    Jodie has made it clear that she would happily jump at the chance if asked to return as the Doctor so easily a 100% for her, mark my words: She'll be in the 70th anniversary special! She's consistently expressed how much she loves the role and the show, and she's coming back for Big Finish the quickest of any of the modern Doctors and I fully expect we'll see her on screen again and I'm excited for that!

      Yes please . 8 and 9 are truly the more traumatised regenerations 8 becase he is the version of Doctor to enter the Time War and fought and lost so many companions , and 9 because of what he did as the War Doctor and the guilt and the blood that he has on his hands . He truly was the one with a planet sized pool of blood of his enemies and regular citizens alike . Both shine when happy , but both as dark as they come . Maybe even darken than 12 was in the start . Imagine the gravitas , the stories these 2 bear on their shoulders .

    I met Paul McGann at Liverpool Comic con and he had almost blatantly shown up and asked if he could be one of the guests because all his prices were written in ballpoint pen and they were really cheap. He had a guy having a long conversation with a bloke and when I came to his booth he told the guy to go quiet for a bit so that he could take his picture with me and gave me his autograph of his Day of the Doctor picture (I don’t remember what his minisode was called). He was genuinely the nicest celebrity, I’ve met at a comic con. He definitely would come back to Doctor Who because he both loves the fans and the show. His return in the Power of the Doctor made me squeal because it was a few months after I met him at the con.

    I have a feeling that Tennant might show up again at some point as 14, most likely when Ncuti leaves the show and regenerates because of all the weird bigeneration stuff. Other than that, I would say that Jodie and Matt are the most likely Doctors to come back if any in the 70th or a future special as Matt is still really young and says he would come back if given the chance and Jodie has said she really wants to come back at some point.

      Now that both the 50th and 60th anniversaries have shown reoccurring incarnations, I honestly believe Paul McGann should return as a new incarnation. Being allowed to be a continuation/new interpretation/ or some amalgam of each. Honestly, making 8 the 16th doctor would be slightly fitting in about 5-10 years time. If not the 18th doctor. Soon, tho. Because, as much as I love the idea of McGann, he's no spring chicken. I'd want him to be on for at least 3 seasons. But, as I've said with each NuWho Doctor, I am fingers crossed for at least 5-7 series/seasons for the respective incarnations. Gatwa better not go anywhere before 2030. So locking it in. McGann. 16th Doctor. At 72.

    Yeah, I think there's a good chance we get Eccleston on our screens in the next decade. We were this close to him showing up in the 50th but it just hadn't been long enough yet but Eccleston's now made his peace with the show and the character by returning to Big Finish and doing conventions.
    All that needs to happen is for the current people running the show to not be there anymore and that the next showrunner doesn't give up on an opportunity to include him for it to happen by the 70th. The next showrunner may be quite hesitant to start doing fanservice and call-backs right away though and would like to craft out their era first, as much as I love Eccleston, it shouldn't be a priority of any showrunner to bring back a past Doctor.

  • @michaelmcchesney6645
    @michaelmcchesney6645 Місяць тому +6

    There was a non-anniversary multi-Doctor story that wasn't an anniversary. Patrick Troughton returned in Colon Baker's era in The Two Doctors. Also, David Tenant could return at his current age (or when he's older) without playing the 14th Doctor. That's because the Metacrisis Doctor is in a parallel universe with Rose Tyler and her Mom. He is supposed to be growing old with Rose. You could bring him and the Tyler's back to this universe for an adventure (or send the current Doctor there).

    The only past Doctor I wanted to see return was Eccleston back in 2013, and I still believe Moffat could've convinced him if he had left the Time War alone and explored the Ninth Doctor's life before Rose. Ideally, we would've seen his adventure on the Titanic. The Titanic is established as a fixed point in time (like the Kennedy assassination) that the Ninth Doctor doesn't interfere with. Contrast with the Tenth trying to change a fixed point of time with Adelaide Brooke's death, and the Eleventh cheating his death, which was another fixed point. The three Doctors would've been connected by their experience of fixed points: the Ninth, reminding himself of his responsibility as the last of the Time Lords, the Tenth deciding that he meant he won the Time War, and the Eleventh, who had moved on from the War.

    I had a fun idea for a multi Doctor story where the ages wouldn’t matter inspired by the Floating Hands short. Something causes the Doctor to keep switching between previous bodies so we get multiple Doctors but only one on screen at a time with each getting to have a dynamic with the companions of the story.

  • @ZandrousVT
    @ZandrousVT Місяць тому +3

    I, personally, would LOVE to see Colin return as "The Curator" since he played the 2nd incarnation of the character in Big Finish. And he could EASILY play that on screen without any worry. But I would like to see him come back as the 6th Doctor, and they can give him the blue outfit that he should've ALWAYS been given on screen. And you can pair him up with Mel, easily, and just put some time shenanigans that explains his older look and have it take place in his personal time line between the end of the Trial season and before he OFFICIALLY meets Mel. But I'm just a huge 6th Doctor mark, and any chance to have Colin back on screen is just something I'll always vouch for.
    Also we could very much see more 8th Doctor in the modern show. A few appearances in a few stories across a couple seasons would be great for the show AND the character, because you can just make it the 8th Doctor during the Time War which makes it easier to have him traveling alone at times. Just have him on some mission for Cardinal Ollistra (who if you don't know this character she's a FANTASTIC antagonistic Time Lord character from the audios and you should listen to them), and you've got yourself some ready made loopholes for time travel hijinks leading to more McGann on screen.

    Guys... As an American who has been a Whovian for much MUCH longer than you guys (sorry folks, but you weren't BORN yet when we got the Doctor originally), Number Four was the first to explode here in the States (even though Number Three was first) - the Ninth and Tenth did bring in more obviously, but us long-timers go clear back to Jon Pertwee when the Third Doctor's adventures were syndicated here (in the Philly area, I saw INFERNO originally on Channel 17, and it had a narrator!).
    Technically, in the mid 70s, PRIOR to the Star Wars craze that hit in 1977, with the surging of Star Trek Mania, classic SciFi on television grew a fandom along side. The same year we got the imported Doctor Who, we had independent stations showing block reruns of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, My Favorite Martian (good gawd!), and then NBC/Paramount/Filmation dropped Trek TAS on us, as we also ate up the reruns of TOS on UHF. But when the PBS stations in Dallas, TX, Wilmington/Philadelphia, and the whole of New Jersey (NJN/PBS) got together and started splicing whole serials into afternoon or evening long movies (after originally just showing them back-to--back, reverting back to this format after Time/Life Video and the BBC started to complain about it), fandom just exploded. So even though many say George Lucas started the wave, actually no he didn't, he just rode the burgeoning one at the perfect time in 1977, care of televised SciFi. And even as Star Wars gave us our first cinematic explosion in a generation (2001: A Space Odyssey was more an event and Logan's Run was okay, but not a starting point for the SciFi wave), television shows still built on what Doctor/Trek/Wars had started, as classics like Danger Man/Secret Agent, The Prisoner, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Blakes 7 and the original Avengers (Steed and Peel not Thor and Black Widow), all showing up on the Public Broadcasting Service, and being funded by the fans.
    We all see cosplayers - Trek may have started it, but there's nothing more dominant as seeing a bunch of Prydonians of Prynceton (Originally from Princeton, NJ) dressed up in full Regal Dress Garb sitting at phone banks taking donation calls for the annual PBS Pledge Breaks (AKA Money Grubbing), usually centered around a new special serial of the Doctor's, like when Genesis of the Daleks first arrived on our shores, or finally getting the first three Doctor's series on PBS with what was available to show, or super specials like The Five Doctors, which premiered HERE before it aired in Britain. Yea, we were important enough that we saw it first. So please., we didn't start loving the Doctor at its rebirth in 2005. We wanted more of it so bad, that we talked one of our television networks to create THE MOVIE with you guys. (Let's just say we were just as cheesed off as you folks at Michael Grade... maybe cheesier... Kind of like how we aren't great fans of Les Moonves as Trekies...)
    The strangest thing of all of this, we can thank two extremely non SciFi imports for all this build-up in America - Monty Python's Flying Circus and Benny Hill, both of whom were here BEFORE the Doctor (MPFC first on PBS and Benny via edited syndicated shows on UHF stations as a response to the British Comedy Wave started by MPFC). As these became popular, Time/Life partnered up with the BBC and CBS with ITV and started deluging us in everything from Across the Pond!

    What I'd like to see past Doctors reappearing for is not an episode of the show, but rather some game adaptations, along the lines of the Matt Smith-era adventure games or maybe even a Doctor Who flavoured first-person adventure game with FMV cutscenes like 1994's Under A Killing Moon. Be a great opportunity to have Christopher Eccleston doing another story, possibly before his Doctor met Rose. Or give Paul McGann some more screen time. Plenty of scope for his Doctor to have a solo adventure, too.
    Honestly, when it comes to adapting the show to a game format, an adventure game is really the best fit, as the Doctor is basically an adventure game protagonist created before the adventure game genre.

    "...I think the more multi-Doctor stories you have the less effective they are, really." This definitely strengthens the argument against them that Ellie was trying to make, and is Capaldi's stance when asked if he'd consider coming back. He's always been dead against it, not because he has anything against the show or the people, he simply doesn't like the concept. For a long time the only two examples we had were the 10th and 20th anniversary specials, the JNT went and ruined it by doing The Two Doctors. Again, nothing against Patrick or Colin, but there was really no need for such a story at the time it was broadcast.
    Got a question for you guys. How would you feel about using archive footage combined with AI to have something approaching a reasonable performance, a la what they did in Rogue One with Grand Moff Tarkin?

    Here's how to mix it up: instead of having a Multi-Doctor episode, just have an episode with current villains going up against a previous Doctor, like Paul McGann. Or maybe that's a good time to bring Jodie back under a different writer. Maybe the villain is chasing after the current Doctor, but wacky time shenanigans happen. Or the villain is deliberately going after an earlier Doctor in a sort of baby Hitler type story, thinking they can stop The Doctor before becoming as experienced/knowledgeable/powerful as the current incarnation etc.

    I know there are options on both sides on whether or not a British actor is required for the doctor,I ask that you might consider the following: My doctor, considering my age, is the 4th Tom Baker. Even as an American, Tom Baker’s 4th taught me that the greatest superpower is the mind. And considering his age, even I would consider Adam Driver. Not only having the physical attributes to visually carry it off but also the acting gravitas to do him justice.

    The Giggle on paper was a multi-doctor story and the year before we got Power of the Doctor and 5 years prior we got Twice Upon a Time so multi-doctor stories aren’t exactly abundant but I get the precedent that at the minute we need a break from them. You can include the fugitive doctor in that I guess but isn’t the same kinda of situation to name it as a multi-doctor story. Yeah we love them but I too would love to see some big, high stakes multi-companion/monster stories. In my opinion, it's difficult if not impossible to bring back the 2nd and 3rd Doctors in any modern story that's not Big Finish, as opposed to the 1st Doctor. It's easy to find a voice impressionist, but more difficult to actually recast them both, since Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee are already so embedded with those characters, that it's hard to disassociate with them. It's much "easier" to recast William Hartnell and to place the 1st Doctor in a modern story and more sensible, since obviously he's the first incarnation (not counting the Timeless Child), and has often been used as a guide for the consciousness for newer Doctors as seen in Power of the Doctor, but even that has had some qualms. People have already criticized David Bradley's performance as William Hartnell's 1st Doctor, as he's much slower with his words and not as energetic compared to Hartnell when he was still in the show, but it's still possible and much easier and sensible to recast and to bring back the 1st Doctor in modern stories, especially with possiblity of Susan returning, and they could do some memory thing like in Power of the Doctor where former companions see the current Doctor as their own Doctors, and maybe David Bradley's Doctor could return in a similar way if the Doctor reunites with Susan.

    I would argue that Reece Shearsmith wasn't right for playing Patrick Troughton full stop. I would like to see 2 back someday. The third Doctor is one of my faves (easily top 3) and we have a couple of candidates, for one Sean Pertwee would make an amazing third doctor he looks and sounds so much like his dad it just feels like a missed opportunity at this point if it doesn't happen, but even Mark Gatiss makes a convincing 3. 4 I just don't think outside of archive footage we will ever see 4 again. You just can't do anything with 4 without Tom Baker. 5, 6, 7 and 8 I would say there is a reasonable chance but the one I would want to see the most out of those is 8. 9 is almost 0% so long as RTD and JG and PC are still involved but I would probably love to see CE return the most out all Doctor's aside from Peter Capaldi and Matt Smith. 10/14 we will see again let's move on. 11 I feel like this one is more on the likely side than not and again I would love to see Matt Smith as the Doctor again. 12 is probably unlikely but I would want to see him the most right after 9. I think it is still too soon for 13, but you know, plus nothing against Jodie she is a great actress but she is my least favourite Doctor even though it's not really her fault.
    The other alternative and I know that for some reason it's controversial, AI could be used to bring back the old Doctors. Obviously their estates would have to be duly compensated but I feel at this point outside of miracles that is only only way we may be able to experience the lost episodes as intended (that's another discussion but I strongly feel it can be done in a way that can satisfy everyone involved) so they really could use it to bring back Actors that are no longer with us. So long as the effect is done well, are we there yet? I don't think so but who's to say we won't be in 10 years.
    We literally got an episode with the Daleks, Cybermen/Masters and the Master had teamed up 2 years ago...
    You guys should do another video like this but for companions. Because strictly speaking some of them are still out there and we have seen the return of Melanie and Donna and Sarah Jane way back in 2006 (god rest her soul). But obviously it would be a bit different because some characters died on screen, some are canonically dead, but who's to say we couldn't get a 15th Doctor story where we see an older (or younger) version of dead companions or any companion, that way they could be recast with someone younger and it wouldn't matter and it wouldn't matter if they got older because, well, people do.

Also, Ellie, the multi-Doctor story as a anniversary celebration is false, only The Five Doctors and The Day of the Doctor were actually anniversary celebrations. The Three Doctors, The Two Doctors, The Power of the Doctor and The Gigglle weren't aired on anniversary dates. Only 1/3 of the time have multi-Doctor stories been on an anniversary.

    Personally I'm a bit done with multi-doctor stories. The Day of the Doctor was wonderful but it worked because the story was so "once in a lifetime" epic - they would struggle to replicate that even with another 39 years of build up. If the show is going to bring back old faces I'd rather they focused on characters that make sense and need closure, like older companions or, yes, the Fourteenth Doctor. I know a lot of people didn't like the fact that the 60th specials didn't bring back any old Doctors (unless Tennant counts, but he was playing a new incarnation ... I dunno!) and I understand that, but I personally liked how interested it was in looking forward to the future, particularly after the divisive few years we'd had and things like the Bad Wolf co-production and the Disney+ deal.
    If past Doctors are to return I'd like it to be more like "Time Crash", fun little cut away scenes that don't take themselves too seriously, or maybe the occasional "vision" as in The Power of the Doctor.
    ... oh, and a Paul McGann spin off series. Obviously!

    For many, recasting the Doctor after Tom left was a struggle. Replacing the man himself in that part - when they were very nearly synonymous, even in his own mind - I think would be an uphill battle. But he has the biggest on-screen legacy already, so it's not really necessary.
