    Riley Pint's story sounds very similar to Tyler Matzek. It's even for the same team. The Rockies drafted Matzek in the firat round as one of the 22 players who was drafted ahead of Mike Trout. Matzek got "The Yips" with the Rockies and quit baseball. He ended up coming back to baseball in an unaffiliated league. His former manager Walt Weiss had become bench coach for the Atlanta Braves and convinced the Braves to take a flier on him. He ended up becoming one of the best left handed relief pitchers in the Braves bullpen and played a huge role in helping the Braves win the 2021 World Series. He played a big role again in 2022 but missed last season due to Tommy John surgery. Tyler Matzek is expected to come back for the start of next season and be ready to make a big contribution in what will be his first ever contract year as an MLB pitcher. He will surely want to prove himself prior to reaching free agency after the 2024 season.

      Matzek was an Oregon signee who I was hoping would pitch for Oregon. Glad he found some success. Another Oregon signee who ended up in Atlanta who should've made this list is Alex Jackson who was picked sixth overall by the Mariners in 2014. He was a bust.

    • @matthew01234
      @matthew01234 10 місяців тому +1

      @@jirikurto3859 I remember Alex Jackson as well. He started out as a center fielder and then switched to catcher. I think Alex Jackson and Tyler Matzek may have actually played for the Atlanta Braves at the same time if I remember correctly. The Braves ended up trading Jackson to the Marlins when they were looking for catching after the JT Realmuto trade.

      I'll catch the yips too if I get bamboozled to pitch for the Rox. They must leave Colorado. Can they be the MLB supersonics?

    • @RobbbbC
      @RobbbbC 10 місяців тому

      The handful of Pint's pitches shown here seem like enough to know his mechanics were trash. He's so stiff over his front leg.

    • @matthew01234
      @matthew01234 10 місяців тому +2

      @@YeeHee-ds8vh They will never give up on Colorado because the fans are loyal. Unlike cities like Oakland, Miami, Tampa Bay (which is actually St. Petersburg) and many other cities... Rockies fans will show up to games in droves. They won't use the team losing as an excuse to not show up. They show up anyway. So MLB will never give that up and they shouldn't. They did make it to a World Series one year but they swept something like 17 games in a row to get there and MLB rules sucked out all their momentum by making them take 10 consecutive days off before the world series. It's definitely harder to win baseball games in Colorado but the people who live there know that and that's why they always show up. Honestly... Considering the circumstances I might be willing to say Rockies fans are the most loyal fans in MLB and there is a surprisingly large number of them. When cities like Oakland, Miami, and even 99-win Tampa Bay can't even buy fans during the playoffs you can't tell loyal fans they don't deserve a team.

    If you look at the history of the MLB draft, you'll see that star players can come at any time. Also, note that until Ken Griffey Jr., no top pick had ever been inducted into the HOF. Lastly, teams can get players from the international pool, so there's more competition for roster spots.

      I remember back in the 90's hearing that the average minor league player's chance of playing even one mlb game was about 1 in 40. There were more minor league teams then, would be interesting to see what the odds are now.

    Great list of busts. Surprised to not see Connor Scott, though it could be too early for him. Being a Marlins fan, I want to give extra context on Tyler Kolek.
    He was drafted for his easy triple digits fastball. When they settled him in a regular starting pitcher workload, his velocity inexplicably fell from triple digits to fringy 90-92. You'd think it was his lack of run prevention and Tommy John surgery that kept him from sniffing A+, but no. That's just the outcome of the real problem. The real problem was how wild he was. No, seriously, look at 2017-2019. After Tommy John in 2016, he had control problems that spiraled out of control. Look at the amount of BBs, HBPs, and WPs, and look at his innings pitched, and that will paint a clearer picture. He's always had control problems even before the Tommy John, but after Tommy John, he literally could not throw a baseball. It felt like every time he pitched he had no idea where the ball was going. It was quite sad to watch.

The Legends were an Astros affiliate from 01-11 or 2012. In 12 or 13 they became a Royals affiliate and was excited to see some of the new roster. Well, Bubba Starling was on that roster. It should’ve been a sign. Most top 5-10 picks skip Low A ball all together. Even HS picks. He was okay. But you could tell he just didn’t have it, to go higher up. He had a rough injury history.
