Had the Fire Maple for quite some time. It is a very reliable alternative to the Jetboil. I keep the FM in my vehicle for truck camping and day trips. I still like my Jetboil MicroMo but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the FM.
Great video Mark, I definitely like some of the more versatility of the X2. Not only does it come with the canister stand, but I like the included universal pot stand/ring to use with a fry pan etc. Cheers my friend.
Mark, after watching your video of the Polaris remote canister stove I bought one as well as a Firemaple bushpot. I’ve been using both quite a bit lately and performance is top notch. The regulator on the stove is quite good, I was out yesterday in sub freezing temps and did not realize my gas canister was near empty. I still was able to get a good regulated flame to make some coffee and cook a stew that took about 15 minutes to simmer. Near the end I did have to warm the gas can with my hands, as it froze to the rock it was sitting on, but the stove continued to run. I prefer a separate stove and pot in case I decide to cook over fire, but these systems intrigue me. Never used one but may try someday.
Hello Mark and thanks for the video review. I am a big fan of heat exchangers on a cook pot especially for alcohol stoves. Check out the "Sterno Inferno" and swap out the sterno fuel for a small alcohol stove and throw away the plastic because it will melt. I found this system incredibly efficient for alcohol which makes it more viable for an extended trip,
It would be useful to have a comparison between these systems and the JetBoil systems. I have the JetBoil MiniMo and enjoy being able to use a regular pan or pot on top. I wonder which system is more compact and lighter yet delivers the most features.
G'day Mark, dig the X2 in particular, (with the pot/pan stand and proper locking handle), worth the extra dough IMO, but it really is fantastic they offer several choices. With its own feet on the ground, I wonder if its possible to use a hose with an elbow fitting at the burner end on the X2, to run a canister remotely ? That'd address stability and you could also change over the canister without disturbing the burner and whatever is on top, i.e. half way through a cook. and at the same time, nor would you have a potentially hot burner housing to contend with. Oh yeah, + you could then employ the upside down canister trick. Cheers Duke.
Just off topic here Mark. 2 years ago I sent you a giant alcohol stove direct from aliexpress. Just wanted to know your thoughts on it. I use mine all the time as it definitely has alot of btu power. Just your opinion sir.
Hi Chris. First, thank you again for gifting me the stove. I did try it for a bit but could not get into it at the time. I think I will get it out and give it another go before finalizing my thoughts on it
Both JetBoil and Fire Maple stoves are made in China, aren't they? If so, a direct comparison of similar stoves from each company would be in order, I would think. Is anyone making a pressurized gas stove on this continent currently?
I am not aware of any locally made systems. I would very much like to compare these systems with a Jet Boil, or MSR or other brands and will if I can get a hold of them. Thanks for commenting
Hello Mark. Have you found out what the sleeve on the Fixed Star X1 is used for? I have that on mine and don’t know how to use it. Surly there is a reason for it. Blessings, David.
@@MarkYoungBushcraft I guess that makes sense. I don’t think I will use it that way but it’s nice to have that option. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Couldn't agree more about the bulkiness! These seem suitable for car camping - not so much for hiking. Personally I can't imagine ever needing such a ridiculous contraption 😂
Yeah, it has the neoprene sleeve, so it doesn't need the handle. What is the function of all that plastic on the burner part. They are a bit too big. All you need to boil at one go is 350ml, 800ml capacity is more than enough.
Thank you for the video. I returned the X1 and ordered the X2. I like the upgrades and worth the extra cost.
The X2 is a great stove. Thanks for commenting

Great story for the Polaris. These systems are simple, compact and effective. Thanks for commenting

I would love to own the Sterno Inferno but it appears to be gone out of production. Thanks for commenting
Great video Mark! I have the x2 and no problems or regrets.

Great Demo On Both, Thanks For This Mark, We Use & Love Our Fire Maple X 2 ! ATB T God Bless

I would love to make that comparison if I can get a JetBoil to do it with. Thanks for commenting
Firemaple should sell the x2 frypan burner setup individually, and in a remote canister setup. I think it would be a good stove. ✌️🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️
Cool idea. I will pass it on. Thanks for commenting
I have a Jetboil Mini-mo. I got it when it first came out and it was $99. I love it, but DAMN they want $164 for those dudes now!!
You got one at a good time. Thanks for commenting

So, without giving away to much, your dream system is in the works by Fire Maple. Hope to be able to say more soon. Thanks for commenting Duke

Can you fit an 8oz gas canister in the X2 & Polaris with all of their included parts?
No in the X2, yes in the Polaris. Thanks for commenting
I have an 8.9oz canister in my X2 with no issues.
Does the 8 ounce gas canister fit into the x2 ?
Cheers.
Yes, it does. Thanks for commenting

I did a brief research into JetBoil and discovered that they are made in the USA, in New Hampshire, if I remember correctly.
I just would have liked to see them made in USA vs China.
Understood. Doubt they could keep the price though. Thanks for commenting
Thanks Mark

Turns out, it is designed for spoons or other items as I had suggested.

Which did you end up getting?

Seems bulky and over-designed to me.
Actually, quite compact. They compare well with name brands versions. Bit limited in scope as they are mostly for boiling water. Thanks for commenting
