    Hi Paul … these are great new additions to Surface Builder. I think Snapshots will be especially useful.

    Paul, does Snapshot work with MIDI Program change #s? It could be useful to have a bunch of buttons sending MIDI program change commands, and use Snapshots to give the buttons an alternate bunch of program changes… just a thought…

      You can do that with Steppers... makes more sense with a stepper as we can change the value on the fly but turn continuous off.

    Hi Paul, once again cool features. As a request would it please be possible to have a dial work on incremental clicks being a division of the full value? Could that be possible? Many thanks

      Spinners should really be used for this kind of thing, what are you trying to control?

    With the snapshots, is it possible to slow the movement from one snapshot to the other down. As it currently stands if you change, snapshots your parameters, change abruptly. I was thinking if it’s possible to have a slow transition.

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  Рік тому +1

      This makes perfrect sense in a mixing app, but in the case of SB transitions are really bad. If you imagine a control for sending program changes morphing from one preset to another via every other preset in between? In my experiments most apps crash lol The XY Pad has an option to glide from one poition to another, and I may add that to faders and sliders as this is the only other place it makes sense.

    Hi Paul. Can you cover in a future video how to control the START/STOP transport from AUM? I’ve been trying but have not succeeded yet. Again…GREAT APP!!

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  Рік тому

      I wasn't aware this was possible, but I will look into it. I'm guessing this means sending some command to the AUM MIDI port, so you need to ensure it is mapped to a specific port prior to sending the command.

    • @gtrgeorge348
      @gtrgeorge348 Рік тому +1

      This is easy. Set up buttons to PLAY and STOP-REWIND, or whatever else you want to control (slider for tempo, buttons for Tap Tempo, etc) and set them to whatever you like; I use Ch 16 unused note numbers. Then go to the AUM “hamburger” menu, upper right corner, and go to MIDI CTRL - TRANSPORT PARAMETERS; everything you need is there. No way to post photos here, otherwise I’d show you screen shots.

      But still Can’t figure it out. AUM hamburger menu says note 80 for toggle play. I have a button Dual State on Port 15 sending note 80. Port 15 has an AUM destination. Chanel is of. Chanel on 1 to 16 has also No effect. Strange problem…..

      @@WimWaman you should have a MIDI channel #, Both on the Surface Builder button and the AUM setting. Also be sure that in AUM’s MIDI Control section you have Surface Builder set as the MIDI source; if it says NO MIDI SOURCE-TAP TO CONNECT, you have to specify Surface Builder and Port 15.

    Yet another great feature. Can't wait to try it out. I'm having a lot of fun with this app. At the risk of sounding ungrateful, I have one request, which I find myself in need of, which is a button which sends a random value. For example, a button that sends a random value between x and y for notes and CC values, and Program Change. It would be a great way to select a random preset in Copperhead, for example, or to change the reverb level, or LFO frequency on another app or device. You could make an entire panel of these in Surface Builder and then press buttons to experiment live with other apps. If you could point the random button to knobs or other surface controls simultaneously while using them to send messages to other apps/devices at the same time, then if you hit on something you liked, you could save the values it into a snapshot, almost like a preset for your project.
    I also noted from @AcoustiMan818, regarding automation. I've thought automation since the app first came out, and concluded that this app is intended to be a user-driven interactive interface, not an automation tool. It could certainly be used to trigger other apps that do automation such as Helium, MIDI Mixer, Drambo, NuRack, Mozaic, and so on. I'm not arguing against it, but I can see how keeping the app focused on a specific use would be easier to develop and less complex for people to use.
    Great stuff Paul!

      @PaultheMusicMan  Рік тому +1

      I agree with you, and this is the reason I didn't add a glide function to the snapshots, as it would not work well in all instances. For instance a Stepper control that selectes patches on a synth wouldn't want to animate between patches etc. This is a different app entirely and if that kind of functionality was to be built in it would be in the knob/fader etc and not a generalised function. I like the randomize idea by the way.

    • @edzielinski
      @edzielinski Рік тому

      @@PaultheMusicMan Great. I created a randomize button in Drambo in AUM and tied it into a knob on Surface Builder, and it works, but it would get very tedious doing that for a whole set of controls.

      You would be surprised how many use the iPad for music production. I've been releasing music apps on this platform for well over 10 years now, and there is no sign of that ending any time soon. A few of these apps can now be run on the M1 Mac too.

      I use a workaround with Helium to record controller movements within Surface Builder (SB) but it is a bit cumbersome and the recorded movements don’t send midi to output port of SB…
