I love daisy :)
Me too, I had a cat almost identical.
She's a good one
Daisy is a valuable asset to the shop. Don't need any mice building nests in the garage. Daisy is on the job.
Amazing how you've transformed the Mustang. You're definitely a true Craftsman 👍. Thanks for continuing to share the excellent progress and work you've done. 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
@@mikebrown8065 thanks for taking the time to watch the videos I should have another one out late week
Man with the quality of work you do I find it difficult to believe replacement panels would’ve been more expensive
I've been doing as much as I can to help him out it's just a sad story with this car
@@HotRodGuyGarage you’re a good guy
Like how you explain what you are doing and why. You've done a lot of work on this car already and there is still a lot of work to do. I also like you comment of making it a fast back. That would have make a cool car and made it more solid. Have a great week and keep those videos coming.
Excellent Russ cheers 🥂 😊
🔥😎
Ospho has been around for many years. I’ve used it many times with great results! Great job.
I'd still use a respirator. Cheap insurance against the fumes. Though hard to get a good seal with facial hair.
I am amazed at how deep you are going into that car. I hope the owner appreciates your attention to great work.
It's been about the only choice
You better mind your boss Daisy's she is telling you what to do in the shop 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm just a DIY guy, but you can get that phosphoric acid at the big hardware stores in a gallon for $20.00, it's under the Klean Strip brand and I think it's a bit more concentrated than the Ospho. Where I'm at is a really dry climate so I have to put clear plastic over it to keep it from drying out on me. Stuff works like a champ though. Etches concrete too apparently.
Noted
It’s turning out nice no cobble work
Good job Russ. That's quite an in-depth refinish. I hope you get paid what that's worth!
Thanks 👍
It's looking much better.
Its great to see the process. That’s a lot of work!!
Thanks, It really is!
I just stumbled onto your channel. Just subscribed. Very interesting and informative. I have two classics myself. A 1961 Impala with a 348 and 3x2 bbl, and a 1970 Duster 340 bucket seat car. The Impala is a super clean show winner. The Duster is a 3 footer. Paint is so so.
@@chrishottle4376 awesome collection both very cool cars
You have made an impressive amount of progress since the last update! I’m glad that you decided to do something with this car instead of using it for a parts car. Like they say “they aren’t making any more of them”. That is unless you want to buy a complete reproduction body. I’ve got to admit that I consider this car basically rust free compared to what you see around here close to salt water.
Thanks for the info on how you treated the rust.
Thanks for watching hopefully this shows some other options
This gentleman has lots more patience than me :)
Cheers for sharing your knowledge with us. I have learnt so much from your channel. Thanks H.G
Thanks for watching and glad you are learning something new
I have really enjoyed watching this process. You do some great work sir, this guys lucky he found you.
Thank you kindly
That roof was a mess...still is as you said it needs to be replaced. I can't help but wonder just how thin it is in spots as those were nasty pits. The umpteen trips over it with the rust killer is an important thing for others to see that it is not just one pass and you're done. Doing things right is a ton of time and oomph but the results are showing up day by day in very obvious ways.
it is great seeing this mess be corrected as much as financially possible. Whoever did all of that crap work on it before hopefully doesn't ever try to be a body man again.
High fives to you and great pointing out about why no respirator and showing your setup.
The roof was horrible, I'm sure it's pretty thin especially in the pits it will at least be better then it was and hopefully hold for a while
It's a one of one, GT 289! VERY RARE!
AutoZone edition
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I do hope the videos make up for the time and effort lost through your kind hearted soul. Turbo Fireflys Forever!
They don't even come close but I'm doing what I can
The guy is putting all this work into this cause if he tells his wife he made a mistake and wasted money on a car that wasn’t worth fixing he’d be in deep shit 🤣
Possibly
Every time I've seen the roof, I've thought that maybe treat the rust, prime, paint and put on a vinyl roof. Then you got to the front. Yikes! I don't know how to deal with the holes. Like you said, it needs a roof skin and to have the under roof structure exposed and treated.
Exactly, this was the most logical approach at this point. Saves him a headliner, windshield seal, blasting labor and about a weeks worth of labor over a skin
Definitely a vast improvement!!!
It will eventually get there
What about the weld on the driver side door gap ? How did that turn out ?
Ground down to a acceptable gap , didn't realize I never showed it again till I seen this comment.
Dude you are makng leminade out of rotten eggs. I hope the owner appreciates all that you are doing!!!!!
He is a good guy and has also learned a lot, I'm sure he will never buy a half way dolled up car again
Nice work Russ
Thanks
Would replacing the roof skin have been more expensive than what you are doing?
Yes
Looking good
Thanks
Should be a lot faster after that acid treatment. Didn't Smokey Yunick win at NASCAR in the 60's with some illegal acid-dipped Fords? 😆
I think you should use a respirator. Your going to pay for it down the road.
Agreed. My friend has been a body man for around 30 years. He usually doesn’t wear a respirator. Ended up getting pneumonia two years back and had to get his lungs scraped. Had a pool ball sized wad of body filler dust in his left lung
I usually do for this quick job it'll be alright
I can smell the Ospho from here. We used that back in the early 80s when I was in the profession.
Great info brother
Thanks
I see some foxbodys outside 😍
Yup there everywhere here
@HotRodGuyGarage I live in your area and im looking for a few parts. Im needing a passenger door and a hatch.
Email me at Hotrodguygarage@Gmail.com and I'll get you in contact with the guy that owns them
Hey Russ, as a beginner myself, how do you sand to metal and what grit do you use?
I used a harbor freight version of the Eastwood sct with a rust/paint remover wheel and then ran over it with 80 on a DA
That, was probably a vinyl top car.
He assumed that in the last video.
I'd say it's a 99% chance
@@HotRodGuyGarage If this car had a vinyl top, wouldn't be indicated in the broadcast sheet ? That's if it still exists.
It looks better in black than it did in red. Just my .02 cents.
2 tenths of cent?
@@joshuabekel9700 ya 2 tenths is all I can afford to spare with the way prices are now. A penny doesn't get you much anymore.
We've talked about possibly changing the color in the end but he doesn't have a lot of choices with a red and white interior
HINDSIGHT is always 20/20,,,,,,,,lol
Absolutely
You should talk the owner into a color change to a lighter color (white or light gray.) You will drive yourself crazy trying to get straight panels an it's still going to end up looking like the ocean.
We had discussed a color change
...this is like a bad dream...but you're awake.....
Correct
On the bright side that body should weigh about 50 pounds less than it did when it left the factory.
Definitely
i hate it for the owner
Was that a vinyl top car? Wow, how could it rust that bad? Outside forever l guess…..
Fantastic work on car & videos
I'm pretty positive it was
Can you give us a clue on how many hours you have spent on this and is the owner paying as you go?
I plan to do a total cost video towards the end
Take that window out.. you might find more surprise.
Yup that's why it stayed in
Stripping it with an SCT based on the pattern I’m seeing?
The harbor freight version but yeah
@@HotRodGuyGarage what flavor of wheel are you using?
Are you sure it's not worth Just cutting it up and making it a fastback?
At this point it isn't at the beginning up to the point when the old 1/4's where put back on it definitely was from his financial standpoint
@HotRodGuyGarage sadly the cost of the kit to do the conversation is almost is equal to the gain in value.
Since your working on it and know what your doing at one point it will cease to be a hack job, the moment that happens acknowledge it on your filming schedule and have a collective phewww with every one who watches, maybe it will loan this car some much needed special karma, maybe get a comment from the guy who owns it
Just don't get all the time spent to hack with bondo and paint....for what little money was probably paid for that.
I'd rather push carts at Walmart.
That's definitely what they done before at this point even though the car will have to be skimmed it will have far less filler then before
Good grief, what a total rust bucket
It sure was
If you're not taking care of the structural issues and are just gonna bondo and paint over it, you ain't no restorer or any kind of mechanic i'd want even eyballing my car. People bring cars to ' professionals ' to fix them, not cover stuff up and call it done.😢👎👎👎
Obviously you haven’t been watching and staying up on this car! This man has practically rebuilt this car. You should have seen it when it was brought in before you start running your mouth!
Might watch the series I've literally built this car from the firewall back, there comes a point where you have to make decisions on just how much further you go on a car that has had 3x it's worth invested in it.
You can only go as far as the customer allows. This isn’t a full restoration, another words ,he isn’t making it museum quality. He is limited. If this was his car maybe he would take the whole car apart Have it dipped ,seal with epoxy and do a rotisserie on this car
