What's the difference between dimethicone and silicone when making cells? Is one better than the other, or are they basically interchangeable? Awesome video as always!
I always thought that I would not ever use Floetrol as it seemed excessively wasteful. Knowing that there is the potential for 3-4 dyed discs out of one bed may make me rethink my position. I am curious, how would Floetrol effect coloured discs? Would it be the same as a glue bed?
It's also cheaper than glue in my area right now. Michael's is always out and I've switched to using Colorations brand. I found Floetrol for $14 at Loews
It's definitely worth grabbing a bottle and giving a few a try, sooo many cool designs you can make with Floetrol. In my experience it effects colored plastic the same as glue beds to comparatively.
Sure do bud, that was one of my early favorites. Here's a link to the video if you were trying to find it: ua-cam.com/video/_ts_SqpZTeU/v-deo.html Good luck in the giveaway bro!
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt never thought I’d give my guy a thumbs down. Totally tongue-in-cheek. I got your answer to someone else’s question. You are the best for answering everyone. All good bud, the TDIDI army helped out.
I have a question bobby.. do you remember years back a wolverine disc dye u did? I believe it was a yellow disc with like glow in the dark dye behind wolverine..
It all depends on if I'm using heat or not Luis. With heat a couple hours will get the job done, without I'd probably let it sit for 12-24 on Big Z plastic.
I see some other people use silicone oil on the base colors and not on the top pullover layer. Is there a big difference in results between the two procedures and will it look different if all colors had silicone oil?
Doug's method here hits every time, but I've seen it done a number of different ways with successful results. No real rules in this game other than Keep Doing It and awesome discs will start happening. My advice is to whip up a few beds that you have no intentions of dropping a disc in and just play with the medium for a bit. Try different mixes, let the beds sit for different times, some heat some no heat. You'll get a feel for your favorite in time.
Bobby you be quiet!
I love those Loft discs. Seriously gorgeous work here. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and the stoke!
My man Doug is a rock star! So glad it hit you're good button bud. Go make something awesome!

Third bed looks awesome without the pull…💪🏻 could you not just drop the disc in directly?
Right there with you Peter, seemed like each bed was getting cooler as he went. You can always just drop one in if you're digging how it looks.
Yeah!
Well said!
I just did my first flo dyes couple days ago now I know what I did wrong lol
It's always something little... Stoked to see what you whip up from here fry!

What's the difference between dimethicone and silicone when making cells? Is one better than the other, or are they basically interchangeable? Awesome video as always!
Short answer is dimethicone is a bit more viscous and makes for bigger cells usually.

@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt, @jason franks.
1 gal Floetrol $.99 @ Ollie's! OMG
Great video! What factors affect cell size? Say if you want larger cells, would more silicone be better? Or adding it to the colors?
Less is more! Stir as little as possible too
I'll second that notion...
Looking on Amazon now for liquid silicone. Is it silicone pouring oil I need? What is the difference with dimethicone?
Yes pouring oil. Or any dimethicone / silicone oil. It's all comparable. One bottle will last you forever.
Dimethicone is much thicker and more viscous

What silicone was it he used?! That’s the biggest piece of info I need!
I use pure silicone pouring oil, he's also using dimethicone in parts.

just dropped a Big z plastic in the bed, how long should i leave it in there for? i saw that it should be 1-2hrs but still not too sure

Do you do anything to the areas of the bed the disc doesn’t cover while under the lamp? Does it not “dry” or overheat the uncovered portion?
No worries about the uncovered portions. They do get a little skin on top, but it all washes away just the same.
Curious if the alcohol he is adding is regular rubbing alcohol or denatured?
Pretty sure it's denatured.
Hey, love the video and other dying content. I am left with a question, what alcohol is he using when he mixes his dye?
Thanks Shawn, glad you could dig it. Pretty sure it's acetone, but denatured alcohol will work as well.
I’m using denatured alcohol in this video
I didn't have any cling or siran wrap so i used wax papper, and like using it better. Anyone else try wax paper?
Great idea Renee! Haven't tried it...yet.
