As bass fisherman we have always had lures where we try to Mimmick what bass eat. I don't think any lure has nailed a bluegill quite like this one.
I was very impressed by the Berkley Gilly and the way that it swam!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Great, straightforward and honest review. When nose hooking, try covering the barb with a small piece of the tail of a straight tail worm. It improves the weedlessness and creates the illusion of a bluegill chasing bait.

As soon as these came out I picked up 6 packs. 2 of each size. Was using these before seeing this. I tried rigging them like Ike suggested in his video, which is the side rig with the nail weight. I lost 3 of them because they just kept ripping off of the hook during casts. So I evicted them from my bag. I like what you have done with the screw lock instead of rigging it Texas rig style. I'll have to revisit this bait with that.

been telling guys who where having issues with it staying upright since the issei gill set is nose hooked and is the original of this bait. I just recommend same rigging and u ended up making a video about it so kinda was cool for the reassurance and also if want it to be a little weedless a wire guard wacky hook would work really well on the nose hook.

Excited to fish this for bed fishing and light flipping. Try the 110 on a 4/0 flipping hook and try putting a small piece of a packing peanut/pool noodle in the top slit and superglue it closed, then add a line through with the treble hook on the bottom.

2 or #3 screw in hook with nail weight and the take a small piece of foam and pack it in the little pouch on the top of the gilley. Tyler...this cause the gilley to stand up straight and also makes it look like it is feeding on something on the bottom when fishing in beds. I caught a 6 pounder and a few smaller ones doing this method, a little secret I learned years ago, get a small piece of Alka seltzer and put it in all your plastics, using like a larger creature bait and take a knife, cut a small slice in it, put the Alka seltzer in it and let it work on the bottom, especially when bedding..the bubbles drive the bass crazy..it pisses them off and they will go after it..learned it from my grandfather 👍

I'm glad you did this video. I knew about the Japanese bait and yeah I saw the video where Iconelli was saying he designed it. But you were exactly right about it's origen. I love the way they look but I wanted to see how they went for other people. They are always sold out where ever I shop for them. I've got a good supply of Bellows gill's and they work really nice. This gilly is a different look & I like the color scheme. I've got a pond I fish that I know they are deadly on but it's still early. Now I'm going tomorrow to do some sight fishing. Wacky rigging did great last week but I'm trying to frog some tomorrow. Last year it started exactly the same week so....... Thanks for sharing this. I'm definitely going to apply them as soon as I can get a handful.

The best way to rig the Gilly I found was to line thur it with a coffee straw and it saves the bait to reuse it over and over you can actually use one bait all day long then some let it slid up the line after a fish hit the treble hook so it make it look like a crank bait screw a
Hitchhiker through the bottom of the belly in front of the line through Hole . spread the hitchhiker clip out to where it lets the hook released when the fish hits it and he or she get a mouth full of hooks your good to go !!!& great fishing god bless had to share that secret thank you for what your doing love you channel a fan for sure 👍🏻oh ps and it lets it swim ever naturally

Can also use a line through setup with a treble hook on the bottom or for deeper applications I've been using the berkley fusion 19 weighted wacky hooks and a nail weight in the belly for balance

I have a rigging idea for you. Take a coffee straw and push it through the nose and out the belly. Cut it off flush on both sides and glue the ends if you wish. Then take a small treble hook and run it line through. Then your hook is hidden a bit better and it should look really natural and you'll have the added belly weight and the leverage advantage of a line through.
