I will choose an Apple refurbished M2 pro over the M3 base model, 8GB Ram in 2024 at 1599$ is a BIG NO for me Even if the M3 chip has the latest technology

TOTALLY agree on every single word.
14'' M2 Pro is the best value, absolutely.. After a year of extreme use, I am still impressed by the performance.
By the way, 112 charge cycles, battery health 100%.

I just bought MBP 16 M2 Pro with 16GB RAM. Newer M3 Pro model costs 3125$ where I live, but this model was 1915$... The difference of 1210$ is huge considering they're almost identical to me. So it was a no-brainer.

I had the same doubt but ended buying a second hand M1 Pro for almost 50% less than the M3 pro. It still has the performance that I need without break the bank.

I just bought the M2 MacBook Pro 13.3 with 24 gb RAM and 1 TB ssd for $1300 from BestBuy. I have a 16” M1 Pro Max and I don’t see myself needing an upgrade for several years but it is a goddamn elephant. The 13.3 MBP is as light as an Air, gives me my beloved touchbar, 3 times the ram, 4 times the SSD for only a couple hundred more compared to the base model M3 Air so I jumped on it.

    • @ReyesInspirationalHaven

How you liking that MBP? I’m picking mine up in a few hours. Trading in my 2nd iPad Pro for it for work.

    • @jackwestcott4469

@@ReyesInspirationalHaven It’s dope and carries the same workload as my M1 Max without any hiccups. I mostly got it to keep my top wildlife photos and videos on the computer rather than an external SSD which is where the 1TB is great and the 24gb RAM lets me edit things just as smoothly as the M1 Max. I haven’t noticed any shortcomings because the computer just works but in any case, those specs at that price in a tiny body are unbeatable.

Im not too sure about the battery health issue. I have had mine since the day it launched and I use it quite frequently. My battery health still says 100% ( knocking on wood). The only issue I have had, is that I get the notorious crunchy sound in some of my keys. I have taken it to Apple many times and they have said that they were not able to find anything under the keys. They even use compressed air to blow the keys out for me whenever I take my computer to them. Then shortly after, the crunchy sound re appears. It seems to happen more when the computer is in a cooler environment. It is mainly the M, N and P keys.

Use a lower wattage charger that charges slower than the 96w that comes with the 14in. If you don't need to fast charge, don't.

I have an m3 air 15" 16/512gb and payed 1699.99 1800$ after tax. a day later found an m2 pro 16" for 1300$ with 2 years of apple care and 7 battery cycles. to me the 16" is an absolute no brainer, the air is thin light and arguably aesthetically one of the best looking imo. but the screen and size of it and the once in a while HDR video made it worth it. portability is fine for me on both. I don't edit video on an airplane tray. I go to a spot and set it on the table.

R.E. Battery Health - I've had my M2 MacBook Air since summer 2022. For the first year or so, it stayed at 99-100% BH. Then over the course of 2 or 3 months, it went down steadily to 92%, but it has stayed there for several months. In general, I think they tend to rest at 92% health for a while, so there isn't much to worry about!

I have the same issue with the battery health degrading quickly on my 14'' M1 max. After 6 months battery is at 95% health with only 41 cycles. Mainly using it in clamshell mode with optimised charging. It is connected to a studio display and the battery stays at 100% . Every couple of weeks I try to run it off of battery to discharge it, but as soon as I connect it to the display to do serious work (I cannot edit video on a 14''screen) it goes again to 100%.
I'm really worried that after another 6 months when the warranty expires the battery will need a replacement :(

      @kpetsas 2 місяці тому

@@ride_7492 I tried al dente, but I ran into an issue with the ultrawide monitor that I have at home (the studio display is at the studio). the issue is that if the battery is lower than 80% the connection with the monitor gets continuously interrupted. Most probably because there is not enough power supply through usb c to charge a low battery ....
      So I uninstalled it.

Except it doesn't when you need single core performance AND many cores... Which most programs do 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm an audio engineer, we need single core performance more than most cuz audio isn't really taking multicore performance (bunch of physics and technical laws)
An M3 Air might be able to run a better master bus chain than an M2 Pro (cuz a master bus processes all the audio into one track, which is one core) but even a binned M2 Pro will 1000% handle more tracks with more plugins on them. An unbinned M2 Pro is sweeping the M3 Air.

The only advantage of an M3 Air over a M2 Pro MacBook is in apps that only use one CPU core. This is because the M3 CPU cores are around 20% faster than M2 CPU Cores. Overall because it has more CPU and GPU cores the M2 Pro chip is far faster than an M3 chip. The M2 Pro MacBook is also likely to have a bigger SSD and More RAM which will also give the M2 Pro a performance edge. You will get even more performance if you buy a Mac that has an M1 Ultra or M1 Max chip because these chips have very large numbers of CPU and GPU cores. AI processing is also allegedly faster in an M3 but not many apps use AI.

You need to unplug your MacBook and let it discharge down to at least 20-30% then charge it back up to 100% every couple weeks. It’s not healthy for batteries to stay at 100% and be plugged in constantly. Look up how to prolong and the life of lithium batteries to keep them in a healthy state.

The price of a Refurb 8-core M1 Pro 14” MacBook Pro’s with 32GB with a year warranty from places like Amazon are about the same as a new 13” M3 MacBook Air with 8GB at this point. Used 13” M1 MacBook Air/Pro systems on eBay with 16GB are literally half the price of a new MacBook Air with 8GB and that’s the M2 one, not even the M3. For someone still using Intel desktop Macs from 2012 (3.46Ghz 12-core Mac Pro and 2.6Ghz quad i7 Mac mini), it’s never been a better time to be upgrading cheaply.
