The concept of "less dead" is so heartbreaking. I've seen the Yorkshire Ripper story often, but those shows never went into how botched the investigation was. Hopefully things have gotten better since then, and will continue to, until everyone is equally dead.

That's because dumb people who can't do anything academic turn directly to the police academy not because they want to, but because they're not smart enough to do anything else and need a job (jocks). People need to have stricter laws on who becomes a police officer other than being a citizen.

Reminds me how the Zodiac killer got away because, even with multiple witnesses that he was white when he killed in San Francisco, the cops went looking for someone black, and let the killer slip through their fingers, quite literally.
That wasn't the officers fault and that story is a mere story. The verification as for whether or not the Zodiac was at the scene is unknown. You only want to believe it cause it makes a good story. And as for the officers misidentifying the killers race, that's true but it wasnt their fault. Not the immediate officers cause they were given the wrong info
Another killer hid the bodies and hid in plain sight as a security guard but died before the police can arrest him

Fun fact one of the officers that gave dahmer his victim went on to become the president of the police association in Milwaukee. He failed that teen and was celebrated 🙄
I always tell people about this. It's one of the worst cases of incompetence I've ever seen.
That had to be so disheartening to see a policeman who could help and the victimizer convinces the police to let them return. Sent straight to their death.
That is one of the worst and most deeply horrific instances I've ever heard of. Can you imagine being one of the three women trying to help? And just being forced to watch him take him back inside. That poor kid

I watch a lot of true crime. The main thing that makes these serial killers win historically is poor police work.

I didnt see this comment and posted the same thing, then i saw this comment lol. But yeah, thank god for new technologies and forensic science because many crimes in the past only got solve by luck, and many more never got solved. Also, many killers have got away way longer than they should because of incompetence, usually due to the police looking past people who "didn't look like a killer/monster".
because nobody publicizes GOOD cop work as they dont become serial killers. I kinda feel bad for cops it must stink being a good cop, the bad ones create a steep hill...
There's this bit that comedian John Mulaney did about how easy it was to get away with crimes back in the day. It's funny. But also super sad when you think about it.
I have noticed how I could make a better police officer and detective than most out there.

Entrapment would be when they create a scenario and primarily bring about the crime you commit or conspire to commit. Making a video that by watching it would put you on a watchlist would not be entrapment.

Thank god for advances in technologies and forensic science. I've been watching a lot of true crime stuff, especially the casual criminalist, and the biggest thing I've learned so far is that the police are very often incompetent in the past and many cases are only solved due to luck.
Case in point the Gabby Petito situation...

I think the main reason these killers got away for so long was because of lack of technology and forensics. I doubt they could get away with it nowadays.

When I was getting my CJ degree, one of our classes was centered on serial killers and I'll never forget that something like less than 5% of serial killers get caught. Think about that. That means at any given time, 95% never get caught. They're much more common than you think.

This is true. There seem to be a lot of bias when it come to the victims as well as determining when someone is a killer. We get use to how Disney portray villians and heros that in reality its always the family doctor, or the guy whos the pillar of the community who could be behind it

Was surprised that Dennis Radar (BTK) wasn’t on this list, he was a pillar of his local community, Church elder, security personnel, loving husband and father, Boy Scout leader and was a well liked and respected man about town. He also tortured and butchered women in his spare time. Got away with it for YEARS and was only caught when he sent a goading letter (on a floppy disk) to police many years later, along with information and even some personal effects of the victims, to prove it really was the killer. Maybe they will do another list, that being said, this vid was still very interesting and well researched. Great work as always guys, keep it up! 😊

It just comes down to not having witnesses and developing a sudden case of not having a conscience. It’s 2021. Hard to commit any crime without detection. The hugest mistakes in my opinion, is that people who do anything illegal tend to leave paper trails. The other thing- cell phone’s and social media. If I were (totally hypothetically speaking) to commit a crime, I wouldn’t bring a cell phone with me.
I applied for West Yorkshire Police (the district of the Yorkshire Ripper). Got through the interview and theoretical assessment but I failed the physical due to an ingrowing toe nail which got so bad I couldn't take part.
Have you tried again? If you passed the other stuff, you can make it through
