    I remember catching squid in the late 1960s on a old squid jag baited with a peeled potato off Glenelg jetty, yet I had no idea they could be caught in the middle of the day. Great stuff mate, just shows you never stop learning, even when you think you know

      G'day mate, yes whenever the tide stops running is squid time and a hour either side also the dodge tide is good. I have plans of doing more squid videos including bait fishing with a potato. Gee times have changed. Thank you for your comment and watching.

      Hi Mate, yes the squid feed well at low tide as well as high tide they also feed well on a dodge tide which we get twice a month on the half moon cycle thats when we don't have much tidal movement for a couple of days in South Australia. I'm sure Jeanett or Bruce has helped you out. G'day Perry. The squid jag is a cheap one around 3 dollars, I peel the cloth off it doing that reveals the coloured foil underneath also the sinker simply pulls out when you do this. • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Robert, the no fishing signs are for no fishing on the inside of the boat harbour, they can be a bit miss leading. There is no body in charge of the boat ramp at present and boats are getting a free launch, the local council is going to take charge sooner or later the shop at the boat ramp is closed until whenever, things may have changed but I don't think so. Yes fishing is ok any where on the outside of the harbour, you could probably sneak a cast on the inside after seeing whats going on around there. All the best Robert and thank you for watching commenting and subscribing mate.

      Hi mate, yes nice rod this one, think I got it in the mid 80ies all original in pretty good nic considering the abuse my tackle has been through. its a Snyder custom series MT 6110 T\L
      not long ago I managed to get a brand new still in the plastic bag also still had Snyder tag still attached to the rod a FT 4120 cost me 300 dollars but I thought it was worth every cent, they don't make rods like that any more

    Great video Dave, we’re gonna head down there tomorrow to give it a shot. Do you know whether there’s any other species we can go for there?

      Hi Daniel, the squid may be a bit quiet being winter but you could still catch some. for fishing can I recommend float fishing because there is a lot of weed and rocks, if you use burly especially the one I make on my burley video you will see big Drummer and zebra fish, there are also leather jackets if you fish the bottom carefully with a light sinker also Tommy ruff may respond to the burley and possible snook late afternoon using small shallow dive hard bodied lures in pilchard colour. hopefully the water is clear that will be good. All the best Daniel Cheers David.

    Hello David, I am trying to figure out the name of your rig. " Floating squid ....(jack) hanging on a dropper loop " The question is how do you tie your rig ? I could see a double line to the squid and a single line to the weight ???

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Poh, firstly I tie a swivel on the end of my main line then I tie my trace line to my swivel I use 20lb trace line you can use what you like to use, then I come down about 30cm from that swivel and pinch the line between my fingers and slide my other fingers down about 60cm bring that point back up to your other fingers to form a 30cm loop keep hold of that point and wrap that loop back down your doubled line twice, keep hold of your line and bring it back through the eye you formed by doing that and pull it up tight, now you should have a 30cm dropper loop now continue down your trace line below that dropper about 70-80cm cut off at required length and attach swivel for sinker. then you can attach you floating squid jag to your dropper loop through the eye, just remove the sinker from a old squid jag and it should float, this way of fishing for squid is quite good when you get use to it.

    which part of wirrina is is this? is that the L shaped rocks near the port?

      G'day John, yes mate this is the L shaped rocks (break wall) near the port. When you drive in you can park any where except past the gate and climb over the rocks and have a fish you can fish any where on the break wall but we are not allowed to fish in the harbour thats a pitty. Good fishing.

    Hi David , just a question do you use light line for squid ? What’s the ideal line strength to use ie 15 pound or lighter. Cheers 🍻

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Ytanythinggoes, the line I'm using in this video is 25lb but 12lb-15lb is fine, bear in mind if you have to lift your squid to land them. Some people will say light is better. I personally think squid only have eyes for your squid jag and the line doesn't really bother them.

      David Sheldon Fishing , thank you , much appreciated, can squid be caught all year round or better in some seasons, ie summer as to winter etc.

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  4 роки тому

      G'day mate, squid fishing generally starts up in spring (September) and finishes late Autumn (late may) but some places you can catch squid in winter time i.e. Victor Harbour and Port Augusta are a couple of places I know of. Fishing is full of surprises though.
