I remember that the Lange was hated when it released, but then Lange reduced the production numbers and continued to grow their brand and now they are desirable. It's pretty funny how they removed the option to remove the bracelet just to say it's an "integrated" bracelet watch, when it's obvious it wasn't meant to be.
not even close.. for me.. The VC > Lange.. While I love the Lange watches, and their movements are stellar... VC IS after all the oldest company in the Holy Trinity. BTW, I prefer the black dial VC... it's a deep deep deep (did I say deep) black like I've never seen.
Massive ALS fan, although I don't find the Odysseus attractive. I own the Overseas dual time (7900V) and it makes for a perfect daily with the strap options. VC boutique customer service also puts Rolex to shame! Keep up the great work Tim!
Rolex ADs are a joke. Rude, cold, and snobby. Everything puts them to shame. Rolex brand and owner culture has gone down the toilet. Crypto and Instagram bros.
for the a lange söhne odysseus is the winner the movement is absolutely beautiful the attention to details is stunning dont get me wrong, the VC overseas has an amazing dial, but for some reason i dont like the bezel that much
For me, it's the Lange. Now, if you compare it to a blue Overseas Dual Time, that's a close battle. The next level Overseas Everest Dual Time wins all battles (for me).
I would have these as a 2-watch collection. Have the blue VC and on the waitlist for the full gold. Thinking of going on the list for the Odysseus (although you'd have to start with other pieces at the boutique). At the end of the day, the GOAT is still Tim.
Aesthetically speaking the VC takes the win. The Lange might have better finishing but the VC is Almost half the price in the used market compared to the Lange.
Advantage, on water resistance? I know the Vc could be had for 19k, now it’s like 35k. The A Lange, is just a lot less pedestrian. The double digit date, and day in an unusual layout. ALange for those that know. Wink. VC if you actually want t9 wear it knocking around. That bezel helps.
Longer-lasting lume on the hands is always preferable to longer-lasting lume on the markers. You can read the time with just the hands, but you cannot do so with just the markers.
Ouch, difficult choice. I think the Vacheron for that bracelet and the richness of its dial, the Lange for the case, dial architecture and design, and its movement. But only just in both cases. Honestly, if someone wants to give me either of these, I'm more than happy to accept.
Came back to this video to say that after this video, I finally purchased the VC from Watchbox and worked with Nick. You and the team are great. Those who might be on the fence, their customer service is truly wonderful and cannot recommend them enough.
Thank you so much for trusting us with your watch purchase. We hope that you love your "new" Vacheron and wear it in the best of health! We'll pass along your kudos to Nick as well. Thanks again, --Team WatchBox
As a VC owner, I love the Overseas collection, brought mine from the AD just over 2 yrs ago. The VC bracelet system is simply great - you get 3 watches in one, and you can buy many other colours. The Lange AD said once I have purchased 4 or 5 models then an Odysseus might be offered. Lange is made in small numbers, but I wonder how many is made of each model from VC - not a lot I would suggest. The Blue dial on the VC is really something else, when you see it in person you really appreciate just how good it is.
I think the Vacheron is aethetically superior, the Lange doesn't quite have the instant pizzaz and 'completeness'. I think the Lange will keep changing in future to iron out design flaws whereas VC have really hit on a winning design. I agree with TIm, VC wins.
Ask a random group of people which watch they would pay $35k.....most will probably say neither, the remainder will probably pick the one on the right.
The Lange's bracelet is the weakest link in that the design is too fussy. The Overseas not only beats the Aquanaut, Nautilus and Royal Oak, but the Odysseus here as well. And the 3 quick change straps make it even better. The most balanced looking and dynamic in it's class.
The ALS dial is really something. It makes the Overseas look plain. Especially those lovely big date and day functions. And I also prefer the case. Both have highly finished movements.
Funny, the VC Overseas which has probably one of the most beautiful bracelets which I would never change has the easiest mechanism to change a bracelet!?!
The lange is is so unique, theres nothing like it. To me, maybe im buying much to my own rhetoric, it looks so “Hellenistic”. The broad bracelet looks like a gauntlet or something with its multilinks. The dial, oh my the dial, the blue is so agean so greek. I wish the lume was also blue and i wish they taper the case somehow, at the moment it looks like a puck almost. But really its easy to look over
I'm pretty certain that I would take the Rolex Datejust or the Grand Seiko White Birch High Beat Over The VC. I'm not thrilled with the A. Longe because of weaknesses you pointed out but at least it's a more stunning piece. To me the ALS wins easily.
The Overseas is just the full package. Aesthetically beautiful, amazing dial, two additional quick change strap options, micro adjustments on either side. I love Lange, but I just don’t think this watch fits their ethos as well as the dress models
I am a Lange fan and the 1815 is my absolute grail watch however I also love VC and it is extremely unfair to VC to compare one of their entry level watches to something that is 3 times more expensive than it.
The inability to get anything at retail anymore is such a turn off to the market. I’m in my 30s and looking to establish a lifelong buying relationship with a brand but they all want prior relationships to be considered. By simple math standards I’d be focusing on the high earning youth with longer lifespans trying to get them in the door as clients, but what do I know I only sell luxury real estate worth millions…
Apples and oranges to me. Visually and functionally the ALS is quite different with its grande date windows and seconds sub dial. I much prefer the visual interest and symmetry of the ALS. The Vacheron is a little dull, and the asymmetry of the 3 o’clock date window pains me. ALS movements are also on a level of their own, in my book.
Having seen and worn both watches at a dealer, I personally liked Lange Odysseus better. VC’s lug to lug is just too big, and I’m not a fan of its bezel design.
The VC is far far classier. No way is a steel ALS sport watch worth $80k…that is absurd. Only idiots spend that. VC is a superior watch in every regard for me.
ALS, No comparison, I hate the date window on the VC. Tiny AF, not a big fan of the over the top shiny blue either, seems like size on ALS wears better as well.
This is interesting, both watches don't have a gigantic horrible zit on their sapphire crystals to help the blind read the date. Would this be considered ableist?
@@scoh840 I consider it a form of Stockholm Syndrome. Rolex owners tend to buy those watches for the name and brand recognition, all else be damned. Since they already shelled out for an overpriced timepiece, they pretty much have to convince themselves retroactively that the sapphire zit is a good thing.
No hacking at this price level is unforgivable. The Lange it is, it’s also more wearable for tiny wrist people like me. The Lange seems to be the overall better watch and bracelet. Looks are subjective. It’s the Lange for me again here
The A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus is absolutely beautiful.
Overseas has the more cohesive design but MAN that Odysseus blue dial is incredible.
Saw the VC in person a while ago and the deep colour of the dial still mesmerizes me to this day. It was spectacular
I ended up going for the black, it’s like a black hole
I used to hate the Odysseus but I like it now… still things that need to be changed on it but still a cool watch
That ALS movement is absolutely gorgeous. Work of art
I remember laughing at the haters when the Odysseus was announced because I knew the lemmings would jump on the bandwagon eventually. So predictable.
not even close.. for me.. The VC > Lange.. While I love the Lange watches, and their movements are stellar... VC IS after all the oldest company in the Holy Trinity. BTW, I prefer the black dial VC... it's a deep deep deep (did I say deep) black like I've never seen.
Both of these are incredible pieces, but I would have to go with the Vacheron, however if I could afford it, I would definitely have both.
Usually watch values peak after 50 years, so in another 20 I wonder what the overseas lineup will be worth
Massive ALS fan, although I don't find the Odysseus attractive. I own the Overseas dual time (7900V) and it makes for a perfect daily with the strap options. VC boutique customer service also puts Rolex to shame! Keep up the great work Tim!
😂😂😂😂😂 Rolex?????
Rolex ADs are a joke. Rude, cold, and snobby. Everything puts them to shame. Rolex brand and owner culture has gone down the toilet. Crypto and Instagram bros.
ALS for me. However, the Odysseus is impossible to get. The VC is merely extremely extremely difficult.
the vc is way easier nowadays
Just buy a zeitwerk and they will sell you an Odysseus...just discovered this 😂
Tim, thank you for this comprehensive, candid, and gripping-to-the-end showdown. No one on the intrenet 'does watches' better. 👏🏼
Lange is $34,900 at retail now. Price of $28,800 was at time of reference introduction.
Unfortunately it is impossible to buy at retail.
@@dannysimenauer5745 When it first came out, ALS gave big discounts on the Odysseus because there was so much hate. Then the lemmings got in line.
It was that cheap? Dang now it’s all 50k+
for the a lange söhne odysseus is the winner
the movement is absolutely beautiful
the attention to details is stunning

For me, it's the Lange. Now, if you compare it to a blue Overseas Dual Time, that's a close battle. The next level Overseas Everest Dual Time wins all battles (for me).
Both Richmont group watches.
Love them both.
I have the pink gold blue dial overseas though.
I would have these as a 2-watch collection. Have the blue VC and on the waitlist for the full gold. Thinking of going on the list for the Odysseus (although you'd have to start with other pieces at the boutique).
At the end of the day, the GOAT is still Tim.
I love the Lange but for me the VC in RG is difficult to beat. I do wish they made it in a smaller size though.
I wish Tim would show the extra straps when they are included.
Buy the Vacheron and fantasize the Lange. My only quibble, the Overseas doesn’t have stop seconds.
They are both desirable watches. The Vacheron looks better. The ALS is more stealth and has a better appearing movement and finishing.
Aesthetically speaking the VC takes the win. The Lange might have better finishing but the VC is Almost half the price in the used market compared to the Lange.
VC has the advantage but, the ALS has everything I want in a watch, and then some 😍
Advantage, on water resistance? I know the Vc could be had for 19k, now it’s like 35k. The A Lange, is just a lot less pedestrian. The double digit date, and day in an unusual layout. ALange for those that know. Wink. VC if you actually want t9 wear it knocking around. That bezel helps.
Longer-lasting lume on the hands is always preferable to longer-lasting lume on the markers. You can read the time with just the hands, but you cannot do so with just the markers.
your audio sound quality varies a lot, depending of your movements and positioning. why dont you use a fixed mike near your mouth?
Ouch, difficult choice. I think the Vacheron for that bracelet and the richness of its dial, the Lange for the case, dial architecture and design, and its movement. But only just in both cases. Honestly, if someone wants to give me either of these, I'm more than happy to accept.
Lange is much more unique for what Lange considers a sportswatch. I love it
Personally I prefer the gloss dial of the VC overseas compared to the Matte finish of the ALS Odysseus. They are both really superb watches though.
I want the Overseas one day. It is my number one grailwatch. The Lange is also amazing
VC wins overall. Both watches beautiful, ALS more divisive … for many reasons.
Somehow I believe that the quality of Lange is way better. Correct me if I am wrong.
I adore the VC. While one can make a list of features and specific design elements, as a package, it is far nicer.
Great review, VC all the way in this one, the lug transition on the Lange just kills it for me.
Came back to this video to say that after this video, I finally purchased the VC from Watchbox and worked with Nick. You and the team are great. Those who might be on the fence, their customer service is truly wonderful and cannot recommend them enough.

What's your thoughts on the watch? Is it as great in person as you were expecting it to be?
@@TheMuffinator better.
VC has no hacking second. A no go for me. VC beautiful but a bit plain as well. Lange for me.
ALS every day and twice on Sundays
As a VC owner, I love the Overseas collection, brought mine from the AD just over 2 yrs ago. The VC bracelet system is simply great - you get 3 watches in one, and you can buy many other colours.

odysseus has that german no nonsense approach of design as opposed to overseas which models its bracelet after the Maltese cross.
Vacheron... Except no substitutes.... FTW!
Ask a random group of people which watch they would pay $35k.....most will probably say neither, the remainder will probably pick the one on the right.
Couldn’t agree with you more Tim, thanks for the sterling review!

I have a Royal Oak, but I’d much rather have an Overseas
@@underdog5081 Lol. First world problems. Congrats on owning such a grail piece.
@@cookedit lol, yes first world problems indeed
Vacheron is a cooler watch but the Lange is sweet also
The ALS dial is really something. It makes the Overseas look plain. Especially those lovely big date and day functions. And I also prefer the case. Both have highly finished movements.
Pricing aside the VC I just flat out find more attractive. The Lange lugs and even somewhat the case shape just seems a bit awkward.
I’d go VC for the sports watch and go Lange 1 Moonphase as my dress pick.
The VC over that goofy looking Lange, ALL DAY!
The perfect 2 watch sport collection? Yes.
I like them both, but for me if I have to choose between those 2 beautiful watches, I would go with the VC due to its versatility.
Odysseus. Hands down my personal choice!
The silver dial VC is the best version of Gen III but Gen II is a better looking and finished timepiece, albeit with less tech…
But how do I pay for them, my cc limit is only $1.5k, lol.
The VC, Jack of all Trades and Master of All and not available at your local Walmart at Timex prices. Sorry Stan.
I go with the overseas
VC not even close imo…the bracelet alone makes it the winner…I do love ALS…but not this watch
its the lange for me everytime
The fact that the VC does not have hacking, is simply unforgivable.
Wow. Прекрасные часы. Спасибо
Vacheron is the Champions 😊 in
A combination of buying both watches would be the best option!😊
I prefer a $20 Casio for kids. That's when I'm balling. Thanks for the video, nice to see high quality and luxury precious metal watches.
The VC gets my vote. Both are very handsome timepieces.
Funny, the VC Overseas which has probably one of the most beautiful bracelets which I would never change has the easiest mechanism to change a bracelet!?!
Great review of both!
VC by far superior
The rose gold blue dial version even better
VC all day

I’m taking the overseas due to the exact same reasons you did. Also, I’m biased because I have the dual time 😊
any idea of the dials color longevity of the VC if exposed to the sun daily? what is the color made of?
I like the Overseas better
Both are superb watches ,but I’m a ALS fan , thanks

That didn't age well. I now own the VC Overseas 4520 with silver dial. I was insane to post what I posted.
Tremendous review.
The Overseas is just the full package. Aesthetically beautiful, amazing dial, two additional quick change strap options, micro adjustments on either side. I love Lange, but I just don’t think this watch fits their ethos as well as the dress models
Lange all day
I can’t get around the Lange bracelet and lug width…makes it look really chunky.
In my eyes the VC looks pale to the A. Lange & Söhne! There is no watch brand that can compete with the art of ALS!
Amazing watches…but Overseas any day
Lange all day. Just amazing in every level.
The Vc doesn’t have hacking seconds 😮
I am a Lange fan and the 1815 is my absolute grail watch however I also love VC and it is extremely unfair to VC to compare one of their entry level watches to something that is 3 times more expensive than it.
VC 😍
VC wins but Lange is close second
Odysseus' dial is more unique.
Wow. Maybe the two watches I literally couldn’t chose between, barring a coin flip.
VCO for me
The VC by a full length….

Fantastic review Tim! The Vacheron is a much better watch overall, than ALange Sohne!
It's like they had a Offshore train of thought for a mad moment. Failing to stay true in unfamiliar territory.
