Scarborough athletic played Esh Winning in 2008, the bus got stuck in the car park at the side of the ground. Three hours after full time we finally got away!
Some years ago, Durham City FC, were forced by the FA to play their cup games away from home. The reason for this was Durham FC had installed an artificial pitch at their home ground in Belmont, Durham. The FA would not sanction the pitch although league games were played there. Several Durham City cup games were played at Esh Winning and during one such game the match was halted as several sheep and a goat ran onto the pitch causing a delay. As you can see, Esh Winning is quite rural although I had no idea at the time where the sheep (& goat) had arrived from. The game was eventually re-started with no problem but what was annoying for the Durham Fans was that during the artificial pitch issue, the FA arranged a "political" friendly game between England and Russia. The game was played, not only on an artificial pitch, but, as I was told, on the exact same type of artificial pitch as Durham had installed. Farm animals stop play......how non-league football is that??
Can't really ever see them playing at any higher level.
Been their twice with Harrogate Railway in the FA Cup. Great club with a unique stand. Supporters and committee were smashing.
I think I remember driving through Esh Winning once.
It looks absolutely great. I've got to ask though. Why sneak around? Surely if you give someone from the club a shout in advance o]r go on a match day.
Sir Bobby did attend school in Esh Winning at what was then Waterhouses Secondary School.
