ive got that stove its tiny but its brutally powerful for its size but if your using any bigger than 750ml mug its bad for hotspots i wouldn't try using a frying pan (again) lol its fine for boiling water for dehydrating meals and coffees but that's really all 👍🏻and wind shield is a must i just cut up a monster can and keep it in the the mug for a shield i love mine but i tend to use my msr pocket rocket2 and carry the fire maple as a spare

With care you can cook with it, I managed to cook porridge keep stirring with heat low with Toaks 700mls 115mm. However it was such a faff to cook with I swapped to it's bigger brother the FMS-116T, weighs the same but wider burner head and I moved to a 900ml wide pot (Toaks 900 130ml). I've yet to use FMS-116T in anger only done home test cooks, but I also got the FMS-117T (remote) adds about 34g (weighs 63g more but you don't need a 29g canister stabiliser) but lower / stable / easier to wind protect but even larger to pack. He reviewed the FMS-117T bigger brother the Blade 2 before.

@@GeekfromYorkshire ive got a fue different stoves but i honestly can't fault the msr pr2 its not much bigger than the fire maple hornet or what you want to refer to it as the msr actually fits in the little fire maple pouch 🤷🏻‍♂️ and is a very fuel efficient stove so i just stick with that most of the time

@@neemancallender9092 not a bad idea but seems like more stuff to carry so kinda defeats the whole ultralight purpose even tho it probably weighs next to nothing right enough just easier to take a do it all stove like the msr but if your only boiling water the fire maple is absolutely perfect 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great video Andy, I came here looking for this because I just saw your video in a Fire-Maple sponsored ad on FB, it looks like it’s almost as small as the BRS stove! Good stuff!

I used a similar BRS3000 for my first stove. Does the job, lightweight, and inexpensive. I since moved on to a Soto Windmaster.

Thanks for giving me a headsup on the Fire Maple stove. I bought a Toaks 750ml pot and my MSR Pocket Rocket doesn't fit inside with a fuel canister. Amazon has it being delivered the day before my section hike on the AT this weekend.

If you've watched gearskeptic's video on cooking fuel used and timing, it strongly points to wider pots (with lids) for lower fuel use / faster. The Toaks 750ml pot is 103g, the wider Toaks 700ml pan is 90g or the Toaks 900ml D130 is 104g, while I know you can't drink direct from a wide pot you can either pour into a collapsible mug or (what I do) is nest the 550ml D103 inside the 700 D115 or the 550 D118 inside the 900 D130. The nesting is a good idea for the wider pots as they bend easier so nesting gives it's strength.

Personally I use the new OEX jet boil system HOWEVER this is something I will pick up, just to keep in my sack as a backup.
    Great review buddy.
Just a side note to let you know this is the second time I've had to subscribe to your channel don't know what's going on but for some strange reason I was unsubscribed don't know if it's a problem or on your channel or a my channel but I thought I'd let you know.

I carry the BRS3000T as backup, 26.2g vs 43.1g and about half the packed size. I don't trust BRS3000T as primary, too many reports of it failing.

The Fire Maple FMS-300T in UK is also the Alpkit Kraku, weighs 46g. There is also the FMS-116T weighs exactly the same, cost the same, with a wider burn head so suits wider pots such as for cooking, and packs larger so not a "one pot pack" candidate.
This "Hornet" FMS-300T has a successor the Hornet II which packs even bigger.
I have the Alpkit Kraku (FMS-300T) 46g , BRS-3000T 26g, FMS-116T 46g and the FMS-117T (Ti remote stove 106g). I carry the BRS-3000T as a backup for trips where cooking is more important.
Some good combinations like this FMS-300T with the Toaks 650ml with 100g canister fit together in the Toaks stuffsack.
It would be advisable to keep the stove in the cup with a few other cooking items (spork, lighter, etc) just to protect the stove from damage. I usually stuff something soft in their too like some teabags to pad it out, and then a rubber band around to keep lid on. I know there's a lot who put their canister inside their mug but canisters are so sturdy you're better off putting something else which wouldn't like being thumped in the mug to protect it and to reduce chance the mug gets bent.

The Fire Maple FMS-116t is far superior
The flame spread and the simmer control makes an excellent cooking stove

    • @GeekfromYorkshire
      @GeekfromYorkshire Рік тому

@@neemancallender9092 I agree. However if packed volume isn't as critical, then the canister top FMS-116T 46g plus a canister stabiliser 29g (total 72g) is only 34g less than the FMS-117T remote stove for even more stability. If you are cooking real food you're still stirring a fair bit and that's easier with a lower setup.
Obvious downside is bigger packed size and a little more weight of the remote FMS-117T over the FMS-116t (aka Alkpit Kraku) so depends on your cooking intentions.
The 117T sits midway between the 116T and the Blade 2 in weight and cost. And the Blade 2 is one of the worst value as for 11g you can get the all-steel 118A. So stand-out products is the 116T (weight, flame) 117T (weight, flame, remote) and the 118A (winter pre-heat tube).
Obviously you'd pair a wide flame like the 116T with a narrow pot as the flame would be licking up the sides more and waste fuel, but if goes really well with a wide pot such as the Toaks 900 130ml

Cool review. I’ve recently got BRS 3000 was about £16 and it’s about 27g. I was really impressed and I use it with toaks 750 for longer trips. But I still love my jet boil for its sturdiness and the gas lasts longer 😀

I have both too, but for the style of cooking I do, Jetboil saves 5.5g/day fuel. I know as i took trips and weighed canister before/after for both setups. My Jetboil is 342g full kit or more realistically 307g minus pot stand, vs say a Toaks 900ml + FMS-117T 239g remote stove, so a Jetboil takes more than 12 days to "pay" it's weight cost in fuel savings, and arguably a 900ml wider pot is more useful, and I can simmer with a remote stove. So even though the Jetboil claims to be for backpackers its more of a car camping answer stow in boot with some food+water+blanket for winter emergency or summer picnic. My Jetboil is the Sol Ti from 2012, no longer made. The weight savings I take back by nesting a 550ml cup in the pot for a 2-pot setup of 303g, so I gain a pot for same weight as Jetboil.

I've got one of these they're great. I chose this over the BRS, because it has a little lip around the top of the stove, which helps a little in the wind

Say this FMS-300T (aka Alpkit Kraku) 43g + 650 Toaks 72g + stabiliser 29g = 144g, so 80g heavier for a more flexible setup where you can use a windshield. It's amazing we have such good lightweight low cost options these days.

@@BackpackingUK I'd take it as a compliment, you drove their sales up.
Thanks for your videos they show clearly how these things look and function. I have the FMS-300T (aka Alplit Kraku), 116T, 117T for when space / performance / flexibility matters most respectively and the BRS-3000T as a backup. I don't have the Blade 2 (aka Alpkit Koro) you reviewed earlier as for those situations it's so cold the pre-heat tube is needed I do Trangia cooking with the remote pre-heat-tube conversion, as when it's so cold I'm cooking inside my tent and Trangia is most stable.
