Just finished making my second pair - and they turned out soooo good (I wore my first pair out 😮) - love how easy the instructions are to follow both printed and video. Will likely make more with different colours. ❤
I made a pair for my daughter for her semester in China. NOW, her five friends want one and she wants another. Yeah!! Great instructions. ANYONE WHO MAKES THESE: go NOW to the dollar/discount stores. They're getting rid of summer shoes for $1 (or less). Buy lots of colours! Be creative! They don't have to be dark tones.THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO for the visual learner.
kim tomlinson Kim; If you haven't been answered, watch her tutorial on how to create moccasins. She spaces 1/4 inch apart. I have seen people suggest the use of a knitting loom hook to make the holes. The have an 'L' shape and pointed on the tip with a colored plastic handle. JoAnns or any store that sells yarn should have them. That's what I use so my entrance and exit are more squared than diagonal. Hope that helps.
i am so happy that i have the same size flip flop i'm working with now because even though i cant afford the pattern for the ruler i can pretty much make one myself with the same number of holes by measuring the circumference of the sole
I am thinking about making these for my toddler age daughter. This looks easy and fun as a Christmas gift for kids. Plus you save money. Toddler boots like this are very expensive.
sumrsolo I love that crochet seems to be getting very popular with young people. It's no longer a grandma's art. It's so nice being able to make things with love for my kids that I know they will be able to keep long after in gone.
Some good tips, but using black yarn on a black shoe for a demo was a poor choice. I’m making my second pair now, but I used a good memory foam flip flop with real soles so they last and are way more comfy
Hi! I’ve watched through your first video and have started the second one. I’m about to start this project for myself but I am also trying to make this boot for my bosses toddler who is 3 yo. I was just wondering if you know of a video or maybe a way for me to follow the instructions you have online to make them in a smaller size for her? I’d really appreciate it. I’ve been looking to start this project for a long time and I am so excited to make these! Thank you so much for making these videos! 💕
Hi. So you mentioned for a size 7/8 you are poking holes 1/3 inch apart finishing with 64 holes in total. If I were making a smaller size (size 5), would I be poking my holes 1/3 inch apart and having less holes or would I make it so I have 64 holes in total all around?
I cracked my flip flop trying to crochet the base stitch in black. Ugh! Any suggestions on how to avoid that? Or, how to seal the cracks without it looking sloppy? I’m concerned about the Slipper holding up over time.
Hey Christina, I'm sorry to hear that happened! My best advice is to try a thinner tool for poking the holes. I outline a couple of good options as well as show how my boots have held up over time in this post: makeanddocrew.com/faqs-how-to-crochet-on-flip-flops/ (They've held up incredibly well and I've only had the yarn pull through a couple of holes on a different pair after 1.5 years of solid wear because the flip flops basically disintegrated. :)
My flip flops keep ripping and I don't know how to stop that. By ripping, I mean the hole becomes a slit because the tool rips through the sole. I'm not using a big awl or a big hook, I'm not twisting or doing anything that I would think would make it rip. Any suggestions?
This is my concern. I feel like it must depend on the material of the shoe. I wonder if it can be reinforced before the yarn goes through. Did you ever get it working?
I bought the pattern and its says on page 8 the ruler is there but when I go to page 8 there is nothing except a pic of some examples of how to use it but no actual ruler. I keep looking for a link or something to click but I can't find it
How do we count out the stitches for different sizes? My 5 yr old daughter wants me to make her some and so does my boyfriend. I just got done making myself some (I wear the same size as the video).
The point of Her Video is to make money from the pattern. right at the beginning you cannot continue without the measuring tool and instructions from her Pattern. It's a redundant Video. She's about making money.
I completely disagree with you. You're being very rude for no apparent reason. She wouldn't go to all this effort of 3 videos just to sucker you into paying $2.00
Hi, thanks for the video. You explain really good. I had a question, the sole I'm using for my boot is really thin. Probably a third or fourth the thickness of an average flip flop. Is there a way to use crochet or something to make it thicker? Or any tips to make it fatter and more reliable? Thanks for the video again.
I do realize that this video is from last year so i'm not sure that you'll answer. I've tried this before with my own pattern but using flip-flops as well. I had an issue with the flip-flop ripping where the holes are after wearing them only a few times. Do you have any suggestions? I tried using more durable soles but found that they weren't flexible enough to keep the crocheted part tearing/breaking away from the sole.
I NEED HELP, PLEASE! 😭 I cannot make the holes properly! Then when I try to crochet my sc mine ripped!!! What am I doing wrong! I am using a tapestry needle to make the holes at the measurements in the instructions, and I am using worsted weight yarn 4, and I'm using a 2.25 mm hook!
I came to the comments looking for experiencing with flip flop material ripping. It must depend on what it’s made out of. A lot of people seem to be having success. Even having them wear out in other ways first. But I have some sort of vague memory of trying to sew a shoe sole, I think it was even a flip flop, and having it just tear apart instead. Maybe the sewing thread was too cutting and increases the likeliness of tearing. But it’s gotta just depend on the flip flop material. 🤔
It is difficult to see where the holes are placed. Are you making the holes all the way through the rubber sole, or are you going from the outer edge of the sole through the top? Please make another quick tutorial using a lighter colored sole with contrasting yarn so we can see it better. Thanks.
I need help. U say a third of an inch and a fourth of an inch. Which one do i do? And where is that on a ruler? Also I'm a size 9.5 so should i go up 10 stitches?
Every time i try to sc around the bottom sole my hook rips straight through the flip flop. Ive been through 2 pairs of rue21 flip flops trying to make These. Is there any advise for a type or flip flop? I tried using a b hook then a d. I used a tapestry needle to poke the holes but i still rip straight through my soles :(
I got flip flops from Ardens. I'm on my second pair of boots and those flip flops are holding up pretty good. I've ripped through a few times but that was the fault of my technique if that helps
I've had great luck with flip flops from Old Navy. They are about $2.50-4. I suggest using the smallest tool you can find to poke the holes so as to cause less "trauma" to the sole while you poke them. I use a very thin tool that's meant for clay crafts. I got it at Michael's for a few dollars. I talk more about tips on poking the holes in this post: makeanddocrew.com/faqs-how-to-crochet-on-flip-flops/
I'm my experience, the pattern is pretty accommodating to wide feet to begin with, partly because the yarn will sort of just form to your feet. One thing you could try is just eliminate the last decreases around the toe to keep the whole shoe from getting too tight on the top. Also, if it's for you, I def recommend trying it on as you go because you'll learn a lot about how it's fitting along the way. :)
Christine Pokriefka the yarn and the flip flop will "settle" with ware and sort of stretch. you want to start smaller so that as you wear your shoe in it will not become too big. 😊
for some reason, having made them in my own size.. I ended up with a weird.. bit at the back, looking as if i had used a size too large... making them in a size or 2 smaller... they seem to look and fit soooo much better
It is hard to see what she is doing with black yarn and black flip flops. I get you want to have the same color of sole as yarn, but for teaching purposes you really need to be able to see.
Did you even watch the video? The Thick-n-Quick doesn't go into the sole. She uses a worsted weight yarn that matches the color of the flip flop sole for that foundation row.

Thank you for putting the videos on UA-cam, it really does help explain your pattern. I couldn't get the other videos to work.
love this video I did make these sweater boots and my family love them. you are so clear that I can understand thankyou so much
Fantastic. I will surely be doing this as soon as I gather all the materials. Thank you!
I used a cheap pair of canvas rubber sole shoes. I cut the material away leaving holes already in the sole. I really like this pattern.
Jude Vucovich how many holes round for a size four
The holes were already in the soles. I used a size 8 shoe
kim tomlinson Kim; If you haven't been answered, watch her tutorial on how to create moccasins. She spaces 1/4 inch apart. Lexiee Love how many holes for a size 4
my first project ever was a pair of simple fold over slippers. only after a few months they've developed holes in the soles. New project accepted!
Using this for the weird shoes I need for cosplay. (i.e. knee-length bright red boots with yellow soles.) It'd be perfect.
Im so happy for the tutoriols. Im not great at reading patterns. YET
I freaking love you! You are an amazing teacher and easy to follow! Thank you for being the bomb=)

These are brilliant - both stylish and easy, thank you for sharing :-)
Thanks for a great video tutorial! These are going on my list for Christmas gifts! :)
I would use a different color flip flop for tutorial purposes, since black is tricky to see, but great work!
omg!! I finally found this video on Facebook I can't believe that i found this video
I love this pattern

What are you talking about? The yarn isn’t black! 🤡
@@Thefluffytututhe first round was, when she was going through the sole.
I wish the sole was a lighter color. it's really hard to see the holes in the black sole

Pinterest ...she uses a light coloured sole
I agree during the tutorial, but darker soles will hide to holes when the shoe is done.

Light color yarn would’ve been nice for tutorial. Especially for older eyes like mine.
Definitely want to make these are they water proof ?
Hi, I use an ice pick! Nice handle ... found in any kitchen tool aisle.
Hi. I love this. Could you please tell me whether you also have a tutorial for the yellow slouch socks you paired with these amazing boots?
Thank you.

Im also wondering the same thing. Even with a smaller size flip flop the boot seems to be on the bigger side. How can I make it fit smaller ?
I absolutly love this
Everyone’s asking for tutorials. Click her link. You’ll find 4 short video tutorials for making these.
How do you mend a torn hole that the thread was pulled through the side of flip flop?
In video you show for a size 7 8 how many holes for size 910 is it same amount of holes just spaced different

Perhaps using a lighter color flip flop for demo purposes will allow us to see easier.
I made the breckenridge boots for my girls. They love them!
Can you continue using the worsted weight yarn to make the boots or does it have to be the chucky yarn?

Love the pattern. I have some worsted weight yarn I want to use. If I used 2 strands, would it be about the same size?
Hi, thanks for the video. You explain really good. I had a question, the sole I'm using for my boot is really thin. Probably a third or fourth the thickness of an average flip flop. What I use is a pair of Dr. Scholl' s
Oops! Dr. Scholl's foam liners.

Hi I would like to make some of these but I am a size 4 in kids would I make them the same way?
Knitting niddle works good to poke the holes.
Will this pattern work for children??
Thanks for the video, you need more light on top to see the stitches
Vert good idéal!
But it easier to follow with a clear color yarn.
What if the sole is a bit more thick does that matter
Can u show in different colour different from sole colour

Why do you recommend to use one size smaller flip flop?
I am going 1 size up not down I don't want my foot hanging over the sides of the boot
That's what I was thinking, but video said size down.

How much yarn is needed?
Two skeins of heavy yarn and an unspecified, but small amount of thinner yarn that matches the sole of the shoe.
The sole and yarn is so dark, I cant see anything
I'm sorry, but what were the hook sizes
D , K , L

awesome what was the name of the sharp tool you used?
You can use a skewer.

A lighter yarn would have been much more adequate if not the flip-flops.

How much is one third inch in centimeter ?
You can make them about a centimeter apart.. It's like 1/8 or 1/9th centimeter
Could someone make these for me?
Heather Cohen I can
Tiffany Geier really?
Heather Cohen yep. Let me know what size, you'd have to pay for them.
Tiffany Geier definitely would pay. How much?
Heather Cohen let me look into materials and get back to you
That yarn would ripe right out of the sole of the flip flop. That's a really bad idea.
Did you even watch the video? The Thick-n-Quick doesn't go into the sole. She uses a worsted weight yarn that matches the color of the flip flop sole for that foundation row.
