Humic Acid and Phosphorus

  • So many of you have been asking for this video, it seems like the time was right as we approach our overseeding and renovation time. Establishing a role of humic acid in your program is absolutely vital for ensuring and guaranteeing the best possible usage of phosphorus with your new seedlings. For many decades, the benefits of humic acid and it’s synergistic affect on phosphorus has been well noted. The links below will lead you to research studies done on the topic.
    Humic acid in a reacted form has the ability to unwind more complex metal ions that would otherwise attract phosphorus and bind it. It also has the ability to increase the mobility of phosphorus throughout the soil rather than have it be stuck to other organic compounds. In situations where organic phosphorus is being used as with biosolids, manures or plant-based fertilizers, humic has the ability to aid in the detaching of from the source material thereby making it available to the plant.
    Humic has some uniqueness in the way it can equally attract cations and anions. There is an equal balance in the way the polymeric compound works as it passes through the soil profile. What this means is that there is a wide variety of nutrients that will not be lost as they are washed through the soil colloid.
    For those of you who are new to the topic, it may be beneficial to take a look back on some of my previous videos explaining the difference between reacted humic acid and powdered or granular forms. It is so often that in the studies that show limited humic acid effects, a powdered or even a coating was used rather than actual reacted humic acid that has been broken free from its carbon source material.
    Bottom line here, always check the source. Do a little searching yourself. If something smells like crap, it probably is crap. Please feel free to check the links below and see for yourself.
    At the end of this video I mention a special that will be coming up on the Greene county fertilizer seeding pack available at yard mastery, Gci Turf services, and The Lawn Care Nut. We have extended to our awesome vendors a Special savings and are passing it on to you. The sale is online only and will start Friday morning August 28, 2020 and continue until September 4, 2020.
    Thank you all for the support and let’s get out there and make our grass green again!

    Fantastic video as always! Your talks about Humic bring to mind the “experiment” you did a while back showing your Humic in solution versus “soluable” Humic products. I can still remember how the other products fell out of suspension rather quickly. Your full disclosure is one of the reasons I work with your products, and your honesty is appreciated. The other reason of course is that they do truly work. My biggest regret, as far as lawn care, is that i didn’t take many before pictures of my lawn when I moved in last year. But the quality of my lawn now does have people stopping in front of my house to compliment me. I always suggest your products and take very little credit. Thank again. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I am a new home owner and started my work on my poorly maintained lawn (by the last owner) which basically had no grass and had only moss and weeds. I am in pacific north west, Seattle which has mostly cool and wet weather conditions. My lawn is shaded by trees which adds to the shade plus my lawn is north facing and hence it receives very little sun (except for summers). I added a french drain to improve the drainage of my lawn and all the efforts over spring did pay off to an extent. My lawn has clay based soil and hence I want to know the best way to condition the soil. Would you recommend tilling with compost or do you think top dressing with organic matter + humic acid would work ? FYI: I have become obsessed with lawn care and want the best looking turf in the hood :) Please help :)

Needless to say I caught the problem way too late and I have a huge dead area that has been overtaken by crabgrass this summer. I would like to overseed this area with zoysia seed before winter. Does granular humic wash away before it does its job, or build up in the soil and is useful over a longer period of time? Or something else?
    In sandy soils, do you generally see low levels of phosphorus and/or potassium? Or is it still highly dependent on pH and other factors that may hold those elements or let them wash away?

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  3 роки тому +2

      Granular will build, it will decay and leak some acid over a long period of time, but this is a very very slow process. You will build great opportunities for microbial population and aid in great CEC

    • @Lawncology

From your teachings you do mention that P can sometimes not be available. Should I put some P down even with this high reading because of the infancy grass seed stage?

    • @Lawncology

    I have 4 new gallons of Next products. Gonna give it a go. Just had my septic system replaced for 26K and the drought killed much of the hydroseed. After a quarterly water bill of $1700 I am still going to press on. I can't have bare dirt - and then just weeds.

    Hi John, I recently purchased the seeding/over-seeding pack for a lawn renovation I'm doing. I applied the seed and the 16-21-2 GreenPOP on Wednesday. I forgot to apply the RGS at seeding. Would you recommend applying the RGS now or wait until the 21 days post germination to apply RGS and 9-0-1? Also I'm using a futerra netless blanket on top of the seed and not sure if that will impact the RGS application.

     @Lawncology I always wanted to know if spraying a 15-15-15 compared to spreading a 15-15-15 granular which one would be more beneficlal? I asked on a few lawn discussion message boards and didnt get many responses. One person did reply and said "you needs lbs on the ground, so spreading is way better" Then I watched where you and mentioned @4:25 spraying phosphorus is more beneficial. Your thoughts? I liked the video, the flames made your face melt in and out ha

    • @Lawncology
      @Lawncology  3 роки тому

      This come down to soil/crop needs. It’s very easy to get equal amounts of pounds down with both analysis, but the liquid at a full pound would likely cause burn as it is already solubilized and therefore “hotter”. You will have a faster effect with liquid but would need to apply at more intervals if you were going for the exact same amount of pounds as granular. Typically you have greater efficiency with liquids and when you judge the turf by overall look and health, you would find that over the course of the season, you wouldn’t be applying as many pounds as granular due to increased intake efficiency of liquid. A 10lb of liquid 15-15-15 has the same amount of nutrients as 10lbs of granular 15-15-15

      @@Lawncology I just did some research on it and was pleased to see that it works with underground drip irrigation systems. I'm considering the rainbird xfs system. Not sure how long anymore until I renovate. Between soil and irrigation for 5k sqft I'm looking at 3 grand already. To do 15k is going to be probably closer to 12 to 15 as the backyard is worse. I'm thinking I need to start reaching out to some companies to see if they want to use my yard for marketing purposes to get it at least mostly paid for. Any experience there?

    I can't wait until the day some of your products make it into Ontario Canada. We have absolutely nothing like this stuff available on the market. 2-4D is practically impossible to get for Residential use. Haven't seen Surfactant's in any stores. Humic acid? ha good luck, not around here. It's why I have high hopes for your products making it to market here, Ontario basically crushed all herbicides for residential use, and none of the companies care to invest in more environmentally friendly things such as your liquid aerator. It's all strictly Scott's granulated crap.
