Crucial listening for sufferers/& those recovering. After care for BPPV is essential for those whose brains need to reset with the 'new' original position/movement data.
I dealt with BPPV for almost a month, now I'm dealing with vestibular compensation, you just have to re-train your brain so you feel normal again. It has been a really tough time. What most people don't understand is that the dizziness is not what kills you, but it's the anxiety, the stress, the uncertainty, the fear and desperation of waking up everyday and just not feeling okay, seeing things as if you were "high" or drunk. I believe doctors added the "benign" part to its name just so people could relax a little bit. As of today, I'm still dealing with the anxiety and the "drunkness", but everyday I'm feeling a little bit better (with a lot of ups and downs). The secret is to move as much as you can, as one of the comments on this video pointed out, it's doing the things that make you dizzy the ones that will then later make you feel better. So to all going through this horrific experience: be strong, be patient, you will heal, just give it time.
@@hawaiidispenser Hey. Turns out it wasn’t BPPV, it was PPPD, which is a completely different thing. This was a very helpful presentation. I'm dealing with some sort of vestibular problem and the biggest takeaway I've learned is that what makes you dizzy is what will heal you! Vestibular rehab makes you feel dizzy and it's supposed to--it's really difficult to go home and want to do exercises that make you feel worse, but if you just stick to it with a positive attitude it will get better in time. Very informative video. I'm going through it and is extremely frustrating. No one would understand how bad it is. Sometimes you feel you are getting better, sometimes you feel worst and loose hope for a moment. is awful. Doing whatever I can. and yes, this is stressing me a lot and causing anxiety or increasing the one I already have. And the fears of not being able to function or work, drive, etc.
I am going through the same thing , and I agree it’s frustrating . After 3 months I was feeling better , woke up yesterday and was dizzy and unbalanced . And not many people really know how bad it is .. Good luck

Thapa Kishor I have Vestibular Neuritis which cause me to be continuously dizzy (a rocking sensation like being on a boat), Since doing Vestibular exercises twice a day, every day, the dizziness has improved greatly. My balance and blurry vision has also improved and the shaking sensation I feel inside me has decreased a lot to where I am feeling calm again. If you can't find a Vestibular Specialist in your area, you should ask "Vestibular Disorders Association" for help or find Vestibular exercises on UA-cam. When the vestibular exercises my physical therapist gave me were no longer challenging (increase my level of dizziness to retrain my brain), I found some good ones on UA-cam that have helped me a lot. I wish you the best in finding help and getting well.

Thank you for this video. It is such an invisible condition with multiple potential diagnoses and treatments. Whoever is unfortunate enough to suffer from it, feels isolated, desperate, depressed and powerless. I lost my balance completely after an acute episode of vertigo and vomiting that left me in a permanent state of "drunkenness" for almost a year. I had multiple diagnoses, I saw private and NHS doctors and they all brushed it off as having poor eyesight or them not wanting to investigate and try different treatments. All I was given was different medications that did not work. Thanks to VRT, I started to get better. I came across it after having tried other exercises to no avail. I know everybody is different but this is what really helped and 10 months into my condition, I was diagnosed with an acute inflammation of the ear canals and I'm still in treatment. However, I am myself again, I leave the house on my own, I'm confident, I feel strong. This is life changing and I wish I would have known about it instead of doing my own research and wasting a year of my life. Thanks again for giving vestibular conditions visibility.

As I was listening to this I now know what is causing my dizziness. I cannot lay on my left side or look up for long periods of time. I think I have cervicogenic dizziness, what you discussed at 17:00 in. What can I do to help myself or get help? I've had this for about a year now and it is ruining my life. Hello my daughter experiences chronic subjective dizziness which can be related to anxiety and depression. I read VRT could help with Chronic Subject Dizziness. What are your thoughts on this?
Alot of people assume it's anxiety causing dizziness,it's the dizziness causing anxiety. Yes do vestibular physical therapy, VOR exercises on UA-cam is number one exercises to recalibrate the vestibular system
I am highly grateful for your great presentation. I am 62 and just came to know that I have benign cranial meningioma and low bone density in lumbar 4,5 vertebra. Everywhere else good. Have little balance issues while walking. Just came to know about vestibular issues first time from my doctor for the first time. Please suggest any particular specialist in Sydney near Revesby.
I think it would be helpful to the speaker to ask if anybody has other issues that the speaker didn't cover. You might want to collect those issues from your patients if you don't ask for them to provide them to you. For instance, these are mine. 1. It would be helpful to know whether my problem is doe to my eyes, ears, or elsewhere (like the spine and, if so where in the spine, if possible. Actually, I think the word "spine" is itself inaccurate, which needs to be defined much better. 2. Social issues -- do you affirmatively tell someone you want to take out on a date, or a dating site, how do you handle that? I have become a hermit socially, but I don't want to embarrass myself and get turned down. Do people complain that they go out on a Match date and find someone has a vestibular problem and then call Match to complain. I have heard that doesn't happen as they want as many members as possible but perhaps they don't want to piss off their more normal clients. 3. Do you need to ask the thereapist what physical activities do you need to do for the rest of your life, like being able to stand on one foott easily without the symptom of falling down or puttting your second foot down. 4. Lots of people might have different additional items, but they might benefit to read what other people have added. Call me if you want to discuss these items with me. You can find me, I believe.
I have tinitus in my left ear would this be associated with BPPV or Labyrinthitis since this has lasted for a week in combination with a sinus infecton where I couldnt breathe thru my nose? I am mostly dizzy when walking in combination of moving my head
HI Aaron, Hearing and visual changes are common with vestibular disorders. Have you seen an audiologist to get vestibular testing? Contact us at info@vestibular.org for a healthcare referral in your area.
Also not mentioned is where a patient stands with respect to their vision, especially if any cataract procedure is due or even more extreme instancs where vision needs to be medically changed. It seems that is the most basic thing a patient can control but i have seen very big and prestigious hospitals not ask their pataints about their person issues that need to be attended to that can help solve their vestibular problems.
I was completely normal until last week when things went terribly wrong. Came on quick, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, dizziness. Car ride to ER was UNBELIEVABLE! WOW, nice to meet you vertigo!! Lol... After 7 days I can walk a little now. Can't drive my brand new truck. Oh, well! I will stay positive.

Very interesting video, but she is speaking so fast that sounds like she’s out of breath and that noise she makes is very distracting.
What exercises do you recommend for Disembarkation Syndrome?
this has been so interesting and useful thanks a lot!!
HI Baljit, Please contact us at info@vestibular.org or take a look at our provider listings at vestibular.org
Thank you for this
I think it would be helpful to the speaker to ask if anybody has other issues that the speaker didn't cover.
Slow down..talking too fast
Linda, Perhaps activating the closed captioning whiie you watch the video would help. It's at the bottom of the video screen.
Hi Chris-Did the doctors give you a diagnosis? You may want to visit an ENT or audiologist for vestibular testing. Call or email us for more information at 800-837-8428 or info@vestibular.org

My Doctor said I have a weakness in my inner ear. But gave me no help for future breakouts of vertigo. Will this therapy help?
Hello, I had the vestibular tests and was also told that my inner ear had a weakness, also known as vestibular damage. Yes, you doctor should have done the right thing and should have sent you for vestibular rehabilitation exercises. Did you see a neuro-otologist? They are the doctors who specialize in the inner ear. There are groups on Facebook that have many members going through the same problems. I hope you check it out. Look up vestibular disorders support on Facebook and ask to join the group. I hope you're feeling better.
I hope you're well by now and have a new helpful doctor.
EN ESPAÑOL, POR FAVOR...
yes
Great video
Will it help in vestibular migraine
Yes, it can help! I recommend reading our article on Vestibular Migraines and referring to the section Vestibular Rehabilitation (vestibular.org/article/diagnosis-treatment/types-of-vestibular-disorders/vestibular-migraine/). Please keep in mind each person’s response to VRT can be different.
@@VestibularVeDA thanx a lot

What a wonderful presentation. My first definitive attack was 6 weeks ago. My first dr ordered tests but, didn't give me any info. So, I changed drs mid-stream. I'm feeling good today. The 2nd dr., suggested VRT. I almost put it off and watched this. So much information I called the VRT group she recommended within 5 minutes!! Thank you for making this info public!
@Andree Vestibular Disorders Association thank you so much!!! I posted your video on Facebook. I think alot of people are suffering and don't know it.
En español lo tiene?
No, no tenemos una persona de servicio al cliente que hable español, pero tenemos un artículo que puede ayudarlo. vestibular.org/article/what-is-vestibular/desorden-vestibular-vertigo-en-espanol/
Does vrt work successfully for vestibular hypofunction in one ear? I want to live a normal life ! Im 16 :(
Me too man.. im 17 and life doesnt feel the same, always dizzy and it gives me bad anxiety
@@Mivic666 omg! Wow. So sorry you have this too. What's your treatment plan? I have 42% loss in my right inner ear. I'm literally housebound pretty much atm apart from appointments. They say vestibular therapy will get me better but I'm so scared to do it as I feel so bad. I'm so isolated and this illness is honestly one of the worse things ever!! I'm so scared I won't get better
@@zippycohen5496 im scared it wont work. But we are gonna have to try at least. I mean, considering we are young we have a good chance of our brains working around it. I have a 33% loss in my left inner ear. Im sorry, i couldnt imagine more than that. I hope yours goes well. Im pretty sure we both are gonna do the vestibular therapy for a bit
Getrov hi mate. How you feel now? Better or worse ? İ have %34 loss my left ear too. How can i fix this ?
@@castholder I've got 42% loss it's all about your brain creating new pathways to balance. This process is called compensation. What's your symtoms ? Keep walking; I walk with a walker as I'm too dizzy/unbalanced. Do vrt
