Why Did the Empire Lie about Coruscant's Population?

Coruscant is the most populated planet in the galaxy, according to government estimates it's population is close to 1-3 trillion living beings. We did a quick calculation and found that this number was completely off and Coruscant's true population was much higher by many magnitudes.
