Traditional country will never die. Too many of us have an abiding love for it. Fireworks, lights and a fifty piece band will never replace pure natural talent. Who needs a synthesizer when Vince is around? Or a 50 piece band with the vocals of folks like Mary Chapin and Kathy?
This is such a Beautiful song that so describes the feelings in my heart for a very special person...Mary Chapin is a hidden national treasure who doesn't get anywhere near the credit she deserves.Mary,if by chance, you EVER read this...You now know you wrote and touched 2 hearts...I thank you and we BOTH love you....!
I could listen to Mary Chapin play the guitar for hours on end. What an amazingly talented musician, singer and song writer. She is without a doubt the reigning Queen of Country Folk Music.
Beautiful delivery of this song and three of our very best artists giving their all , no glamour , no glitz - it`s often the case that the best music and song is performed around the kitchen table of a few friends .
Just beautiful. MCC is the best songwriter of our day. I had a chance to see her in person in June and it was the best concert I have ever seen. It's good to have her back after her illness.
The walls have gone and I have found a love that is the best I have ever had. It took only 50 years ,but well worth it. I have never been happier, thank God.
Wow! I”ve seen her in a small venue in the late 80s ....she’s always brilliant, but this song is one I hadn’t heard..beautiful as is her hair. I love her in this cut, showing off her great eyes. Everyone accompanying is wonderful too. Yay, Mary 🥰
I fiound this quite by accident, and boy, am I grateful!!! This is simply beautiful. Another one of MCC's lyric poems set to music. This woman is one of the most overlooked treasures in entertainment history. Why she isn't in the Pantheon of modern day composers is not only a mystery...it's almost a crime! You can listen to her stuff and just be transported by the personal nature of her stories, the intelligence of her lyrics, and the mellow beauty of her melodies. What an absolute gem!
Gosh what a beautiful song. I thought I knew every one of her songs but this is ...well i never heard it before...and three of my adored people right there....thank you so much. Wow.
Right there is the very best in Country music. Two of the best female vocalists ever and the legend, Vince Gill. Perfect example of great musicians and a great song.
I found this extraordinary gift from a very special playlist and it has brought me to tears all day. Nightingale knows how to give from her little bird beating loving heart and it always comes so easily. She is a poet and words have profound meaning to her. This song has touched her soul as none other ever! The Sunshine peeping his head out from behind the rain clouds of last night proving he knows her by heart and understands HER fear is melting in his prayers from winter, hope born this Spring!
Just proves Vince can pick anything amazingly, Chapin can sing it, and Kathy knows harmony. Well done...just a little something she whipped up for the occasion.
When and if GAY marriages become legal in all states, this will be our 1st waltz as a "MARRIED" COUPLE. What a beautiful song of love. Straight or gay!
OMG! I use to have this on VHS and it got recorded over...I thought I would never hear this song again. This is a wonderful song. Why it was never on a CD I'll never understand..... Thanks for putting this on here.
The problem is the msic buying audience is between 14 and 25 years old. The work by Mary Chapin, Patti Griffin, Shawn Colvin, etc. is grown up music. Let us pause for a moment to note the sensitivity of the mandolin playing by Vince Gill, remarkable. Kathy Mattea slipped up slightly on the lyrics and was embarrassed (I saw this when it aired the first time) and the reason you notice it is because you are transfixed by the performance, hearing every word, every tone. So poetic
Not taking anything away from Carrie and co., but gotta say I'm with you on the traditional sound. There is something immensely satisfying about those who can grab you with JUST their voices and lone instruments. Don Williams had some great musicians backing him. But he didn't NEED them. He used their talents and showcased many, but Don and his git fiddle could grab and hold an audience for hours. Tom T. the same. And many others. Far too often the MUSIC is lost in "the show".
This was back when country music was still country music. No glitz and glamour, just solid country music. Great stuff.
Amen!!!
Traditional country will never die. Too many of us have an abiding love for it. Fireworks, lights and a fifty piece band will never replace pure natural talent. Who needs a synthesizer when Vince is around? Or a 50 piece band with the vocals of folks like Mary Chapin and Kathy?
Three of the best people to ever happen to music. 😊
This song gives me chills. This is a top 10 hit. I can’t understand why she never released this.
Vince Gill is Awesome as well as both you Mary Chaplin and Kathy Mattea
Hello Patricia

Mary Chapin Carpenter should've been a much bigger star. Her voice is amazing!
Just beautiful. MCC is the best songwriter of our day. I had a chance to see her in person in June and it was the best concert I have ever seen. It's good to have her back after her illness.
I never get tired of this song - and the facial turn to Vince for the ending--- then they played it out- sweet smiles- sweet conections
The walls have gone and I have found a love that is the best I have ever had. It took only 50 years ,but well worth it. I have never been happier, thank God.

what's terrific about Vince Gill's part is that he watches where she starts and just picks up an improvises. so nice. no small part here. great job.
Crushingly beautiful
The performers' reactions at 4:50 were great. They knew they crushed it.
Wow! I”ve seen her in a small venue in the late 80s ....she’s always brilliant, but this song is one I hadn’t heard..beautiful as is her hair. I love her in this cut, showing off her great eyes. Everyone accompanying is wonderful too. Yay, Mary 🥰

The 1st time I saw MCC perform was on Austin City Limits when she was still unheard of. I liked her then and I love her now!!
Those 2 ladies are so good and so beautiful. Love this
Just proves Vince can pick anything amazingly, Chapin can sing it, and Kathy knows harmony. Well done...just a little something she whipped up for the occasion.
So BEAUTIFUL ..WOW THANKS
Wish they had put this on a CD! One of my favorites by MCC
How can you have Vince Gill there and not have him sing harmony?
She said she wrote it interested in two women's voices. . . .

I love both of these artists. I agree that they should have recorded this wonderful song!
This is Country at its best ever WOW
incredible. glad I found this by chance
WOW - AMAZING!
magic and art in one breath.
That was great. Thanks.
Chapin is such a generous artist that she just gave this lovely song to Maura O'Connell to perform. That is grace.
Oh, does that mean she cannot turn around and do it herself also?
I saw this live and had it on VHS tape for the longest time. Like one of the other commenters, I figured I'd never see it again. Thanks muchly! =)
OMG! This is wonderful!
Brings back wonderful memories of Padraig Pearce. Thank you!

Gimme Mary Chapin, Dolly and Alan Jackson and keep Carrie and Co. any day!

TALENT IS IS!!!!!! 100-100
When country singers were required to know how to sing. Beautiful voices! No hillbilly rap crap.
Thanks for posting
