I'll stay on 20mm bases for the army I'm currently building and all future armies, but the most modern models I'll ever own are 20 year old or older sculpts as I vastly prefer hand-sculpted models to new ones, even better if they are in metal, from the golden age of GW. I'll play 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd ed with my armies too. The obvious answer is to either not care about the size difference as it gives both pros and cons or I'll use converter trays but for those I'll need to find a solution that both looks great and is easy enough to remove models from. I'm working on Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts and Undead armies so plenty of fragile skeletons which I don't want to have to pull hard from the tray as you have to do it by pulling from the model. Probably has to be some magnetic tray for that... I'll see, will take me still a couple more years to finish my first army to a level I'm happy with so I imagine things will have settled by then!

One thing that would be a great addition to the conversion trays already on offer would be converters for oval cavalry bases. It's a weird shape, but the new Saurus raptors and any AoS cav models that have been released since the start of that game would work in ranks *much* better with some of those...
My issue is that the AoS round bases for Saurus Warriors are 32mm now, but 30mm according to the Warhammer community article. There is only so much luck one can have with ripping them from the bases again without leaving a claw behind. How am I supposed to fit 32mm bases into a movement tray that requires 30mm bases? I think my sharp blade is gonna do some cutting again.
Rebasing is a waste of time and risk of damaging the beautiful bases many already have. GW said even in tournaments as long as you use a base converter you are covered for tournament play.
I aint rebasing nothing. If my opponent thinks thats using classic base sizes is a deal breaker I wont regret not playing either. They should have gone the same way as old Epic 40k did, giving you minimum/maximum base sizes i.m.o. 6th still rocks anyway 🫡 Hope the games rocks at least as much 🤞
I would also suggest making individual base upgrades, such as 20 to 25 mm, 25 to 30 mm, 25x50 to 30x60, and so on. I have many old models that I would love to upgrade this way.
Thanks for the showcase guys! I just ordered an embarrassing number of these conversion trays. Please could you also print the 25 round into 25 square in 2x5s? Also ranks of 7, please? Many thanks!
Yeah they are but it's a negligible difference. In the beginning of Mountain miniatures next to latest video (empire vs WoC learning video) they compare the two
Will you be making Converters for Square and Rectangular to Round and Oval bases? Taking 25x50mm rectangular bases and converting them to 30x60mm oval bases. The only vaguely noteworthy alternative ruleset this breaks is Kings of War, and Mantic have almost a decade long tradition of clumsily aping everything GW does so I am 100% certain they will change their basing system accordingly in their next edition. Other modern fantasy wargames are already using 25mm as baseline for humanoids (Saga, Oathmark) or are completely base-agnostic (Warlords of Erewhon) or use completely proprietary models and basing that makes porting over other miniatures virtually impossible (Conquest and whatever Privateer Press is doing these days).
But you can still play other rulesets just fine, or am i missing something? For once i actually don't believe this was a completely cynical move by GW. The old bases where just too small for most minis, and this was the chance to fix it.

that is my battle, i love the change, but I dont want the work ye rebasing with converters looks nice and new... but you loss flexibility and you will most of the time play with the base converters you select (or buy all possibilities) and that is sad and rebasing without converters...looks pain (and more for the ones that have supports like my chilvary or my metal figs) there are some 1x1 converters out there,,, that might be the solution ...but atm they sell them 1 by 1 just for heroes and buy 200 is not cheap
Is there a place we can see for sure what new sizes we'll need? I have a lot of old High Elves I need to rebase, and would like to start working on that before the 20th when it launches so I could theoretically play a game on launch day. Like, sure, I've seen the list of what the new base sizes are, but is there a "Lothern Sea Guard are 30x30, Archers are 25x25" anywhere? (I know there will be in the rulebook, but since that's not out yet, doesn't help for preparing in advance).
my understanding is that all elf infantry will all move to 25mm x 25mm, and Elf cavalry will be moving to 30mm x 60mm. don't know the chariot and monster/monstrous cav bases offhand, but yes they are larger than prior editions from what I've gathered.
I'm not interested in Fantasy myself, but man it is SUCH a strange and confusing decision to change the base sizes... It's the worst of both worlds imo. If you have your old Fantasy models to bring back out, they're on the wrong size. If you have the models for AoS and put them on round bases, still wrong type.
Same here. I played through Fantasy back in the day, had my fun, but I’ve got no desire to go back. AoS is so much more what I want for my fantasy setting and game, personally.
@@malekiththeeternityking5433 No need to be a toxic commenter here. I was just stating my opinion per the video. People responding in this way does not make me want to join the community at all.
So your mini wargaming forge has 5 wide, 6 wide, and 8 wide movement tray converters... ...what about 7 wide? I have 35 eternal guard that I at least want to display as 7x5 in hopes of one day playing a really big game... (specifically I was looking at 25mm round to square)
Honestly depending on the unit/army it’s actually a nice help. Orcs and Goblins in my experience have a lot of units that you have to be careful with or they won’t rank up correctly on the original base. Even the monopose boys from the old starter box would bump into each other with how they were posed. Black orcs especially with the banner and musician will benefit massively going up in size. Won’t rebase anything already painted, but I’ll happily keep any “new” additions to the army on the intended base.
Rebasing is super important for the new rules. It's a lot less devastating when a dragon breathes on your unit and the unit has a bigger foot print. Just one example.
No. We already have amazing editions of WHFB written by Rick, Tuomas, Andy, Bill and Alessio that have stood the test of time to play, that require nothing. Use your old, good minis for playing old, good editions.
Absolutely crazy not to use the conversion movement trays. In particular for the AoS models. I’d be fascinated to know what the percentage breakdown of people who will play only one of the fantasy systems as opposed to both.
Need to rebase? NO! Don't even get new army books, they'll just invalidate them in half a year anyways, like they always do, and it's not like their army books are thoroughly playtested anyways or even balanced to one another. Power creep for the win, right? Nah man, if I want to play WHF I still have plenty of 8th ed books which are FINE! Salty? Who? Me? Nooooo!
Whatever you say, whatever you think, I'm not changing my bases. I can't be bothered. Especially as geedubs will probably stop supporting this game, and all the morons will then stop playing it because they can't do anything without a malicious corporation telling them what to do.
I will use spacer trays.. No way I'm rebasing for the Old World because i play Oldhammer, Kings of War, and other games that use the traditional 28mm models, I'm super uninterested in these 34mm heroic models they produce these days for AoS. Secondly, I'm not convinced The Old World is going to succeed because the models are stuck in the nineties. Many of us have 3d printers and don't plan on buying GW models because newer high res resin printers are really fast particularly using ACF and the quality meets and occasionally exceeds GW sculpts these days at a literal fraction of the cost. Why do we need GW at this point? The hobby is moving on and so they will lose a lot of sales due to 3d printing. The old word models aren't the only thing stuck in the ninties.. looking at you GW business model, I think they will experience the same exact issues Hasbro is experiencing in under 5 years, its just a question of time.
After being depressed by the trash "new" rules that are just going to turn off potential players (somehow even MORE rules than the prev. versions whose 100+ page rules destroyed the game's expansion); after being enraged by the stupidity of setting it "in the past" rather than the "present" pre-End Times era that Total War fans will expect and indeed be exclusively attracted to (they WANT to play Karl Franz etc) ... after being brutalised by the bizarrely high pries for old 1998-2003 miniatures... And being hit over the head with the reality that realistically you'll need 3 books to truly play your army .. after the revelation that Warhammer was never about the bloated ruleset: it was THE IP; and Old World is missing 44% of it.... this isn't Warhammer is it? After all of that, it's a hard pass from me and I suspect a silent majority. It's a pump-and-dump dead on arrival nostalgia money-grab and, yes, I'll support it because I want to support the IP and it's worth supporting Mini War Gaming, but.... it's just sad what GW did.

ye rebasing with converters looks nice and new... but you loss flexibility and you will most of the time play with the base converters you select (or buy all possibilities) and that is sad
and rebasing without converters...looks pain (and more for the ones that have supports like my chilvary or my metal figs)
there are some 1x1 converters out there,,, that might be the solution ...but atm they sell them 1 by 1 just for heroes and buy 200 is not cheap
Man i was going to put my BoC on round then use converter but something about square bases are sexy. Prob because i been playing so much conquest
They posted it on the official old world Facebook page
I believe chariots stay the same.
There are lists from GW on facebook, and they have been posted elsewhere as well, such as reddit. Might even be on warcom, im not sure
Book of grudges has a 20 min ish video about this if you prefer that
guys, why don't you have single base Converters? What if you want to change formation mid game? Single base converters please!
Working out it. :)
Even though I'm not really interested in Rank and File games I would give The Old World a shot if I didn't have to rebase my AoS armies.
Can't you just design a group base that fits the old model bases but spaces them so they have the same unit number and foot print as the new.
No interest in TOW myself, so I won't have to worry about it. :)
Age of Shitmar players be like
That being said, those are some nice trays you guys have made. I'll need to take another look at the Forge!
@@tenshimusouka5820 "The AoS lore is so much better you guys."
im just making my own trays out of foam, but im not rebasing my chosen from 40s to 30s lol.
The answer is no. I'm not doing it.
can i use aos bases but in new square trays? (New to fantasy)
Note to self watch the rest of the video first haha
lol that works too! ;)
Yes you can, but depending on the armies and units you may run into a situation where the AoS base is larger than what is supposed to be the ToW base.
I believe my pink horror base size shrunk
So your mini wargaming forge has 5 wide, 6 wide, and 8 wide movement tray converters... ...what about 7 wide? I have 35 eternal guard that I at least want to display as 7x5 in hopes of one day playing a really big game... (specifically I was looking at 25mm round to square)
We are adding those this week. :)
Is there a link to the conversion trays?
miniwargamingforge.com/collections/rank-and-flank-movement-tray-converters
Wow how are you resin printing those bases without warpage?
The larger ones have supports throughout to keep them from warping. It took some trial and error but James nailed it!
Imo the proper bases in the tray just look better
this is great!
I want to play 3rd and 6th and maybe even some other editions so just using trays.
I’d be fascinated to know what the percentage breakdown of people who will play only one of the fantasy systems as opposed to both.
why aren't they making skaven a proper race. bad enough GW killed WH-Fantasy in the first place, but this is adding insult to injury!
Glory to the Horned Rat
Yes, rebase them to multibase and play Kings of War instead!
Salty? Who? Me? Nooooo!
imagine people rebasing their armys for aos then rbasing the same models for tow.
No.
So for ovel bases, you make rectangle bases that fit inside ovals, instead of putting ovals on too large square bases.
Can´t hear what the "experts" are saying i the video...
Never hopped into the age of smegmar bandwagon... so no. Square supremacy!
Did the age of Sigmar penalize you for playing with square bases every time I've ever tried to play it, people didn't really care.
Shop app's download link after buying pops up a NOT SAFE download for android. Heads up.
That is strange. It’s just a zip file filled with STLs. I made it myself.
@miniwargaming I just downloaded on my computer when I got home. :) Android not liking Shop app.
Whatever you say, whatever you think, I'm not changing my bases. I can't be bothered. Especially as geedubs will probably stop supporting this game, and all the morons will then stop playing it because they can't do anything without a malicious corporation telling them what to do.
Shut up and take my money!
short answer. No don't rebase your models this game will die just like it did after some old school guys get their nostalgia fix.
Nope 😇
Lol definitely one big advertisement... still a cool conversation.. but cmon everyone, rebase your Minis!
