  • This is the first in a series of videos for WaveCloud a granular synthesizer plugin for iOS.
We answer the question 'What is granular synthesis?', and go on to create our first preset using all the tools available. We also dive into how to use both Orbit Mode and WaveGlide to create movement in our samples.
This video also takes a brief look at applying and modulating a VCF (voltage controlled filter) using an LFO (low frequency oscillator) using the mod-matrix to link the controls.
If you have purchased WaveCloud and are enjoying the app please consider giving it a review on the App Store.

Really enjoying digging into this, Paul. The audio editor is excellent and powerful. Appending samples and using Waveglide to move between them actually gives a similar result to layering samples in Mitosynth and morphing between them. Very happy about that! 😃
Even just the additional OSC sounds great on its own in this.
Congrats and thank you for such an amazing product! 👏👏

How does this fair with drums? Well rhythm is suppose? Borderlands had an excellent update for sync but unfortunately it slips out of time these days.

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  6 місяців тому

@@Monotonous-Tedium I wouldn't use a granular app for drums because the syncing / looping is rarely linked to tempo with sample accuracy so it may slip over an extended period of time. It is possible to loop drum samples, but expect granular effected drums rather than a time stretch of the original as a result.

This is really a tremendous piece of work & I applaud your efforts to make a very controllable, flexible granular synth with options like I've never seen before. The waveglide section is particularly impressive.
Might there be a setting where one only sees the top or bottom half of the interface when in auv3 mode, like some other 4Pockets apps, like MultiTrack Recorder, De-EsserFX, Shimmer, or Analyser?
In Cubasis 3, the auv3 takes up only about 1/2 the horizontal space given, to show both vertical halves, & consequently the whole interface & controls are teeeensy, even when you’re mostly full-screening the app.
    Again! tremendous work on this!

Thanks for the kind comments, maybe I can add an option to Settings that allows this. It really depends if it is usable that way as most of the options in the lower half of the display relate to the top half.

@@PaultheMusicMan I understand. Maybe an idea would be to enable the scrolling functionality, so one could make changes within the lower control part & drag up to see the visualization upper part & vise versa. A scroll up/down option rather than picking one or the other, not unlike how MultiTrack Recorder functions?

@@itsbruxyall I will definately look into a solution, whether that be paging or scrolling. I am releasing a new version this side of Christmas so maybe I can get something in there.
NOTE: Just tried splitting into 2 halves as with previous apps and it works well. Expect this feature in the next version.

Since we can append samples, I was thinking of ways to allow multiple active WaveGlide's so that we can work on two parts of a sample at the same time. This is still in discussion and something I would love to see implemented in a future version.

Just bought Wavecloud, it’s the granular app I’ve been waiting for.
Last question I promise, can wavecloud be used as a auv3 live effect to play through?
Sorry if that’s asking too much from an already great sounding app.
It would cure my last itch to own a Texture Lab 😂.

i got me a copy of wave clouds yesterday and played around with it shortly. sound and functionality are great, as far as i can tell, but the interface is not ideal unfortunately. because of it’s nearly square shape a lot of space is wasted at the sides. even on my regular ipad the interface is getting rather small, when using it in aum with the keyboard open. using it on my iphone is simply impossible.
there should be some kind of zoom function, as there is on all the cherry audio plugins or at least a way to collapse parts of the interface or have a scrolling function, as there is on other 4pockets apps.
aside from that it would be good to have a pdf version of the manual.
what i really like about wave clouds is that you take a sample, place the playhead at any position and play that spot as a sustained sound. no looping needed. that’s similar to a wavetable synth, but way more flexible.

The next version due for release over the weekend solves this issue of size. I've added a new option in Settings which collapses the interface into 2 scrollable views. Look out for the Force Full Screen option in the next version. I must admit I thought twice about releasing the app for the iPhone because of this very issue, but I think this option will go a long way to resolving the problem. At least you as a user get to choose how you want it to work.
I will look at adding a link to the PDF manual in future versions.

thanks for the quick reply, i’m looking forward to the update!
as for the iPhone..i am not seriously using it to make music. on the other hand it’s also a bit of a shame that you have apps, that actually would run on it, but the display is just to tiny to even read the buttons. a simple pinch to zoom function would be enough, but of course i don’t know if ios allows that for app interfaces too.
