So many good words. Thank you. I’ve written before about my wife’s cancer. We met in university. We had mutual friends all 4 years, but didn’t meet until three months before graduation. We married two years later. We expected many long years together. The week of Oct 9 2022 she was admitted to the hospital for abdominal pain. She said “Andrew, if this is the end I have no regrets. We had so many adventures together. We had a great life.” She died of liver failure due to metastatic breast cancer 51 days later. Like you, we traveled and had great experiences. We lived in West Africa as peace corps volunteers (similar to VSO) as well as in multiple places in the USA. I carry Anne’s memory as I travel now. I visited the Isle of Mull in October and shed tears in the shadow of a house Anne & I had visited 39 years ago. I bikepacked the Cairngorms solo and my heart ached to share stories & pictures with her. Yes life is short & unpredictable. Yes live it to the fullest Yes celebrate the time you have. And like Anne said to me, have no regrets.
Wow Andrew, such beautiful words. It sounds like your wife and you really lived life and filled it with adventure. It sounds so incredibly sad that a hospital visit for abdominal pain turned into you losing her only 51 days later. It sounds like you both explored so much and cherished those precious memories together. In some of parts of beautiful Scotland that we've also been lucky enough to explore. As you say life is unpredictable and we need to celebrate the time we have. Sadly none of us really know how long that is, good and bad in ways. But I hope to take the advice of you and your and have no regrets 💛 Thanks for sharing your wife's beautiful memory and some words I'll be sure to hold onto, especially on this journey.
The only upside to my (thankfully early diagnosed-unusually so for ovarian) cancer was that it bloody well shook me out of my scaredy cat ways - there is no reason not to be brave when you have faced your own mortality --- since then I have gone alone on art residencies in anarchist zones, got my fine art Masters degree and had solo exhibitions, remarried - to the love of my life and many other bucket list items - all in 5 years. Bravo to you both!
You both seem to have something really special. The kind of people everybody wants in their lives. Goodluck with it all, sad news about the cancer but great news on the otherside. I look forward to seeing more.
The jigsaw pieces have finally come together. It all now makes perfect sense. Wishing you both peace, love and safe travels. And that wave off at the end was so heartfelt and life affirming 🪷🪷🪷
Our wedding song (56 years ago) was “Live for Life”. We’ve been following that mantra ever since; only Antarctica and Oceania left to explore. Go for it ! P.S. I love your Dr Seuss quote.
Okay, this video got my emotions going all over the place. From jumping up with a huge smile when I got the notification, to being worried like a mother hen would be about the health issue , the sigh of relief that followed, the listening to all the life lessons you've mentioned, nodding my head in agreement ('cos I can confirm they are ALL true) and the - yep, I'll admit it- lump in my throath watching your loved ones waving you off... And at the end of this video I sighed, smiled and said out loud: GO,GO, Let's go!!! Let US go! (yes, US 😉) I'm ready and can't wait to witness all that awaits you on this magical journey 👋🏻👋🏻💋.
A real rollercoaster of emotions 🎢 on reflection, that really is how this period has felt. Even now, setting off there a whole plethora of emotions, excited to be going, sad to say goodbye, unsure where the road will take us. So chuffed you liked the video and that it gave you a grin when you saw it was live 😁 so excited to share this crazy adventure with you! Thanks for the support💛
Just returned from a short cycling trip of only 5 days with my tent and cooking gear through the Netherlands and Belgium. So good to have done this at 58 😊. Wishing you a great journey with your love deepening all the way ❤
Hi guys! What a lovely coincidence!! We are preparing our first bike trip and we are full of fears. We came across your story on UA-cam and it motivates us to continue with this project and hopefully, who knows, we will like it and we can have you as an example. If you pass through the south of Spain, do not hesitate to write to us, we would be very excited to meet you! Keep being together always! We wish you all strength and continue to fulfil your dreams! Hugs from Spain❤
Hello from the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada. I had almost the identical operation when I was 45. I'm happy to say I'm 81 now and still riding bicycles and motorcycles. I now have studded tires on an electric bike for riding in the winter, adventure riding never gets old. I wish you both many pedal strokes, smiles and laughter.
Dear Sarah and Josh! I was wondering why I haven’t heard of you for such a long time…. Now I know and are happy to see you in good condition after that difficult times! Thank you so much for this great summary of your lifes and journey ! Take good care of yourselves and! Love and hugs from Iris from southwest Germany
Yes we have been a little quiet but hoping all that can change now we're on the road 🚲 We thought some insight into how we got here would shed some light on all that been happening. Really glad you liked the video and thank you!
Life often throws a curve ball. In 2012 i lost an eye in a fishing accident then in 2016 i was diagagnosed with Bladder Cancer had treatment etc over 12 months. I do think while at the time i was very down but with some help of good friends and support it made me stronger stay positive. Always happy to chat love your films. If your ever down Cornwall you can always pitch up here all the best
Life certainly does throw some curveballs and it sounds like you've had a few come your way. As you say, I think it's important to roll with what you can and lean on your loved ones. Thanks so much for the kind offer 😊 will take you up on it if we're ever in the area
Cycling has been my life since the early 80s. And yes, I still watch cycling videos for entertainment and inspiration. Rarely have reacted as emotionally to a story as with this one. Wish you both the best. Hope our paths will cross again, even if it is just here....on UA-cam, with me on a dark train home, smiling with relief and hope for you guys. And hoping you are on your bikes as I still am...many years beyond your youth...Let me share the quote that kept me alive in my darkest times. "Get busy liv'n, or get busy dying..." (Red, played by Morgan Freeman in the Shawshank Redemption) Keep us posted you two!
You are the most delightful couple and deserve the very best in life. So glad you have had each other through the difficult times and are finally heading out on the adventure of a lifetime. Very best wishes to you both 🤗 Hope you make it to Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 in your journey and if you do, would be very happy to welcome you. Take care of each other and enjoy every moment.
OMG! Sing out if you guys are ever in New Zealand. We love our cycling. Grum has cycled around the world, and we've recently come back from cycling the Great Divide MB route in the US, and we've had that damn cancer thing to deal with too. We are in the South Island and host Warm Showers often. Come and stay, multiple times. Take care, Ju n Grum.
I felt the urgency to pray for you guys. Have no idea why. Now I know. So thankful we serve a Loving Father that looks after HIS children. Safe travel. Go well & GOD Bless. ❤
Hey guys - this is Ed from uni. Very sorry to hear about the diagnosis but so wonderful to see you both so happy and about to start your big adventure. Best of luck and maybe see you down the road sometime.
Magnificent!! Your filming/editing/colour/storytelling are exquisite! It will be a pleasure to follow this adventure - not least of which is the positivity with which you overcome hurdles great and small. I've never been more excited to leave for a trip I'm not going on in my life! Thanks for packing us all in your panniers ...
Fantastic video, Ill be watching you on this journey. I'm 65 and rode Edmonton Canada to the bottom of Baja last year. I'm returning in January to Loreto Mexico and will ride to Ushuaia.
Just found your channel with this video. If ever you needed to see what it takes just getting to the start line ... amazing, have all the fun out there and look after yourselves! 😊
Good luck with the trip and looking forward to viewing your adventures 👍don’t power wash the bikes, use a non pressurised hose, power washing will drive water into the bearings
Such a lovely video, you guys. Such a lovely couple, such great storytellers, and such lovely voices that tell those stories. Blessings to you on your journey. 🙏🙏🙏
Really emotional watching this lovely video, the positivity after such a difficult journey. I’m currently a few miles from your beloved Lakes home. The fells are still there and I’m grieving not being able to get out into them this visit. I just bought a new bike, more gears, smaller fatter wheels to amalgamate my on/off road exploring. I only started wanderlust 10 years ago in my late 40s but the feelings are just the same whatever you age…. Health stuff and conventionality in my 30s and slowly it’s dawned on me we can all wander and explore and achieve far more than we ever thought possible. So with you on this journey. Keep pedalling and smiling and documenting!
Thanks so my much Fiona! I couldn't agree with you more than we can wander, explore and do more than a lot of think we can. We really miss those hills, they still feel like home when I picture them in my mind. I hope you're able to get out and explore them yourself soon. But for now, this big adventure feels so right 🌍 bring on the wide open road!
I have been enjoying your wonderful videos for quite a while now and I must admit that I was beginning to ask myself, will they ever leave? You have gone through some hard times and I am so happy that you have mastered them. I wish you all the best and a wonderful journey!
I must admit we thought the same 😅 so happy to be on our way, even if it's a little chillier than we first intended to set off. We've learnt to go with the flow for sure. Thanks so much!
What an incredible start to a 10-year dream! 🚴♂🌏 Watching you both set out on such an epic journey is truly inspiring, and it’s amazing to see the dedication that brought you here. Can’t wait to follow along and experience the adventure with you. Wishing you all the best on this amazing ride!
Collywobbles. The brain telling your body not to get out of it's comfort zone or to follow your dreams and pursue your adventures no matter what. Happy travels to you both 🙏
Wishing you all the best on your big adventure. Live for today. None of our tomorrows are guaranteed. Love laugh live...and keep those wheels rolling.❤
Hi Josh Sarah I look forward to following you and whilst it will be a cycling adventure I can already feel it will also be a love story. My wife will never believe I would even recognise that 😉😂. When your in your 70s like me your going to have some great stories to tell your kids & grandkids. Best wishes.
Recognise so many landmarks on that journey around the the peaks, if I'd have known I would have invited you in for a coffee in Glossop. Bon Voyage beautiful people, I'm looking forward to updates.
I’ve been following you both for over a year on another account. My husband and I did bikepacking around England/scotland last year for the first time and absolutely loved it. Now we have a new baby so will be following along and possibly live vicariously through tour travels (whilst absolutely lovely our life here now). All the best! ☺️
Terrific video! Your ma, bro and I were the ones to benefit from all your unfortunate delays ...but we're so glad that you've overcome all the obstacles and that you're both finally free to follow your hearts! Travel safe and fulfil your dreams ...we'll be watching you all the way! xx
Hey pa, we're so grateful for everything and for putting up with us. It means a lot to know there's always a safe home for us wherever we are. We'll see you somewhere in Europe 😁
Everything happens for a reason, as see God is everything and it is he that will lead you and your path. You two have found love and that is the most key thing in life, guard it and appreciate each other. Get out of self, and find life. May God lead the two of you on an incredible journey and embrace everything he brings along in growth. I am getting older but so want to do the same thing take off and never look back. Edward Abbey talked about taking a path and going in one direction, wander and see the world. Looking forward to following you journey. G

Hey Sarah & Josh. The wife and I are very much looking forward to following your journey 😊
