Step one is find a piece of foam that is the right thickness for the container you're going to put it in step two is cut it to size so it fits in the container
Cool. I have 5 Verniers and a couple of Micrometers lined up for a Custom Built case. They all have their own individual cases as per when they were purchased but be good to have them in one custom case. Plus I can use the original cutouts from seperate cases for templates
Thank you for this. I bought Kaizen foam for all of my Husky workbench drawers, and i was wondering how to cut this. I saw videos where shops were using lazer machines, and im like, dude.... im a DIYer and have my all my stuff in a basement man lol.😅 i dont have a fancy lazer machine.
Is the foam you are using the one that is considered the Charcoal Regular Foam or the Charcoal Firm Foam? Also, have you tried cutting with hot wire? Just curious if it will cut that kind of foam.
The foam in this video is EPE foam which is a medium density closed cell foam. EVA is a high density closed cell foam. We haven't tried using a hot wire but I've heard people saying it doesn't cut very cleanly with a hot wire.
Hi Jehan, the foam is a multi layer foam so you make the cut around the outside of your item, you can peel out the layers of foam for your desired depth.
I never found a knife to work at all. Right now I'm looking for a hot wire machine. I have thought of making aluminum forms that look just like my tools and heating them and pressing them into the foam.
There are a few different ways to cut holes in foam. Cut it out by hand with a small blade, use a sharp copper pipe to press down and cut the foam or use a hole saw with a drill. You might be able to search for other videos to show you this process a bit better!
Diced / Cubed / Pick'n'Pluck foam is a low cost option that doesn't require any tools to customise. www.vfmgroup.com.au/4004-diced-foam-insert-for-waterproof-long-case
Fastcap? *quick UA-cam search* ah ok. Yeah they've got some great foam how-to videos. Plenty of room for everyone to share their own take on creating custom foam inserts.

I understand cutting around the outline, but how to you cut under the foam for an even surface?

haha great! do you know how you would cut through a large piece of foam tho - I have a large foam block and i want to cut a cylinder from it?
depends on the density of foam but try this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/xne0qjhFVNY/v-deo.html
@@TitanAV tysm! this helped, i was thinking of attaching a piece of wire to a soldering iron to cut the foam - would that produce a cleaner cut?
@@am-hm4oz We find cutting EPE foam produces clean cuts with a knife however you could use a hot wire cutter.
@@TitanAV ah ok thank you!
Try laser engraver machine glow forge or cheaper k40 Chinese one
