      Commute every day and it's possible. My 2018 Africa Twin (bought in may 2019, and not used for about 6 months on docs orders. I was rear ended in Feb 2019, so I had to ease back into riding.) has 38XXX miles. I didn't even really go anywhere last year because of COVID, and most of this year. I just went to work.

    • @ACL9000
      @ACL9000 2 роки тому

      @@monunyabidness5949 That's definitely the way to go whenever possible. Even though I have a car I like a lot I always prefer to ride the bike unless it's strictly necessary to take four wheels.
      Last year I got a new job that requires me to carry a lot of stuff with me at all times, so much that it almost took up too much room for a Grand Cherokee, so backpacking that on my Z900RS was out of the question.
      I think I'll be ditching that line of work soon so I can get back to riding every day.

    • @padrescout

      It's not a content.
      OK, so some guy goes let's say 50,000 miles in a year. Is he a better rider? Probably not, riding that kind of miles means hes shooting down the freeways and that's barely riding.
      So ... Good for him? I guess. Wierd thing to brag about but ... people do weird stuff. Smile and nod. Just smile and nod.

    • @ACL9000
      @ACL9000 2 роки тому +4

      @@padrescout It's not as exciting as railing the twisties or blasting down a singletrack through the woods or any of the other sportive stuff, but it's still a hell of a thing to be able to do, man. That's a lot of time in the saddle.
      I probably haven't gone 50,000 miles on motorcycles over the past eight years. Guys who ride many times the distance I have are better riders than me, period. Even if they mostly blast down the slab their roadcraft and their rapport with their bike have to be superior to mine.
      I think it's cool if guys want to do that. They get to see so much of the world and they really get their money's worth from their bike.
      I'm into sport nakeds and other interesting classes of bike that fit my personality. I like my Z900RS more than I could ever like a Goldwing. I don't think I'll ever end up with a big fat touring bike or start riding interstates for thousands of miles, but I still consider this guy (and his bike) to have some worthy accomplishments under the belt.
      I have a good time on my bikes and I try to work them into my life at every opportunity but it's just true: this guy makes me feel like I don't even ride.
      If some old dude on a Goldwing is out there killing it every day it should be encouraging to the rest of us to get out more than we do.

    I’m impressed. I’ve been riding since 1968. I am on my 108 motorcycle, it happens to be a Yamaha royal star venture. My third Venture. I had a GL 1800 earlier this year that I’ve had for a while. A 2002. But I thought it was boring. It was perfect, did everything, I thought it was too powerful. Not that the power was uncontrollable, it’s just that that power cost you money in the form of gasoline consumption.. 33mpg..so I sold it and went back to a venture which I know, I’ve had Venture’s for a combined 192,000 miles so far. Here in 2021 I just picked up this 2008 Royal star Venture. I just think they have a lot more room than the gold wing, they have adequate power. 48 mpg..They feel like a motorcycle, they look like a motorcycle.. i’ll admit it goldwings are perfect. But so is my toaster.. I can now understand why people decorate their gold wings with lots of glitter and trinkets and Christmas tree lighting. In an attempt to make them A little less boring. But boring in a good way.I think I would be more interested in buying my second gold wing if they would install air-conditioning it gets ducted into the helmet and jacket made especially for that feature like Suzuki is working on.. because I just will not ride whatever big bike I have a good time with a full faring and a tall windshield if the temperature goes above 85°. That’s why I have always had at least two street bikes at any one time over the last four decades. You got to have one with the faring, and you got to have one without the fairing.. at least I do, because I wear all the gear, I mean all the gear, and it’s just miserable if the temperature is above 85 when I am behind a faring..
    I would like to know How many deer this man has collided with? I have collided with four, my wife has collided with three, each of my sons has collided with one. But I have collided with two of my deer were while I was riding my motorcycles. I have one at 35 miles an hour on my commuter Pacific coast. Thousand dollars damage I did not go down.
    The first collision I had was just after sunset on my BMW K 1200 LT at 70 miles an hour. I did not go down that time either. The deer just wrapped around the front of my motorcycle just above the front wheel. His hoof whipped my left calf and here 12 years later, that Mark is still there but I did not go down. I just coasted to a stop and then I got excited. I always thought that the deer could see me especially at night with the headlights on..
    One thing about both of my deer collisions while on my motorcycles, both of those motorcycles were black..
    after I repaired the damage, right side of the faring, headlight, faring stay, I continue to commute on that Honda Pacific coast. 24 years, 31 mile round-trip, rain or shine, unless it was really pouring, eight months a year. I would Park my bikes for the year once they start salting the roads here in Pittsburgh during the winter. I never had a single anything fail on that Honda Pacific coast 142,000 miles.. I never washed it with soap and water ever. It was black, black shows every tiny mark. The only thing I ever used to clean that bike was the Honda spray detailer. They claim, and it’s true, you sprayed on the dirt, and gently wipe it off, and it will not scratch, and my black Honda is proof that that is true. I buy that stuff by the case. That’s all I’ve ever used on my motorcycles since the mid-80s when I was a motorcycle salesman part time for 17 years .. I had to work in a motorcycle shop then, to get parts at cost, plus, I made more money as a motorcycle salesman from February through May than I did at my regular job, but I always quit by June 1 because show rooms were deserted after June 1 because anybody that was going to buy a motorcycle, already had it by June 1..
    those two deer collisions have stopped me from riding at night. In the hot summer, I would often go out at 11 PM, midnight, by myself, I had the highways to myself, especially if there was a cloudless full moon. Sometimes I would ride till 4 AM, from Pittsburgh, up to Lake Erie . that is a nice ride under the stars. I would see the deer crossing the highway practically every night, but I always thought they could avoid me.
    then I did some research on the Internet. Ohio Michigan Pennsylvania and New York are the highest deer collision states. Your chances of colliding with a deer are one in 59 every year. Deer are the deadliest animals in the United States. They kill more people than bears, mountain lions, alligators, sharks,insect attacks, dog attacks, snakebites,, combined. Sharks get all of the movies and TV shows, but sharks kill less than 15 people worldwide every year. Deer kill approximately 1000 people that we know of in the United States every year, then there are the accidents that are not explainable where a single car runs into a tree killing the driver, no witnesses, they suspect as many as 5000 of those a year could be because of deer the driver swerved to avoid.
    The deadliest creature worldwide is the mosquito. They kill more than 1 million people a year. But the deadliest four-legged animal in the world are hippos. They kill an average of 3000 people a year. i’m glad we don’t have to deal with them here in the usa

      it’s funny you would bring up deer whistles. I was in the post office one day and a postal truck driver that drives from post office to post office saw the whistles on my Pacific coast. He said those don’t work buddy… he said he’s had 16 deer collisions while driving the post office truck from post office the post office. He said that he swears that one time, he actually scared the deer when they heard the whistles and they ran right in front of him..Deer will run to the place they feel the safest, and a lot of times that’s right across your path. Two of my four deer collisions were deer running into the sides of my vehicle, and my wife’s vehicle was the same thing. They blasted the side of her car
      he said he has tried electronic devices that emit a frequency supposed to scare the deer, and that’s what he had working when that happened. he said he has tried every different design available, and they just simply don’t work for him.. that postal worker drives evenings into the morning hours from north of Pittsburgh, up to Saint Mary’s/Ridgeway along interstate 80. That is sparsely populated deer country. There are even elk in them there hills..

Can't get on a scooter if there is a trunk or back rest cause of this. Had to sell my horses too cause my old legs just won't lift my old ass anymore. My harley friends quit busting up on me. They are rebuilding thier bikes or buying new ones and I am still riding mine instead of working on it. I am going to eventually need a new hub drive gear and rear end due to wear I noticed when changing the rear tire. But no complaints. Not selling this bike. I thought I rode a lot.
