogged the pipe ,
Thanks
So inside the freezer you unscrew the shelves. At the bottom left-hand corner there is a little vent looking thing. It looks like an air conditioner vent. Take that off. Then there's a little drain pan with the drain. You can pour the hot water down there.
@@productreviews691 so do I need to open the back also, and thanks a lot for replying so quickly
No problem yes. So you'll turn the power off to the fridge. Just unplug it. In the back there's a panel. Unscrew all of the panel on the bottom of the fridge. It's cheap particle board type cardboardish stuff. When you unscrew it on the bottom right hand side there's a pipe it's the drain pipe. You should be able to unscrew the drain pipe and put your finger inside the drain to see if it's unblocked. There's like one screw you have to take off to get to the drain pipe or you can stick your finger in. Be careful because there might be some sharp pieces don't want you to cut your finger.
Great video this cleared up a lot of things for me. Quick question though, do I clean the drain behind the panel inside the freezer first? Or unclog the frozen drain at the back first? Or does it matter?
Yes the drain behind the panel I just dumped hot water inside the clogged drain. When that's unclog it will clear the lines.
Great video! I did the first part, broke all the ice laying in the drain and placed a blow dryer for about 2mins. 4 days later, again i see a small puddle of water in front of door. I did NOT do anything behind the refrigerator. I am a rookie. Any advice?
You need to go through the back play that's cardboard unscrew the screws. Make sure the refrigerator is unplugged. The drain pipe behind it is still clogged. The drain pipe needs to have warm water dumped down the drain so that pipe behind the fridge will have drainage running freely. That's what's causing the blockage. You're doing great if you need anything hit me up.
So where does the water go in the drain?
Drainage tubes direct the runoff to a drain pain, which Frigidaire locates just above the compressor motor in the bottom of the unit. Once in the drain pan, the water evaporates.
Thanks for watching we really appreciate your viewership.
@@productreviews691 So you are getting a sheet of ice on the freeze side which i get, plus i get a pool of water on the right side on the floor. IS this related? Because if it is frozen and can't drain then where is the water coming from on the right side? IT happens like once week, taking the ice sheet out and drying the floor. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
I hate Fridgidaire. It's a good thing I'm renting because when I get a permanent place there will not be any Fridgidaire products at all in it. I also had a Fridgidaire dishwasher that the landlord has to now replace yay!!

The question is? Where is the water coming from? Answer is the is maker down spout is u shaped and the water spills over the sides when it fills. The fix is fixing the downspout to a tube with tape or plastic. Get inventive. There is a vid a guy made with electric tape
Ice maker not maker

Hi Man ! You saved me ! My drain put was plugged with ice only , I was able to remove the blockage with a hair dryer .. no need to disassemble it
Glad we could help. Thanks for watching our show. We appreciate the support.
Saw a video where the dude used hot water and a turkey baster.
Yeah that would work really good. It's actually a good idea
Thank you for your video. I had the exact same issue. I followed your instruction and I think the blockage is cleared. Water from the freezer was draining into the drain pan.
That was extremely helpful, thank you so much.
Drain hose is very tight and afraid may break something trying to get it off !! Any tips ?
There's a drain inside the freezer at the bottom. We ran water through the inside of it to defrost it. If you can't find the drain in the freezer. On the far right of the Frigidaire the drain hose is underneath the fridge. If it's frozen take luke warm water make sure the fridge is off and put lukewarm water underneath the hose. The lukewarm water should melt the ice. The best way is to open the panel where the drain is at and run water down the drain lukewarm water to melt the ice. That will take care of the problem.
@@productreviews691 ok, so question~ when I unplug the refrigerator, inside the refrigerator (freezer) there is a huge ice built up, which i have defrost twice already; puddle appears days later, even when i place lukewarm water inside the bottom freezer rubber drain it stays there and doesnt drain at all, so i use the hair blowdryer to heat it out. When i go behind the refrigerator, i just see this black rubber hose, but i dont know what to do with it from the very very top as it sweats
same here. used blow dyer to defrost. pulled the power cord first. used air compressor to blow line out.
Does this fix only apply when there is water or ice buildup inside the bottom of the fridge?
Yes if the back lines Frozen. It will start to back up and leak water all over the place and your kitchen will be puddled. This is how you stop the puddling. If you have any other questions feel free to message me I'd be happy to answer them for you.
In the video around 5:45, when the drain tube is shown, it seems to be looped around causing a "drain trap." Is this necessary? It seems to me the water will back up in the tube causing it to drain slowly allowing it to back up into the catch pan inside the freezer and enabling the train system to freeze up. Would there be any harm in straightening the tube and allowing it to flow more freely?
That's what I did and I ran lukewarm water through it to melt it. I didn't mess with the tubes too much. Just enough to wiggle it to unfreeze it.
The tube needs to be that way to form a P trap
@@TheMBunk to keep sewer gases from my drip pan from getting into my freezer?
@@TRaySufczynski lol that's a good one! I think the trap is to keep the warm air under the freezer out of the freezer. Maybe?
