You should try fishing with a slip bobber to cast tiny lures to deeper water.
I've wanted to try one for a while, but I've never seen anyone else using one.
That's a killer technique for winter bass. Float & Fly, it's called.
@Troy Bachtelle I've seen plenty of conventional bobbers being used but never a slip bobber. The difference being that the slip bobber is able to slide down to the lure for casting, giving additional weight and everything. Then when it hits the water the line and lure slide through the bobber until it hits a stop at a specified depth.
Such a realistic example of a typical fishing trip...lost lures, bugs, snags stick fish and other aggravation...Only thing missing was a birds nest backlash

I got one of those swimbaits off a friend of mine who ordered a bunch online....they are amazing swimbaits for the price and have great action, already caught several bass on them!
I bought a few of those, they swim great. I haven't been skunked yet since I started using them.

Those lures had some great action for sure! Good size for anywhere in the country too. Not too big like some of those giant glidebaits.

You might also look at the AliExpress website or, better mobile app. You can often find the same lures on AliExpress for half or less than what they can be bought on Amazon. Problem is you may need to wait a while to get it.
Oh yeah, you’re dentist may hate you for it, but if you’re using mono or flouro, you can bite the line, not bite it through, but just seriously dent the line and it should just take a slow pull of the line for it to “cut” cut the line. Been doing it for years. Won’t work for braids, btw.

When I was young and broke I would bring a pruning saw with me in winter. When the trees didn’t have leaves it was easy to spot lures stuck in trees. If you can cut off the branch you’re in business! Less selection than stores, but cheaper!

I have geese behind my house on the lake and I always said that no bird would punk me becasue I would just kick it if it really tried to bite me. The other day at work I walked outside and there was a bird nest right outside the door. A bird attacked me. It was a little robin. In the end I found out I'd probably feel too bad kicking a bird, so I just let this one dive bomb me while I tried to get a picture of it haha.
You fish so close to where I live you should let me take you to some of the best spots down in southern Illinois
