- Francis Buckley. Grammy winning Audio Engineer. All round great guy. Project studio fairy godmother?
In Studio Rescue we join Francis as he visits a range of home studios and combines the fundamentals of acoustic science with a few hard-earned industry secrets to get the most out of the available space.
Join Francis in this episode as he visits the converted guest house of Steve Lesema. Despite having a fairly nice setup with a light acoustic treatment Steve is still unhappy with his mixes and calls on Francis' help.

this was such a long commercial.
I would be sanding that glue off the wall and painting the room something other than depressing grey.
bruh, he took down acoustic panels before video
To get some free new ones
i honestly put my home studio together watching these videos... even tho not everything is perfect, i still appreciate and thank you guys for these studio rescue videos
Great to hear Edgar!
Can you guys try to be nicer to your "studio owners" because they worked hard on Those Studios and he basically called it trash
RØDE Microphones come help me with my studio!
PLEEEO z
how about painting the that room before setting up a studio lol....
Frisson i know, it would change so much XD
Frisson Not going to lie, my studio was this exact color before and it was so difficult for me to stay inspired. The room was so grey and dull that my brain was having trouble to get creative. It was just a very depressing atmosphere to be in, as silly as that might sound lol, so one day I got sick of it and painted it an actual color and immediately felt more creative and less like I was locked in a prison cell. 😂 Best decision of my studio life. Haha
Exaaactly!!!!
It's 3:30 am, and I just painted wall 3 of 4 (minus the second coat) of my (now torn apart) office that I'm changing into a music studio. The walls were white, but now will be (insert any totally awesome color here to suit your imagination!), and it's WAY radical totally tubular far-out gnarly funky fresh brah!
2017 and here I am in love with all of these Studio Rescue episodes.
After seeing some episodes i was really surprised when he brought the mic to give to him!
Still took me by surprise in 2021
Wow. You can already hear the difference after installing first acoustic panels. Good video.
He could t removed that glue 😂 he thought nobody was going to notice he had treatment but he wanted new ones 😆
he removed all wall panels before Francis came to his house. And Changing the paint is a good idea , it will look good. Trust me the ears matters the most.
Kinda
+☆ TheLastTerrarian Walls say that
yeah ik
+Ayon Manna he also says that in the video
+Ayon Manna No man. Francis told him to remove it. So he can put the "good shit" o nthe wall. Product placement. Francis is full of shit. He sold his soul to the franchisement sponsor.
More episodes please!!!
Homemade rockwool sound panels seem to work better than acoustical foam...
Yes it does
Mine certainly do. And they are cheaper. Also, creating a four of equal depth behind the panel makes a big improvement to the efficiency.
Is rockwool safe to use at home? I hear they cause breathing problems.
@@akramhosen5116 I wouldn’t want it or fiberglass particles circulating in my studio.
I’m still shocked they allow fiberglass ductwork in homes..
Make More Studio Rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is a great idea, they should put this in TV also
Francis Buckley seems a really nice and knowledgable guy...
Wow !! these videos are the best thing that exist on youtube about mounting home studios and sound treatment! because the way to explain it is very accessible to all! It is spectacular! Francis, I'm from Portugal and could even pay you to come here to rescue my own homestudio! Amazing! Thank you very very much !!!
I love way you are working
I just have to play mr cynical beyond his years here for a second...I can't help myself...but I always get a kick out of the awkward "greeting and setup on camera" acting in videos like this...."hey...we just....met......you and your....crew haven't already been here for an hour setting...up the segment and discussing how we should do..." I love it
Yup. Hate that intro. Looks too fake. But its a nice segment.
Well they've already know eachother through email conversations etc So it will never be as organic as you may want or expect it to be on screen. Anyhow what about majority UA-cam video's even gold diggers vids are logically all fake, the only time it's real is when something goes wrong etc someone gets hurt which hardly gets uploaded as it hurts the prank vid hussle I guess, we all know what majority public is like with random confrontation, unless you're doing pranks in a church setting things will always go wrong so for all who calls bs on these simple help videos, I call the highest bs on most videos on UA-cam you actually still think is organic.. These videos are as organic as you can ever get and what we can or must get from them is that some of us may move to another house with smaller space so it gives us help on what table and equipment we can fit when move etc what to pack away and what to keep out/maybe sell if not needed anymore
Good stuff. Simple, straightforward tips - thanks!
These videos are just so great! I love you personality and sense of humor
i love this
love this channel a lot, thx
This is a great, what a blessing!
Truly a blessing
I wish this series was actually on TV...
studio rescue come this way
Put this in TV!! Plis!! And come to Mexico!!!
love it,
That was awesome!
I have experience with that particular microphone and it is a true performer and also pretty sturdy and as far as Francis he is all about the sound...
I love what you guys are doing....only thing is ......i wish they had a team like you guys in South Africa.....keep it up!!! Awesomeness!!!!
@TheAdiel2010 Francis is wearing the limited edition M1 t-shirt, which was offered exclusively to readers of TapeOp magazine in 2010. RØDE will soon be launching an online store to allow direct purchase of our shirts, and we do have a small handful of these left that will also be available.
Wow Wonderful Rescue
Keep these videos coming Rode!
Thanks Francis for the video! Barring the room aesthetics, there is some really useful information here. Wish I could get my room rescued. Good luck Steve!
This show is awesome. The guys at Rode know how to carve a niche. Kudos!
Great movie
Awesome Francis!
So good sir I learn more
Wow you should see my shamble of a home studio. We would make the best episode ever! And i could so appreciate your upgrades and help and advice because i am stone broke!!!!
Very helpful thanks
Brilliant Stuff,Wisdom That You Have I Envey You
Only God knows how much I want this Mic..... I really lobe it...
the paint job in that room makes me wanna walk in there with a roller and some dulux
The panels behind the desk are useful in order to catch any excess sound leaving backwards from the speakers. They are also placed there in order to diminish extra sound that moves around in the room (just like the panels on the other walls). The panels in the corners are called bass traps and they are put there in order to diminish the energy of bass frequencies which tend to travel along walls and get caught up in corners. Hope this helps!
very nice and simple
Good Sound stuff! Thanks
This is nice setup skill
You wouldnt be able to tell the difference. Its mainly for whoever is sitting making the music. So they get a balanced idea of the sound they are making. Thats why they did the whole triangle and angle of reflection part. So when he's sitting there he gets the optimal playback for that space.
"MUUUM! There is a Man In My Room Rearranging Everything !
im also picking up a lot of tips...thanks guys!!!
Man I’m so glad I’ve stumbled over this video, 'cause...I’ve been thinking to setup my own studio...
Nice mic you got! Got one myself, it's cool
came in and moved a desk and put some panels in, and gave him a great mic, way to go!
Nice Episode really helpful
such a great idea!!!! i was thinking about that, and it would be a great thing to do, and would be great for the show!
At 30 seconds so far and his studio size is almost exactly the same as my plans - I'll keep watching :-)
it is meant to wobble so that the mic doesn't catch any vibrations coming from the stand.
OMG what an amazing job you guys did I would love for you guys to rescue my studio it’s barely treading water and in desperate need of help. Please help me and my studio. Keep up the great work and the amazing videos and even better products! Truly inspiring video faith in humanity has been restored.
Actually this is the 2nd coolest guy I encountered on this show.
love it & it helped me out so much life saver they should call u!!!life studio saver LOL
very good....
very cool!
Where can I sign up to help save my studio??
Nice video, and also I loved the Brazilian flag, 👏👏✌️✌️
exactly, never fails
Very well acted 🤣😂🤣😂
If he painted the walls silky white and put some rgb lights in the corners on the floor and ceiling that would seriously look awesome
Muito bom eu gostei 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
wtf...his "studio" looks like its inside a prison cell
motorheadbanger90 sad thing is my studio is the same size!
motorheadbanger90 LOL
hahahahahahahaha jst realize it
+BuddyJesusSmokes not about the size. Lighting and the paint matters
+motorheadbanger90 Reddit's founder Aaron Swartz, one of the smartest guys out there, said that working in an ugly environment makes for a productive environment. I agree!
This dude owns $1600 UAD tube compressor and doesn’t know anything about room acoustics I call bs.
People are dumb bro
some people have more money than common sense
@Manurightboy MR Never have I seen someone spell "Maybe" like that. Is english not your first language?
That room is entirely too small. He's going to have all kinds of low frequency issues. It also looks like it's a square, which is the worst for acoustics. He needs a bigger room.
As far as the treatment they are using, foam doesn't do anything for low frequency problems. So sticking foam in the corners is kind of silly.
@@user-lg8in8kn3x maibi he speaks 2 languages..
Francis I LOOOOOOVE that shirt bro :)
I really enjoy your show, I’ve learned a lot and I actually saved my studio using your techniques.
I cannot believe that you didn’t take a little extra time and help him, or even just have him, paint the room. It would’ve made a huge difference in the aesthetic, but hey that’s just me.
What I mean is, to do it right now he has to undo all the great work that you did, instead of just painting it for an hour, going out for a pizza to let it dry, and coming back to finish the show.
Just a thought maybe for future episodes.
Thanks again, Steve
PS, my father was a mathematician and would never let us say heighTH...It’s ‘height’ 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
how do I get your advise on my room ?
right on... that was so obvious in this episode to move that station to the new spot..
Hello! This is a helpful video for HomeStudio design! One question: Can you please give me the address where I can buy these room foam panels? Thank you very much. Best regards
I need a Studio rescue bad😕
Nice video. Can you tell more about the bass trapp in the video? It looks quite original! Thanks. Leo
Whats up with the sound at 2:40 haha
Spirits hahaha
ahahaha, sounds like a spaceship took off or something ahhaa
Love this entire series! Wish Francis could rescue MY studio before I redo it. I could sure use his expertise! The new Rode mic is very cool. I own an NT-1. Where can I find the room treatment material that Francis is using, along with the Mic isolator?
LOL. I have the DSM monitors. They're great!!!
excelente programa, me sirve mucho pero existiria la posibilidad de traducirlo al español? gracias y sigan asi.
Once again the best video's ever to grace UA-cam.
Could still make it to terrestrial/digital tv.
A loudspeaker doesn't just loudspeak to the front, there's also some sound coming out of the back of it. It's hitting the wall and coming right at you, and because the distance is very short, the reflection is nearly in time with the dry signal. So you hear that reflection as a part of your music and you can't do the right decisions when mixing, because you're not hearing what your music actually sounds like.
Hey Rode, damn, your NT1 is *super* sensitive. I overheard my neighbors talking smack about dogs pooping in their yard through my walls. I heard it through my headphones direct monitoring but not when I took the headphones off. So weird. My AT2005 never picked up my neighbors before lol!
listen to them talk in the beginning of the video and compare to the end where the room is treated. You can tell with that.
I have yet to see him put up some diffusers.
were do you get those panels ?
I thought you were exactly not supposed to put the desk dead center in the middle of the room? nodes, standing waves, and other mysterious phenomena focusing in the center.
Where could I shop for the equipment in Laval Quebec for mixing tunes with in my budget?
What do you use to attach the acoustic treatment panels to the wall? I'm looking for something that won't tear the paint or make a mess on the wall if I ever needed to move the panels.
Why did you put panels on the wall behind the monitors?
*Greetings from Slovenia*
ooo amigão vem para o brasil presiso de sua ajuda abs a toda wquipe e fera de mais DESU ABENÇOE A TODOS
would the rode work with the Avid Duet or quartet?
I live in a studio, so there is no bedroom I can utilize. the space is pretty decent but my speaker placement is in the middle of the room with no backwall. the monitors are JBL LSR2328P. should I move them close to the wall to gain some of the lowend?
Its from an online store called Thoman.
How did he glue those panels i mean with what kind of glue ?
haha thats what i thought too :D but i find some of his tricks like the mirror moving along the wall, a pretty good idea ;) so there are still some little tricks in these episodes^^
you can listen to it, in the begining with the reflections with the mic , very "wet" For a room , and than at the end with the wall foam did it sound way better lol
If you go to musician's friend .com , and type in home studio desk, there are a bunch of options to choose from, I think the one in the video is also included.
how much do you change to do a room ? and do u travel to EU ?
