I chuckled at your pronunciation of that little store - Snark Job. It's actually Snar (quick) Kjop (shop). The K and J blend together into a sound we don't use in English. I used to live in Stavanger and took the train from there to Oslo many many years ago. Great memories! Enjoy the rest of your journey!
So glad to see you two, Jenny and Andrew! I once had a bike, or shall I say the bike once had me , Norwegian wood(s). Soooo excited for the Southeast Tour ! Thank you for the videos !
having breakfast with granola and nutella and extra blueberries. beautiful view on your bikepack. hard thing todo is preparing unpack at the airport. nice film my friend
I truly love your bike touring videos. They are some wonderful experiences. They are encouraging me to do some bike touring in my own country, Belize. We do not have a bike path here but I need to make the best out of what we have. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Have you tried taking a small skateboard along. It will work great for transporting your bike when the bike is in the box and you need to carry it in the airport for long distances.
I don't think you could have asked for a better end to your European tour, the Norwegian scenery was just breathtaking👌All the best for your Asian tour, I'm looking forward to it! Fantastic series guys👍
Wow a super segment. I have been to Norway 3 times but never brought my bike. I think I might want to try that segment and really take time to go fishing along the way!
Just found this. Great stuff. Just wanted to mention that as ong as you find running water i n Norway, there really is no need to filter it. Naturally running water in Norway is even better than our tap water, which is already the best anywhere in the world. Thought it'd be nice to know if you ever decide to come back for some more bikepacking, or for anyone out there making plans to come here :-)
Nice Video! I’m so glad you didn’t skip the bike boxing. Great transition to Malaysia - Can’t wait to see what’s cook’n there. I’m sure it’ll be cheaper than 7 dollar cucumbers in Norway. Happy Riding, Yours Truly, RK from Bonn.
I rode the Rallarvegen route a few years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't have the video recording equipment you have. Mostly photos and videos taken with a phone. The impressions from the ride - amazing. I relive it watching your report. Thanks for the technically well-edited video. Bravo! What camera did you use to film this?
Hello. I watched a lot of your videos especially the ones in Scotland (it seams it was a tough part of your trip) but this episode is really gorgeous ! Such beautifull landscapes !!! Thanks. By the way: You passed near my place (between Paris and Le Mont St Michel. ;-)
Norway definitely had some of the most stunning scenery we experienced in Europe! And that's so cool - we love hearing that local people wind up watching our videos!
Instead of Upsete to Myrdal train station you should have cycled to Gudvangen, taken the ferry to Flåm and then cycled the Rallarvei from there. Much more scenic :D
What a great way to see my country. I have never done anything like that myself! Note to other foreigners: we don’t always have blue sky and sunshine like in all these UA-cam videos…
Fantastic way to end the tour! Norway is just stunning. Never really thought about touring there, but now it seems like a must-see! Looking forward to seeing your time in SE Asia. We'll be heading there next when we eventually leave Australia, so we can see it through your eyes until then!
Hi, I've been watching this video with great interest, as I, myself am planing to do the national cyckling route 4 from Bergen to Oslo in Norway next year. You mentioned not all tunnnels alow cyclists to pass through. My question is how many tunnels on route 4 / 5 from Bergen to Oslo are there that not allowing the cyclist? Also do you mind to share gpx file(s) from your tour for the section from Bergen to Oslo? Thank you for sharing your experiences.
In a nutshell, we stayed in the Schengen Zone for 90 days at a time and then spent 90 days outside of it (the Balkans, Ireland and the UK). We have a more detailed blog post about planning around the Schengen Zone here: www.rollingexistence.com/tips/schengen-zone-travel-plan/

We got them from a bike shop, they're just the cardboard boxes that the bikes are shipped in. Luckily in Norway the first shop we went to had a couple lying around. Sometimes we have to visit a few different shops before we find boxes that are a good size for our bikes.
It's december,25,2023 merry Christmas to you and your love ones from the Pacific northwest can you make a gear run down used may your journey be blessed.
It's a Melanzana Micro Grid Hoodie. They are awesome but they don't sell online anymore, you can only buy them in Leadville, Colorado. melanzana.com/product/micro-grid-hoodie/
We both carry several power banks, and we have dynamo hubs which help a bit. Sometimes grocery stores have outlets available, so we'll charge our stuff while we shop. We also used ferry/train station waiting rooms. We lucked out and found good bike boxes at the first shop we tried. Sometimes we have to go to a couple but it's never been a huge problem.
Really love following you. Iolan to do a similar rour next July August. Do you have a GPX track any tips and how were the midges ??? How did you manage to stay so long in Europe under Schengen rules ???
We have a blog post with more details and GPX track here: www.rollingexistence.com/routes/bicycle-touring-southern-norway/ We didn't have any issues with midges in late August/early September. The ticks were out in force though. We had to structure our trip around the Schengen Zone 90 day limit, so we stayed in the zone for 90 days then left the zone for 90 days in the Balkans, stayed in the zone 90 days then reset in Ireland and the UK, then rode up to Norway.
We usually get them on the fly so that we can stay pretty flexible. It's tough to plan very far in advance since you never know exactly how far you'll make it each day.
See also GPS Visualizer site too, if you’re interested in maps. It allows you see all the OSM, topo and satellite maps-all in one site. You just pull down a menu to switch maps. My favourite.
The bike is solid and my Ebike conversion went great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Very smooth ride at 30mph with no problems (135 miles ridden so far). The picture is a bit deceiving - there is WAY less space in the center of the frame than it shows. The suspension connection takes up the entire thing. So I needed to attach my battery on the bottom of the frame and my controller on the top. Instructions for assembly were lacking but honestly it wasn't too hard to figure out even though I have very little bike knowledge. Watched some youtube videos on adjusting the disk brakes but that was it. Still, I am loving it and very happy with the purchase.
No issues with assembly for me ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
Massive kudos for taking the proper way of Rallarvegen.

very good bicycle adventure tour
There is no praise high enough for this, one day you will be my age, looking back on these days with such great pride, well done both of you.
What a terrific video to support cycle touring in Norway. My favourite destination.
I've biked (parts of) the Rallarwegen twice now. Such stunning scenery. I like to watch every single video on it. Thanks
It's such a beautiful trail! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
はじめまして!UA-camのおすすめに出てきたのでたまたま拝見しました。

Definitely, it was an amazing place to wrap up our tour! Thank you, glad you're enjoying the videos 😊
Wow, I played this video on my large monitor and it's pretty spectacular scenery. Glad you had some sunshine to showcase this trip.
We felt really fortunate to have such good weather!
Superb video

جميل جدا رائع الرحله والدراجات احبكم I LOVEO YO😙😘😚
Just finished binge-watching this series. Great job! And I appreciate that you put a map of your route in each video, most cyclists don't.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the videos 😊 And thanks for mentioning the maps, we hoped they would be helpful for context 👍
Wow a super segment. I have been to Norway 3 times but never brought my bike. I think I might want to try that segment and really take time to go fishing along the way!
That sounds awesome! We were definitely thinking that it would be nice to have a fishing pole with us 👌
Such a great channel!

Haha, absolutely! We were so excited that we could eat out without totally breaking the bank, we might have gone a little overboard 😂
Great Video! Looking to get into cycling as I live in a prime spot for this....
I rode the Rallarvegen route a few years ago.

Wow, on to the next one, I'm curious to see if I recognise some parts of my Malaysia trip many (I mean MANY) years ago 🙂Enjoy the ride!
We spent quite a bit of time in Malaysia so I bet we went to some of the same places! Will be fun to see if anything stands out!
Probably a pretty safe country to bike across

norway most beautiful country in the world !! im sure
Great place to finish. Stunning scenery. Will be a contrast to Malaysia as will the weather.

What a great way to see my country. I have never done anything like that myself!

And BTW: you can drink from almost any stream that far away from people, no need to filter the water. Tastes much better than tap water!
We considered ourselves very lucky to have such nice weather!
Fantastic way to end the tour! Norway is just stunning. Never really thought about touring there, but now it seems like a must-see!
Looking forward to seeing your time in SE Asia. We'll be heading there next when we eventually leave Australia, so we can see it through your eyes until then!
We were really blown away by the scenery, it was definitely a great place to finish our tour of Europe!
Excited to see your Asian adventures.
If u need any cycle touring tips for japan we have heaps. Feel free to dm.

Terrific video!!! Spectacular. I was wondering how you guys dealt with the 90/ 180 day Schengen thing for your 14 months in Europe.???

What kind of wood burning stove are you using? I have a SoloStove which I love when wild camping.
It's a Bushbuddy, the Solo stove is a chinese knockoff of the same thing. Solos are great too though, not hating.
How do you take shower and how do you charge your electronic items while camping ? Greetings from india
Welcome to malaysia...i'm from east malaysia sabah north borneo
How did it go in the tunnels? Were there very many on your route? I'm considering part of this for a summer tour.
Beautiful video and countryside. How did you manage visas for 14 months in Europe?

When did you do these rides? I'm considering doing one myself.
We were in Norway from late August to mid-September and lucked out with mostly great weather 👍
Silly question:) What are your navigation resources?
We use OSMand with the Waymarked Cycling Trails overlay. It's amazing for bike navigation 👍
