R.I.P to Cali Nate who died racing last Saturday night in Texas. Surprised you didnt talk about his build. This man built a classic Fair Lady Z thats a monster. He walked the dog in that last race. People are saying the fair lady design is too light on the rear end, so when he let up on the gas, it got loose and that track has gravel shoulders. All bad. Plus he is a taller dude and that Z is tiny,not sure if it was head or neck damage, possibly both. He was on Street Outlaws season 4. Cali Nate whooped JJ the Boss entire crew.

I am looking at the 5.4 twincam tho, big turbo, 6spd manual+ gear vendors under/overdrive auxiliary trans. I like a thick horse that can run❤

Yep. Race car shit always goes "simplify, then add lightness." If he wanted to get better weight distribution and a better rear suspension without too bad a shitload of work (and still having the benefits of solid axle) he should look into getting a corvette transaxle (or any transaxle with the CVs at the back) and building a De-Dion axle rear suspension using a Satchell Link style triangulated 4-link.
That and setting the engine back however much he can after the trans relocation should get him to 50/50 (which isn't technically perfect, but I digress) plus he'll have a much lighter rear suspension (that he could even run inboard brakes on) that can react quicker like an IRS but with a much simpler setup/design process in terms of creating the correct geometry.

I’m a ls fan but I admit a coyote is superior. The only downfall is swapping a coyote without butchering the car. That’s where the ls wins every time. I have a 17 f150 with a coyote if that thing gets wrecked I’m putting that engine/trans in my 72 f100. Room for days under that hood!
They probably modernized the chassis to make it both lighter and stiffer.
That pic is on a Circuit, circuit racers typically do that with resto mods, the old chassis aren't nearly as stiff as modern platforms.
Its comes down to the whole Power To Weight ratio... the new junk weighs in a ton more then the old rides... all these new cars got so much electric crap & added air bags & extra safety crap, more plastics, ect then the stuff from the 90's & on back.

How do you feel about the price to build a coyote vs LS? The coyote has come a long way since gen 1 with 412hp. I recall working with k&n/AEM as we designed the intake that would change the coyote platform. Letting that engine breathe is paramount. Forced induction is not even necessary to be honest. I feel the 6.2 is underpowered and an expensive build ( Hellcats are fun but not probable) 😅. I think the 4.8 L20 would be a contender for the 5.0 though 🤔 #STAYWOT

I mean.. it wouldn't be sub-3000 anymore with boost. No matter how you boost it, that system will add weight, and a fair bit of it. Still, 31-3200 pounds making 800 minimum crank horsepower would be absolutely bananas. I forget whether the Gen 1 can handle that sustainably, but Gen 3s are daily driveable (in terms of reliability) at 1200 wheel.

Depends on Alot of factors, youll find the failure rate for an oem LS1 is way way less than the competition.....also the Ls1 tormented the other manufacturers for almost 20 years before they even caught up. Just saying
I'm not going to lie. The Cyotee is a great engine, I looked into swapping it into my JK. Now im going with a 5.3L LS. It's only really good to put into Fords or the odd kit car.
The Nobel M60 is something I would put the 5L into over the turbo 6's it usually gets.
An ls is a decent engine until they aren't. I am literally putting a coyote in place of the factory ls in my 2002 Z28. So, I'll have a built 6.0 with a t56 for sale soon lmao

It's literally 2 k24 engines slammed together I've seen a ls go to 10k if you build any engines right it can go the distance I'll stick to my mopar just built different and I'm not talking about the hemi I've seen the baby 5.2 magnum engines rip ls and coyotes a new a hole but hey as long as you enjoy your build at the end of the day it's worth it 🤘
Dodges are heavy but I rather my hemis and ls engines. Coyotes are not cheap to build idk where people get that from. My heart is chevy though for mods.

The ls will still run 10's without oil and fried alternator. Retro swapping anything doesn't make an engine any better or worse and pointing out the weight of an old car vs new car is looking for excuses. My 1973 MGB GT with a dodge 360 w 727 hauls ass, and that doesn't make the 360 (out of a 78 camper van) any better or worse than anything else just because I swapped it into a much smaller/lighter car.
