  • We took a ferry from Sweden to Sandefjord and started the Norwegian National Cycle Route 2. This route followed lots of gravel roads and the high elevation Suleskarvegen through beautiful alpine scenery. We cycled along incredible mountains and fjords and found some great camping spots while bicycle touring southern Norway.
    We rode this section in August of 2022.

    Nice trip. I'm a long-term resident of Norway and live in Stavanger. Much of your route is very familiar to me. I think you took the wrong ferry when you ended up at Ombo :-) I'm really glad you visited the Telemark Canal. Beautiful ride from there to Dale, where I believe you stayed. I'm considering my first long bike trip in Norway this summer and appreciate the riding tips.

    Thank you for this video of your adventure in Norway. I visited Norway 3 years ago and kept thinking that I must bike tour it someday - it is just too gorgeous not to experience over and over. That bike tour is on my bucket list!

    Again, what a nice ride and spectacular way to end your tour. It seemed like you got rained on pretty much but those sunny days more than made up for it. By far, this was one of your best videos.

    Loved that wooden bridge at minute 2:47. I can just hear you guys talking all the time, “OK, now go ride and I’ll film you.” Then, “No, you go ride and I’ll film you.” Some serious tortellini there. Looked like it required significant elbow-grease to turn it. Your videos are always so chill. You should film a campsite argument to spice things up a little. That Stavanger footage in 4K was pretty awesome, too bad it was only a few seconds. As always great video, good luck, and great travels! RK

    Incredible filming both! Really enjoyed watching this. Thanks too for titling the places at the end, I'm not familiar with this southern area on Route 2 but I've cycled much of Route 1 up to Nordkapp over several long trips and I'm really fired up to try this route too in 2023. I agree with Rab's comments below - when the cloud and the rain settle in, it's really hard in Norway but when the sun is out, it's incomparable isn't it? Take care, and thanks so much for the stunning filming!

    Your photography is superb, and you really give a sense of where you are and what the journey is like. (There are plenty of vloggers who don't get the balance right, and put the camera on themselves too much.) I do wonder though how you can spend so much time in or heading to a place and not pick up the pronunciation (Hebrides, Cagliari, Stavanger, etc) - do you have very limited interaction with local people? Or not hear announcements on ferries and trains? Small point, and I'm sorry to make any sort of criticism - because these are great videos, thank you.

      We move fast through areas, entering a new town almost every day for coming up on two years now, so we're bound to make mistakes. On this trip we've been through areas where countless different languages, dialects and accents are used and we don't have time to get familiar with all of them so we tend to just read words as we would say them in American English.
      Our method of travel means we don't really get much contact with the local people. If we had a bigger budget and were moving slower we would spend more time trying to get to know the local culture and people, but unfortunately that just isn't feasible right now. Our kind of travel is a trade-off, we live off of $20/day each and we've gotten to travel all over the world, but it means sacrificing things like getting to really know an area. We tend to wild camp a great deal, and when we do talk to locals they're generally asking us about where we are from/our trip/what we're doing and town names don't come up. We mostly talk to one another and we get into the habit of just referring to place names the way we read them, which carries over into the videos. Now that we've got a bit of an audience we are working on getting better because we realize it can annoy people to hear us butcher the name of places they are familiar with.
      We're glad you enjoy the videos, and hopefully we won't make as many mistakes in the future!

    Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan.

    Amazing video, like always! I still wonder: how do you plan your routes? I see you cycle mostly on some cycling paths, how do you find those? Thanks and good luck in Asia!

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  Рік тому +1

      We use the OSMand+ android app with a map overlay from cycling.waymarkedtrails.org/ added that shows bicycle paths. Most days we use the cycling directions set to 'Balanced' so the app will try to route us on bike paths or dirt roads, even if it ends up adding a few miles over the more direct route. It's not always perfect though, sometimes the 'Balanced' route will be way too out of the way or have way too much elevation gain. Also we're glad you enjoyed the video, we always appreciate your comments Bogdan!

    Hi such a nice video. I'm planning a bike touring adventure in norway as well, but i'm a new beginner. So how much can i expect to cover of distance each day, and i'm not in a rush but ofcourse i do want to cover some distance. I was planning about 50 km each day 5/6 days a week, is that realistic?

    • @RollingExistence
      @RollingExistence  Місяць тому +1

      That's pretty realistic. We tend to average about 70-90kms a day with roughly 1000m of elevation gain, but we started out slow (50km a day) and built to that level. On flatter terrain we did upwards of 130km a day.

    • @RollingExistence

      We had a metal guard down under the stove, you can see it in the video if you look closely. The table was undamaged. We use picnic tables quite often and we always make sure to protect them from the fire.

    Bicycles, ebikes, electric cargo bicycles, robo taxis and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
    Reduced transportation costs and fossil fuels free transportation.
    Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing SAFE, PROTECTED BIKE LANES and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for health or ride for fun. Children should be able to ride a bicycle to school without having to dodge cars and trucks. Separated and protected bike lanes are required. It will also make the roads safer for automobile drivers. Transportation planners and elected officials need to encourage people to walk, bike and take public transportation. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. In the future cities will be redesigned for people not cars. Crazy big parking lots will be transformed with solar canopies generating free energy from the sun.
