- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Dan Douthart demonstrates the way he turns finials and icicles for his Christmas ornaments. In his process, he maintains contact with the icicle with a live center in the tail stock and turns to the flame point. The last steps involve backing off the pressure from the tail stock and cutting the flame point free.

From a Gwinnett Native,I love watching these videos of you folks making these things. I'll take what I'm learning from ya'll,and adding it to my list of things to try on my Mini Lathe. And i have a scroll saw to get practice on as well.
As a novice turner i aopreciate the detailed instruction about proportions as well as the camera work. Is always a bonus when you can follow the direction the chisel is held/turned. Thank you all.
Thank you! The camera operator has a tough job of getting in close for better detail but bot getting in the way of the in room audience.
I agree, great job showing all the steps in a detailed video of the turnings. Also, thanks for sending me the document on making this ornament. I have succeeded with my prototype, now I just need to refine it according to the steps you just layed out.
Dan - excellent instruction as always...... enjoyed it. Merry Christmas!
+Doug Korn Thanks Doug.
Excellent demo, Dan. Good tips.
+Mike Peace Thanks Mike.
Wow! Ever ince I searched for Hyezmar’s Woodworking Bible on Google I got into this amazing craft more and more, I’m on my third project now and it’s been a great journey :)
Excellent demo,cheers Colin.
Awesome demo! Especially clear on how you handle the proportions of the various elements. Can you give more info about your tail center? I’ve not seen one like it before and haven’t had any luck online.
Quentin DeWitt - The live center came from Craft Supplies USA. They have the original USA made version and a Chinese made knock off. I am very pleased with my USA made version. I do not know anything about the Chinese made version.
Dan Douthart Thank you for the reply and happy turning!
I really enjoyed this video very much and I will be spending sometime in the shop making finials and icicles. I do have one question may we have more information on the metal tool insert for quick changing tools that I believe you said Mark had?
+Jimmie Toney I have added a post that provides information on the tool handle inserts. Thanks for watching our videos.
where is that post? Dont see it...
Hi I really enjoyed the presentation. I went to the site listed for the tool handle adapter PDF, and got the not found reply. Is he still making and selling the parts? Thanks, Jim Tambs.

+CaptData I have added a post that provides information on the tool handle inserts. Thanks for watching our videos.
