This is a spectacular tutorial. I cannot believe that Blood Feather Dyes took the time to share this with us. My proverbial hat is tipped in your direction Bobby.
Dude you are the best in class. I don't know how you don't have more viewers and subscribers. Can't wait to watch more of this positively. I am just getting into disc dyeing.
Really appreciate that Andrew! Jayson did most of the heavy lifting on this one, glad to hear you're picking up what we're putting down either way. Don't be afraid to reach out if you have questions as you start on you disc dyeing journey, always happy to help out where we can. Enjoy the binge bud!
That was awesome been wondering how people been do those designs I've learned a lot but did my first stincel today steal your face now you show me this stuff o boy here we go again
I tried this technique with the qtip....no go !!! Thanks Jason for showing me the way...just got a new Watt totally grey....what to do??? I found this on Bobby's channel and wow....I am inspired...just put 30 mins or less into making the grey disc ready for some character with a little black line action.....the glue is drying and i can see my patterns...i tried the spider web center but did not go the way I tried....it's actually cool....looks like a caterpillar spiral !
The dye is good to go right away after it's applied. You can always give it a soapy cold water rinsing right after applying it to wash any residual off the surface, but that's not what's happening here. What's drying overnight with that first layer is the glue. Then the next day, after applying more dye over the dried glue mask the glue is all rinsed right off. Hope that helps clear it up. Don't be afraid to shoot me a DM if you still have questions.
All good, sorry for being a little late on the response too. He's using dye (not paint), specifically poly dyes that will penetrate the plastic. iDye Poly, Spike-It Worm Dip, and Pro Chemical & Dye are probably the most popular.
That's awesome, you're in the right place then Opal. There are a few different options for dyes that come in powder form or premixed. He's mostly using Pro Chemical & Dye mixed with acetone here. We have a video breaking down all of the dyes and dye mixes here: ua-cam.com/video/Sf5174Z9ahE/v-deo.html if you want to check it out.
Just a soapy cold water rinse to get any residual dye that might still be on the surface off. Otherwise, it's part of the plastic as soon as you're done and set to jet.
So I have some experience in these types of dyes. However, where I struggle is getting the dye to hit all spots between the glue. I use a q-tip but it seems I get a more spotty result. Any advice? Love the work you do!
Hey now John! Best advice I have is pretty straight forward, more coats with more dye in the q-tip. For what it's worth, I've found that all q-tips aren't equal. Might try experimenting with different brands and shapes as well. Good luck bud!
No dumb questions around here T-Rex. I use an old Technics turntable I tinkered back into a second life. If you're looking for a new one, a direct drive motor (vs belt driven) works better for our purposes. Best places I've found to dig one up have been Craigslist or FB Marketplace. Hope that helps bud!
In this one he's primarily using ProChemical & Dye mixed with some acetone, but really any of the other Poly Dyes (like iDye Poly or Worm Dip) will work as well.
He says that he washes the dried glue off the disc . . . is that a water thing? is he peeling dried glue. What is best method for removing dried glue from disc?

Straight Boom town. Love the glue spin dyes. I'm so going to whip one of these bad boys up.
Straight Boomtown indeed Jason! Glad you could dig it bro, stoked to see what you whip up.
Love the explanation of using colors!
Couldn't agree more!
It’s all the amazing of lowrider culture and steeze! Fantastic style!
Nailed it Jeremy, definite lowrider vibe!

Caterpillar spiral sounds like a pretty dope accident!
Hey now!!!! Bobby back!!
Oh yeah color theory! This dude is awesome
Total Dude!
Another killer video my man
Thanks Vince, glad you could dig it! Jayson did all the heavy lifting on this one.
Awesome video. Gotta go do it!
Thanks Jeff, go on and get it!
Very cool. He makes it look so easy 🙂
He definitely has some skills! ...it's almost as easy as he makes it look though.
Hi, thank you for the awesome video. I was wondering what do you have your dye mixed with? Is it Acetone or Alcohol?
Great work!
Oh I NEEDED this one
Go on and get it Ben!
Let the first layer of dye dry overnight but rinse off the second right away???

Oops. My bad. No more smoking my medicine before noon.
Did you mention what kind of dye you are using? Mix ratio?
Pretty sure he's using Pro Chemical & Dye mixed with some acetone. My ratio is about 1/4 tsp of powder to 4 oz of acetone. Hope that helps bud!
Yo a lil' late to the party but a rookie question, what is the "paint" its some sort of dye mixed with, denatured alcohol (?) or what?
All good, sorry for being a little late on the response too. He's using dye (not paint), specifically poly dyes that will penetrate the plastic. iDye Poly, Spike-It Worm Dip, and Pro Chemical & Dye are probably the most popular.
what type of dye is he using?
Mostly Pro Chemical & Dye mixed with some acetone, but iDye Poly or Worm Dip will get the job done as well.
Wow I’m so inspired to try this. What are you using to make your dyes or are they straight from the packaging?
That's awesome, you're in the right place then Opal. There are a few different options for dyes that come in powder form or premixed. He's mostly using Pro Chemical & Dye mixed with acetone here. We have a video breaking down all of the dyes and dye mixes here: ua-cam.com/video/Sf5174Z9ahE/v-deo.html if you want to check it out.
Do you do any wiping or "curing" of the disc after you're done to prevent bleed or transfer?
Just a soapy cold water rinse to get any residual dye that might still be on the surface off. Otherwise, it's part of the plastic as soon as you're done and set to jet.

May be a dumb question but what turntable do you all use? I have a record player but getting that thing to center discs is horrible.

If you're looking for a new one, a direct drive motor (vs belt driven) works better for our purposes. Best places I've found to dig one up have been Craigslist or FB Marketplace. Hope that helps bud!
Can I ask what dye your using?
In this one he's primarily using ProChemical & Dye mixed with some acetone, but really any of the other Poly Dyes (like iDye Poly or Worm Dip) will work as well.
He says that he washes the dried glue off the disc . . . is that a water thing? is he peeling dried glue. What is best method for removing dried glue from disc?
Either or really, just as long as you get all of the glue off before moving on to the next stage. Warm water and a sponge has worked best for me.
Super cool video. What is the rotating speed what you use when you do that kind of "spikes" ?
I do pretty much everything but the swirls at the top speed.
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt Thank you !
Reminds me of the ol' spirograph kits. Hey...💡
Good call!
I'm confused about this process. it looks like you are painting the disc. Not dyeing it??
They can look pretty much the same I guess. It's all dye (and glue) being used here though, just being applied in similar ways as painting.
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt Where's the glue?
@@TheDifferenceisDoingIt OH, so the glue is used as a mask. Not to suspend the dye in. ah.
@@davelopez9161 you got it.
I was just thinking about dipping my toes into spin dyeing
It's time B, go on and get it!
