  • Finaly got out to do some fishing, it was great to get out. There was a good surf rolling in and not much to show like nice deep gutters and channels, but where i ended up near the creek looked promIsing, as it turned out the tide was ripping as i predicted so had to fish accordingly. Hope you all enjoy the video and like i always say if you are new to fishing hope you pick up a tip or two.

    It has been quite a spell since we last saw David. The biggest sighs on the beach were not from the sea running onto the sand, they were David's. His obvious joy to be out fishing again was apparent. Difficult fishing conditions still provided 2 very fat Salmon. Clearly, David was happy with his catch. It is hoped that we will see more of David's footprints in the sand & more of his excellent videos. My latest catch was a bream - 4" and just equal to the soft plastic lure I was using. But it was a fish!

      Wow Himderfella you hit the nail on the head, you have a talent with words thats for sure, cool. I will be doing more videos but it will be a bit up and down. The response I have received with my videos and this one especially is Awesome. Yep it was a fish your bream even at 4" better than a donut.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  5 років тому

      Hi Garry, my surf rod is 10ft long fast tapered 4120 blank, its can cast a 3oz sinker and bait easily. My line is 20lb braid you can use heavier if you like it will still cast nicely, my hooks are size 1\0 and my trace line is 35lb line. you can use a leader of 35lb nylon line from your trace swivel back to your fishing reel if you like, its a bit easier on your finger when you cast. copy my fishing and I think you will catch a fish. Cheers.

Some of the next lot will have to be smoked. It has been a good salmon season my mate has had a ball at port jetty and they have been every where else great fun for the fisho community. thanks for watching and commenting mate. I had a dog cock its leg on my bucket at normanville and it hit my pasty in its bag so the dogs owner put my pasty in a dog poo bag thinking it was ok. Ha Ha some people

I still have most of my shark gear but only ever caught eagle rays, skates, smoothies, and lost a big seven gill. When I started to fish for mulloway I caught quite a lot of sharks as a by catch. I once watched a guy getting dragged on his arse with Penn 16\0 he hooked a massive smoothie on a whole carp and when they gaffed it, it went ballistic and bent the gaff and was gone. Love watching your videos, teaches me and reinforces what I am doing correct too. So are northerly winds near sunrise or sunset and winter months best for catching the salmon at Waitpinga? What about from February to April - what would be good to target then from the beach if anything. It is a long drive for me so I want to get it right. Thanks, you are an awesome person to listen to. Always buy your bait. :)

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, North wind is very comfortable fishing at Waitpinga but I fish that beach in all winds and do well the worst times to fish down there is when there is a very big swell because it creates a very strong rip sometimes unfishable, best times crack of dawn and late in the afternoon also night time is good winter time can produce fish through out the day so spend a while there. If you fish the way I do you will do ok. there has been some good fishing down there of and on during the summer my sun in laws went down 5 weeks ago first light and caught 3 nice salmon and a couple of smaller ones but as soon as the sun rose they were gone. This time of the year start fishing for mullet also mulloway and you will also catch salmon trout and possible salmon. Parsons beach is also very good for mullet my favourite.

    • @lukeloop
      @lukeloop 2 роки тому

      @@davidsheldonfishing9726 Thanks for that, so I am assuming a swell above 2.5m would make it rough and I will take that into consideration too.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  2 роки тому +1

      @@lukeloop yep because you have a long drive for sure work on 2m and under until you get use to the beach, I look at Willy Weather for information it's fairly reliable, as you probably know the swell is bigger when the tides coming in, fishing the run out tide is as good as fishing the run in tide down there especially if your fishing a nice deep gutter.

Yes getting out has been tough I have been on a roll with problems as well as busy season with work, I lost my little dog to a medical issue that was sad she was 16 though, then my back went we have all been there and now my knee looks like I need a bit of a operation but it will be fine eventually and my shoulder isn't to good but it will get better think I'm getting old just turned 60 lol. But I have got lots on mind for videos so I will be back. You look after yourself to John Cheers David

      Hi Malcolm it was good to go fishing I nearly didn't take my camera but glad I did. My fishing rod is a Snyder glass 4120 10ft around 30 years old when I got home that night, I took it out of my car and the tip got caught in the tree when I was trying to get it out I fell over a bin and broke my rod BUGGER. Now I need a new 4120. Wilson Tackle do one so I will be looking into that. 4120 are terrific for this type of fishing or a blank very similar.

    Hi David
    I'm a recent retiree and a very new fisho.
    Although some of your videos are now 2+ years old, is it too late for a "newbie" to ask a question?
    In "Waitpinga Salmon bait fishing Pts 1 and 2", how far were you casting your line off the beach and into the gutters?
    (It was difficult to see from the video, and I'm keen to know, because in a week or two I'm heading down to Victor to "try my hand".)
    At least 60 years ago my later father took me fishing to Waitpinga (usually in the May school holidays), and he always managed to bring home a feed.
    I would love to be able to tell the kids/grandkids that I was able to replicate some of what he did.
    Many thanks (in advance) for any pearls of wisdom you can provide.

      Hi Frank, thats a nice story you have told me. Gee the fishing would have been good back then. it is still good at Waitpinga the only difference is that there aren't as many bigger fish as there were all them years ago, but it is still good for a feed. I generally get down on the beach mid afternoon and that time of the day unless it is a dodge tide the tide will be running out and generally you don't have to cast as far to reach the deeper water, the distance I am usually casting is around 30 meters you really only have to get your bait just at the back of the close in waves to avoid the churned up sandy water, and to make it that little bit easier head down when the wind is blowing from the north. Im happy to try and help any time and I would like to wish you all the best drifting back on fond memories and catching a feed of fish to tell the kids all about. Cheers David.

      @@davidsheldonfishing9726 Yes, my parents honeymooned at Victor in the early 1940s, so for the next 12 years or so it's where we always went for our May school holidays.
      I'm determined to see if I can emulate my father (who was also called "Frank"), so next weekend I'll have to try to live up to his name/reputation.
      We always stayed in a guesthouse in Breckan Ave for 2 weeks, and Dad fished at Waitpinga (or at the screwpile jetty if the weather was not good).

So most times I bait fish but always have my lures just in case. and yes like Robert has said it would have been tough if I just had lures on this day. thanks for your comment Robin

      @davidsheldonfishing9726  3 роки тому +1

      @@marcelchaloupka I have never used Alvey but know they are good always used spinning reels and overheads. Things have really changed over the years with reels and the introduction of braid now they make reels so small with heaps of drag strength capable of catching big fish no problem, this Daiwa Sol LT 6000 can be used for big fish and has quite a heavy drag so, not really for line under 20lb. I am very impressed with the 10ft Penn Prevail matched with my Sol it is so light almost doesn't feel right but it is. I bet the 12ft Pen Prevail is nice. Also 6000 reels in other makes like Shimano are much bigger than this Daiwa 6000 sol Lt which has a large spool but a much smaller body. Your Catalina is a very very nice reel and would be nice with the pen Prevail, I think the sol Lt might be lighter and half the price.
