- In today's video come extreme clean with me in my kids rooms. I am giving both my girls a room refresh. My 9 year olds room was especially messy. lol They both wants new desks and LED lights, I added a few other things here and there. We had our first week of school and it was great to have everything cleaned, organized, and easy to get ready. The first room reset about took me out!! It was a long full dy of cleaning the room and throwing everything out and it did take a toll on me because it was an extreme mess but I got through it. Kids rooms can be daunting for many of us, sure if we have better routines and we simply clean for them it would be better but also our kids seeing us clean and how we clean does end up shaping them still. My teens room you see is not nearly as bad now that she has outgrown certain toys and play so I am confident my youngest will do the same. She is great at helping and knowing what to do, right down to cleaning surfaces but she hoards craft stuff and I can literally tell her everyday to clean but it never gets fully clean so eventually whats left behind ends up causing the disaster overtime.
So with school starting I said I would help one last time to clean a huge mess and I did after like 2 months of it being her responsibility. I don't expect to never help my kids again and for them to do it all alone perfectly just yet so Im happy to step in and reset things or show them how its done properly but I know they need times to handle things alone to and sometimes even if its not going well before I just fix it. So I hope this inspires and encourages you other caretakers to teach your kids routine or like me finally get in there and take care of business properly starting this school year! I do encourage you to bring the kids along by telling them what to do as you clean and organize so they can begin to understand the steps to take of how to handle cleaning an overwhelming space on their own but getting rid of stuff is the best remedy both for simplicity and times sake for yourself and them that they can handle. I wish you all the best of luck in these situations.lol

My daughter from middle school through high school would throw everything on her floor. Clean clothes, dirty clothes, trash, books, etc. I would just close her door. Usually once a month I couldn't stand it anymore. I would tell her a couple days before that we are cleaning your room top to bottom together. I would supervise her cleaning it and we would go through everything. She is now an adult. Has her own house, married with 4 children. She keeps her house very clean and picked up.

Maybe someone already commented - I didn't get through all the comments - but you can also do a kind of hanging net high up in the corner of the room and display the stuffed animals that way if you end up needing the closet shelf. It keeps them in one place, off the floor, and easy to simply toss in the net when done using.
This room looks like my 11 year old's room. Paper art supplies everywhere. Monsoon of paper and pencils. My back can't do it anymore though. Sending some love to your knees!
I was always cleaning my daughter's room with her and without her. She never really got the hang of it but I would always encourage her. .and I started teaching them when they were four to make their beds n pick up toys. The best they could. But one day my middle daughter just got up and cleaned her room just as spotless as I did. She got it at the age of 12. And her room always got so messy even after two days after I would clean it. She's been cleaning her room since then except when she's sick I do it then still
This is such a throwback video. Her room really wasnt that bad, it was just papers like you said. My daughter does the same thing. Shes always wanting to save a box for a craft and makes paper dolls. She just turned 9. Also, my son and daughter are exactly 2years and 2 weeks apart with august bdaym

Great job, Shawna. When you first went into Jordan's room my thought was, "where does she sleep", and then it was like deja vu. A couple of suggestions, if you have an area where she can do crafts, and projects, that is not in her room, and you can keep an eye on the mess to have her clean it up that would be a good idea to get all craft materials out of her room. The other thing is she needs to sleep in her bed. If her room is so unorganized/messy that she cannot access her bed then she needs to clean it before she goes to bed. You could try and make it part of her "bed time" routine" to clean up her room. Her room looks great. I love the "grown up" look Savannah's room is taking on. I think the word you are looking for with the vines is "swag" or "garland". Love the new Mickey Mouse throw.
Yes that was our plan. When I put their old desks in the office we are gonna set up a space to sit and paint and all my other stuff. Yes the garland of leaves we have. They still have to put those up, they finally aired out!.
You did a great job. You look like me climbing on everything to hang stuff up and dragging my little stool around. Lol.

I’m sorry I would not allow my kids to treat our home like this. That is her not respecting your home or her space. Her room was more than just a disaster! I hope she listens to you and doesn’t let it get like that again.
I also have a 9 year old daughter whose room looks like this. Glad it's not just her! We just moved her into a room with her 6 year old brother and so far she hasn't even gone back into her old room for anything. I'm about to go in there with trash bags and just toss everything lol
YES! Thank you for saying that! I felt like we were the only ones dealing with that with the little toys/items. The little things drive me crazy. You are so right about all the holidays and getting allll the little toys and items. We have three daughters and over the years the older two have basically passed down allll of their things to my littlest one so that they can still have it around, and while she LOVES having it, it's a nightmare of a mess. So, I need to get in my baby girl's room and declutter all the toys, and I'm not looking forward to it at all. I feel overwhelmed just thinking about it.
We put LED lights in our girls' rooms too, and I felt the same way lol. I still want some in our bedroom! It's such a vibe. I hope your foot feels better soon!

Yea I hurt my back the previous week and it’s healing up still. She has been picking up since I did this I said no tech if it gets this way again. Now that school is back in to, I have been popping up there to pick up small things if they are out to help keep things clean since they are not home.

My youngest granddaughter doesn’t like to clean her room either. Mom is my daughter and she doesn’t like to shout at her because she’s on medication for anxiety. You always do a great job cleaning. Room look great.
Thank you! It’s hard and sometimes as you said it’s easier to not push but eventually it needs done. I admit they don’t always do things the first time but it’s still their job and they know a worse tone is to follow. The lights are so fun.

Girl my heart goes out to you. Both of my kids are grown and out on their own now but when they were little I remember this happening quite often. For me the worst part was my daughter would have sleep overs and when everyone went home I would go in her room and they would have all the board games dump and all the Barbies and asserious mixed in. It was a nightmare. But as always mom cleaned it up.😅❤
Yes! I haven’t been the best teacher with play and put away. Especially when guests come over I like them to have a great time. We are just about out of the toy years and I knew it would last forever so I have cleaned it up also. My teen has a bin of toys for keepsake but doesn’t pull them out so I can see the other side now ya know lol 🩷🩷

It was absolutely because of that! Im so thankful it was down to the carpeted area. I need a system for stairs. It’s the biggest safety issue I have. I love that ours are only a few per level. Public stairs are very unsettling for me. 🩷

Why get them new desks if they’re just going to mess them up ?
They both decided to try and keep them nice that’s why they asked for new but mainly I needed desks for the office for myself so I figured I would just use theirs and buy them new. It was cheaper that way and the office ones may get ruined with crafts anyway.

What about those little carts with drawers for craft supplies and only do crafts in kitchen. Where she will clean it after
we have those type of old curtain rods in our house. What I did was get blackout drape panels and used shower hooks to attach to that type of curtain rod
I thought about taking it down it’s only a couple screws and I could put a new rod up but I didn’t want to find the right curtain size lol so I put this back up which came in the house and she didn’t mind it. In the future I will change out the rod we have a very nice gold one like this in the living room and I like it as an ac went but I don’t have curtains up. The shower hook hack sounds like a great idea!
You might consider getting a bulletin board made out of cork to hang pictures with push pins. I did that for each of my kids. $10 from Wal-Mart.
SHEIN has great LED lights! That’s where I got all mine from. And they have an app so you can control all the lights in your home from your phone. And they are SUPER inexpensive.

I have furniture in my house that I bought when I was 24 and now I am almost 52. It works fine for me. The only thing I did around 8 years ago was to paint it white. My mom never cleaned up my bedroom that I shared with my younger sister. When it became a mess she simply closed the door. 😅 But we never made such a disaster as your youngest. And I know for sure that we were not allowed to sleep somewhere else in the house, because of the mess. We simply had to clean up our bed for the night. Irma from the Netherlands
Furniture was definitely made well then. Our master bed is similar. We will have it for so many years to come. It’s not her bed being messy she just didn’t sleep in. There much anyway she is a couch sleeper. But with success she did sleep in her room with the new lights! I was happy. 🩷

When I was growing up my parents made it mandatory that my brother and I had to clean up our own room. They used it as a form of punishment until I started keeping my room clean and there was nothing to be cleaned. Only dirty laundry had to be done. I only had one child that did this to their room and I had to stay on. She hated cleaning her room but I told her I hated cleaning her room also.
I wish I could have been more stern. It when I was working outside the house I wasn’t the greatest at keeping up with everything so I always felt horrible yelling for them to clean when my own room and home wasn’t picked up lol but we have all got better and as they grow out of stuff it gets better each year. There is times her room is this way and she will clean for 2 hours but she doesn’t know what to do with this. It’s easier for me to throw it out and her not decide ya know because it’s just papers she made and stuff. My ultimate goal is for them to have laundry chores but for now I just have them putting their clothes away. They are growing up so quick. At their age they won’t even have toys soon at all and I’m hoping crafts get moved to the office once I set up the tables next week.
@@MomLikely suggestion. Like anything else as a parent you teach them by showing them. Take your precious child into her room and get some together time. Showing her how to clean. Show or teach her how to purge the things that either trash or unwanted. I believe in you Mom Likely! You’re an awesome mom and cleaner. Train your babies how to be a productive adult even on the days you feel like crap. Keep up the great work Mom Likely. You’ve got this!

My son draw as well and anytime I go in the room and see a paper on the floor, I take away his phone. And I do room check once per week, cause my son likes to draw and have paper on his desk. I think 2 months is a lil too long to check on her room.
It used to be 3 weeks but as they have gotten older over the last 5 years I push it back. This is the first time at 2 months because she was doing well. End of summer crafts, visits, and play got the best of the space . She watched the video though and I showed her how crazy it was. lol she said I’m gonna clean those papers now. All week she has been putting her things away after play. 🥳
@MomLikely lol my younger son draw alot and will have paper all over his room, so I watch him closely, because if I don't hell broke loose 😅. U did an amazing Job solving the issue.

One year I had got my son 5 new pairs of pants for school and two weeks later I had to buy more because he shot up 3 inches.He come out one morning and I was like why are your pants so short.Thank goodness he had a younger cousin to pass them down to.
I do miss saving clothes to pass down. They have gotten so recked lately. Winter they usually grow around here. My oldest is probably just about done getting tall soon. I know her size can change and shoes but another year or 2 she probably won’t get taller.

You start them early, put your toys away, out your plate in the kitchen,etc. Its too late once they’re in their teen years. They(most of them)will be doing this as an adult, because they were not taught as a child. I know people who have mental health issues that live like this. And I’ll just leave it at that. She shouldn’t have to clean up after people if they are old enough to help. I would get professional organization help from people that do this and I would get a therapist to help me. No hate. 🙌🏽
