- Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview LSU vs. USC in their opening game of the 2024 college football season and share their predictions for the matchup at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Topics include:
- Southern Cal lost quarterback Caleb Williams, but the Trojans turn the reigns over to Miller Moss (who threw for 372 yards and six scores in the Holiday Bowl) and also added a terrific backup in young UNLV dual-threat quarterback Jayden Maiava.
- The Trojans add Mississippi State transfer Woody Marks and have dynamic playmaker Zachariah Branch in the slot but will need Kyron Hudson and Duce Robinson to step up production.
- USC has a mostly-new offensive line.
- LSU must replace Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, but Garrett Nussmeier looks like a good quarterback in the times we’ve seen him.
- The Tigers lost a pair of first-round receivers but still have Kyren Lacy, tight end Mason Taylor and a cast of others.
- LSU starts a pair of future NFL first-rounders in tackles Will Campbell and Emery Jones Jr.
- LSU also struggled on defense, but new coordinator Blake Baker has a history of defensive turnarounds with his last stop at Missouri.
- The Tigers have a star-studded linebacking corps of Harold Perkins, Greg Penn III and hybrid S/LB Major Burns.
- But LSU could be lacking its traditional talent in the defensive line and secondary.
- Southern Cal also needs a defensive improvement, and coach Lincoln Riley hired D’Anton Lyon, who turned around UCLA, with help.
- The Trojans have a couple of defensive linemen familiar to SEC fans in Bear Alexander (Georgia) and Nate Clifton (Vanderbilt).
- USC also brings in a largely-new starting defensive backfield with some transfer portal additions.
- The Trojans should have a special teams edge (where LSU has struggled) thanks to Branch and good returnees at punter and kicker.
- Our predictions at the end.

There's no jayden daniels coming back for lsu, so stop it guys. Not one lsu db can stay in front of USC's receiver corp. especially Zachariah Branch. USC's defense will be much improved under D'Anton Lynn. At the end of the day, USC has the better playcaller. USC wins in a great opening cfb season game! FTFO ✌🏾
Please enlighten me on who can stop the Army Corps of LSU WRs.. next MEN up so don’t underestimate them at all..
@@the_one9801 I won’t say they will stop them. They can but if they will that’s another story. 3 of the 4 starters in USC secondary weren’t on team last year yet it’s just assumed they will continue to be part of bad 2023 defense. I would feel slot less optimistic if USC had LSU secondary to defend them.
@@the_one9801you haven’t done enough research on SC dbs
I think both team's defense will be much improved - we played way below our talent level last season and we've upgraded to one of the best coaching staffs in the country, so which team will improve the most remains to be seen. And while we all have our horses, our biases and a more intimate knowledge of our particular team, I'll take our guy Nussmeier over anyone. There was a huge debate last season over whether or not he should have started over Daniels; he eventually gave way to the Heisman winner, but not before running off another 5* QB on the roster who knew he'd never beat him out. For everyone who's certain that Nuss isn't the real deal, just ask yourself this: what did you think about Daniels going into last season?
@@BangTheGavel1911 it’s okay, they will find out. Lynn’s scheme messes up QBs. Need them to keep doubting. Blake Baker going to have a fun night 😂
We have great receivers. Watch some film on Makai Lemon who you left out.
Don't tell them. Let them find out at gametime 😂
Your right !
Best wide receiver core in the nation. All of them can go yard at any time.
Three glaring mistakes these host made. They should do more research;
1) QB is not USC number 1 concern. Miller Moss ( also has spend a couple of years learning from QB ahead of him. Yet only LSU QB gets this credit) will be fine.
2)USC is all set on WRs. Branch, Lemon, Lane and Robinson will be fine. Look at the film in Bowl game.
3) USC defense will not be able handle the LSU speed! Biggest mistake. USC defense parcticed everyday against Branch and Lemon. Branch ran 10.4 secs in the 100M. Several reports has confirmed this from the current fall camp practices
so many biased statements. "USC doesnt have a go to guy at RB" but LSU does? they return 284 rush yards in production from last year. "USC hit the portal hard to revamp the secondary LSU can exploit that" yet no mention of LSU starting a true freshman and a sophomore at CB. surely USC cant exploit a true freshman CB?
Stamps is the only CB that's basically solidified. Stop listening to usc channels talking about stuff they don't know. LSU has Josh Williams and Caleb Jackson, are you going to get in from of him and stop a "sophomore." Sage Ryan will start over a true freshman so stop with the BS.
@@shea5287 Sage Ryan is listed currently as the starting strong safety. So it’s doubtful he’s going to start at cornerback. It’s all just projections from sites right now but currently they are projecting true freshman PJ woodland to be a starter.
Right. The hosts act like LSU will have all the answers to exploit a USC defense that will somehow be just as bad as last year even though there are personnel and coaching changes across the board, but USC will not be able to do the same to an LSU defense that didn’t do much at all to change personnel (mostly just by attrition) and just changed coaches. They also act like USC defense doesn’t see speed like theirs, even though the Trojans also have elite speed and length all across their Offense. This videos “analysis” is so one sided it’s laughable.
Fight on family. These people are from the SEC country. They will never do research on SC or say anything good about them
@@wejuggernautentertainmentl3156 what research they went 8&5 last yr with a heisman qb now all sudden you expect them go 10&2 or sumthing where’s the logic in that then not mention going new conference that don’t suits them well they will lose at least 4 games bro but at least that will better than last yr when they lost 5 games lol
SC will whoop some tiger asses!! ✌🏽
USC fan here. Nice video. From an SC fan’s perspective the defensive backs are the strongest unit. On offense the wide receivers is the strongest unit
SC here. I think you guys did a great job giving an unbiased take on both teams. Both are in a state of transition. Hoping for a great game !
Not sure how LSU corners will match up against Duece Robinson 6’6 and Jacoby Lane 6’4. Fight on! ✌️
@johnavalos4097, everybody is confident until the punches start flying.
@@donsspecialty3961 how did you like them apples 🍎 Fight on!
@@johnavalos4097 I didn't like them at all, but it's better to lose at the start of the season than late in the season. Props to USC, they refused to go down for the count. LSU had the but couldn't finish and we have to learn to put good teams away.
@@donsspecialty3961 Great game. I definitely was throwing things at TV in second half 😂😂Happy SC finally showed fight and did not fold and back down. Hope LSU makes some noise in SEC.
SoCal covers✌️
Usc has 4 #1 WRs 😂😂😂😂
Then why they lose so many games with a Heisman qb leading them?
@donsspecialty3961 they were all freshmen last year also caleb played out of lincoln rileys system for the most part always looking for the homerun play. He held on the ball far to long. Look at the difference from the regular season games to when miller played in the bowl game to those 4 freshmen receivers. 372 yards 6 tds
@@justindavidbray007 Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. You guys are making way too much of a big deal about Moss and your WRs. That's nothing new to LSU. Did you forget Lane Kiffin lives in the SEC West? IMHO, USC is likely a year or two away from being elite with your young players. Yall are putting waaayyy too much stock in beating a depleted Louisville team. Both teams had lots of opt outs, so it's fair to say your backups were better than their back ups, but we'll see what happens.
Moreover, In a very weird dynamic, our teams mirror each other so much it's frightening, but the intangible is we are a year ahead in experience, but nearly two years ahead on the OL. Thats why I believe LSU will take over the game late in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th quarter. Our running backs are bruisers and will punish what is otherwise an inexperienced USC DL.
Who knows, but that why we need to settle on the field.
@donsspecialty3961 Louisville wasn't depleted no one from thier defense sat out and they were a top 15 defense last year. Lsu defense was just as bad as scs last year and yall didn't do anything to make them better besides hire a new d coordinator that loves leaving his corners on an island. Also from why I've heard yall are having alot of breakdowns on defense in fall camp.
You say we are putting to much faith in millsr and our wrs but yall last your leading rusher who was your qb. My point is if you say we are putting faith in miller yall need to do the same with Garrett. It's going to be a hell of a game but it's not going to be as easy as you think. And trust me when I say our defense will be way better than you think it will be.
Yall do have a couple of studs at your tackle positions tho
Both teams replacing Heisman winners at QB…both teams coming off Terrible Defensive seasons and replacing defensive coaching staffs…both teams have good skill players. But LSU offensive line, as a unit, ranked top 5 by effectively all preseason publications and two publications have the O-line as #1 unit the country, including two projected first round tackles in the draft. I’ll take that O-line to tip the scales in LSU’s favor for the opener
"They didn't pick my team to win, so they are biased." - Trojans fans 🥴🥴🥴
They are doing a lot of crying lol
So far, the only comments I’m seeing from Trojan fans here are about the personnel that this video either got wrong or omitted. The hosts act like LSU is the only team with speed and that will be a problem as if USC doesn’t deal with it, but the reality is USC has plenty of that across the board on Offense as well. Heck, they couldn’t even get the new USC DC Lynn’s name right (called him Lyon). I don’t see any “so they are biased” comments about solely the win/loss predictions. Obviously we all are entitled to our opinions and if USC fans disagree, that doesn’t necessarily mean they think the video hosts are biased only for their prediction. But if the host and claim to be a source of information, they should do their research and get things right. Plenty of USC and B1G channels doing the same thing regarding LSU btw, so don’t think it’s only these guys. This game will probably be a close shootout with USC narrowly winning imo because both defenses will have trouble stopping the other teams elite offenses.
@@the_one9801I’m coming back to this statement ✌🏾

I wanna see how USC's young but BIG Wide Receivers JaKobi Lane (6'4") and Duce Robinson (6'6") match up with the LSU Secondary. 🤔
Who tf is D'Anton Lion? This is like me doing a breakdown of figure skating, which I know 0 about
DC from the NFL he was with the Baltimore Ravens and runs their style defense. He was with UCLA las year and they were a top 20 defense.

I don’t respect any analysis on West Coast football especially USC that comes from SEC country
Then why did you look at and/or comment on a video from the SEC analyzing a game that consists of a West Coast football team?
@@nickcarswell4272 stop asking tough questions 🤣
@@nickcarswell4272 because I can
I expect LSU to take over the game in the 4th quarter, IF, the defense can get off the field on key downs.
LSU defense improves by a greater margin then what the offense regresses. Tigers control LOS on BOTH sides the ball.
LSU leaves vegas with the W.
If LSU's o line shows up like I think they will i believe LSU will win by less than a touchdown. The defense just needs to not fall apart again and the offense will do enough to save them
USC will score, your hoping not more than LSU. Going to be a great GAME!
BEAT the Tigers. They will LOSE! ✌️
Lsu bias.!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Sc won by more 2 touchdowns are more.
Sc is deep! Lincoln finally has a defense.
Fight On ✌🏾🤣❤️ from Louisiana
LSU has the clear Advantage at wide receiver, offensive line, and linebacker. You could debate all of the other positions, but it's fair to say that collectively they are a wash. I will take arguably the best offensive line in the entire country and the win.
Give you both offensive and defensive lines and LBs.
Collectively who’s a wash?
@@Ellis_Hugh if you think LSU has the advantage at Wide Receiver, then you need to do some research pal. I’d suggest watching the Holiday bowl as an introduction to what USC will be bringing out vs LSU. The talent is young, but that ceiling is elite next to none. I’ll give you OL and LB though (just because of Perkins). However, USC won’t be slouches along the OL or LBs. But USC has the advantage at DB for sure. They have proven talent that will start across the secondary (from the transfer portal). You’re right though, the rest is pretty much a wash.
@@IronTrojan32 First thing I did to prep for the season was watch that Holiday Bowl, and you guys certainly have some (unproven) talent at WR, but if you're going to base your expectations moving forward on that bowl game, you're in for a rude awakening. You guys were playing against air out there. Take it from the current WRU, the school that just produced Jordan Jefferson, Jamar Chase and two more 1st round draft picks this past year (among others), the kids we currently have coming up are better than yours. Doesn't make yours bad by any means, but... trust me.
@@wejuggernautentertainmentl3156 QB, TE, RB, DL and Secondary. We could debate all of those positions, but objectively speaking, at this point, I'm willing to call it a wash.
lol LSU is going to throw 2 picks minimum. LSU is giving up 40+ points. LSU is going to underestimate USC defense.
Yes LSU Oline is the biggest edge
That OLine is going to punish that defensive front. We will absolutely control the TOP. LSU wins 42-28
@@ebensilas1 yes the Oline will be great but that offense will not be ready for the scheme. LSU DB is going to look worse than Louisville did.
Lol at your score prediction
@@BuzzinLiteYear you really think so ?
I’ll be at the game! Geaux Tigas
It's going to be a sad flight home.

Going to the game and the LSU tailgate at House of Blues! Vegas baby!!!
Yall are clearly lsu fans
This is a SEC channel. So bias will be brazenly clear. It's the equivalent of watching the SEC network and ESPN.
Lincoln is on hot seat .., unofficial status...,fight on. I'm
I hope we have a defense
LOL. Yet again, two pundits from the east have only written material to form opinions about USC, and demonstrate they are doing nothing more than guesswork. Unfortunately Brian Kelly knows better. Nonetheless, he will definitely have guesswork to do himself regarding Riley's 2024 offense. Riley showed nothing at all in the Spring game, and "hero ball" is gone. Moss showed what that can look like in the Holiday Bowl against #16 Louisville (372 yards, 6 TDs against 1 Int. [in the end zone]. Oh BTW, Makai Lemon is the go to WR, while Branch, Lane, and Robinson will be the "where did he come from?" receivers.
Yes, I hope all you "experts" keep it up. Yep, SC has "questions and problems". Yep, they don't belong in the B1G, even though SC holds a 75-30 record against the Big 10, yeah Nussmeier is better than Moss ; )...., yep keep up the good work guys.
Oh BTW, Bishop Gorman H.S., Las Vegas is a USC pipeline school. LV is not so "neutral" as you guys think.
This game is a toss up....
I HATE USC and can’t believe how stupid these guys sound. These guys clearly watch the SEC and google other teams
lol love how bias these idiots are I can’t wait to come see these pod cast after the game. I think it will be a close game. Two good programs both have something to prove at prime time on ABC
Hahaha but you're not biased!
Just come back and act like you helped the team if USC wins
@@shea5287 4 sure 😊😊
The biggest problem offensively for LSU is who gets how many snaps at WR? Yes, they are LOADED at WR, & at TE.
True freshman TE Tre’Dez Green is 6’7 245lbs & he is a FREAK! GEAUX TIGERS!😊
Don’t forget about Mason Taylor and Pimpton. The TE room is absolutely loaded
Is LSU really going to start a freshman at TE?
@@RidgeRider88 I never said anything about him starting, but at the same time, he's just too athleticly gifted to sit on the bench. I can definitely see some balls going his way.
BTW, USC's freshman TE, Walter Matthews is 6'7" and 250 with a 40" vertical. This is my point, folks have no idea what's up with USC. I truly hope the Tigers come in over-confident, but I don't see Kelly letting that happen. But fans will be fans.
@@RidgeRider88 LSU will not come in over confident at all but the O line will and I don’t see USC having an answer for 4 quarters for the relentless bullying they are about to endure. Doesn’t matter what you all do when the time of possession is not on your side because you can’t stop the run.
Get ready you rubbers! Tigers are coming to bust that asss! Go Tigers!😂
