I disagree with odst. I feel like it should be on beefy. Because of the music. Plus fighting the two hunters as buck, and then using the missle launchers, that was pretty badass, and the higheay mission. And the audios are just so good by themselves. In my opinion, of course. Great vid!
Halo Reach's biggest advantage on this list, was that it's first mission was based on the second mission of CE. It starts with a little exploration, then gets a combat section, then you get a vehicle and it opens up with multiple objectives you can tackle in any order. But then, after the point CE's second mission ends, there's two more action set pieces.
Halo 4 is definitely controversial. Imo, It's a bit of a "perhaps I treated you too harshly" game. At least with the other stuff 343 has put out, 4 ain't that bad now. It's still far from perfect, but games like 5 and Infinite stop me from saying it's the worst Halo. Solid list either way, You've earned a sub.... #ODSTisUnderated
One thing that you didn't consider was that Sergeant Johnson's dialogue does switch up depending on the difficulty you play in CE personally I would put it in slaps just not as hard
I respect the Halo 4 opinion but man it was just bad imo. The Didact was interesting but they didn’t do much with him, the story sucked with the only redeeming part of the story being Chief and Cortana’s individual story arcs, the art design was bad, the elites being randomly bad again was confusing at first and really jarring, less than half of the missions were actually fun and memorable with the only redeeming quality there being the sandbox, and the multiplayer was imo the literal worst of any other halo game. Just my take though
@jacobwhelan45 the multiplayer I agree with. I honestly didn't mind the story. Some of the missions were admittedly less desirable, and the didact was underutilized for how cool he looked.
@@Centrifewgi I also felt Halo 3 built him up so much with the terminals only for him to have 3 in game appearances and have little relevance to the series as a whole
I was 32 when Halo first came out so I had already played plenty of FPS games like Doom,Duke Nukem,Half Life,Turok 2,Quake ECT. Even still Halo was a very good game when it came out and I was glad I got an Xbox. I also got it for the Sega games but that's another story. So having played every Halo game up to this point except Infinite, and going back thru the Master Chief collection and Halo 5,I agree with your placement. The first game is still good but the gameplay is a bit clunky and some of the level design wasn't good then and it's not now. A lot of copy and paste elements and a lot of sameness after awhile. The Library is still not a fun level. The second game is however still great. Especially the enhanced version with the amazing cutscenes. The story is well told and the characters are enjoyable. The third game is good but I always felt it wasn't that great. If felt a bit recycled especially the terrible driving section at the end which was just as bad as 1s driving section. Still it was fun enough. ODST is fine. It's not bad but it's not really good. Playing as a normal human is a good idea but it never felt like that. The characters were boring and the gameplay was pretty rote at this point. Reach is a great game. Great storytelling and a good lead in to the first game. You really feel the tragedy as they fight a losing battle. Just getting the Pillar of Autumn off the planet at the end is the best they can do. This game should have been the entire first season of the garbage Halo show. How cool would that have been to be with these characters thru the whole show just to have them sacrifice themselves at the end. Then you could introduce the Master Chief as it leads into the first game being the second season. God that show was so bad it makes Halo 5 look almost good. Halo 4 I think is representative of 343s problems. It starts off good. It looks good. It plays good. But they never understood Halo at all. They make the MC to be far too much of a superhero and they keep retconning and rebooting their own stories. Halo 4 and 5 really don't feel connected very well and making Halsy a bad guy and the UNSC kind of shady doesn't work. It feels very much like modern Kurtzman Star Trek and that's a big turn off. Lets just have the good guys be good and the villains be villains. Halo 5 and Infinite both have issues. Especially with the story. It's like everything that they set up at the end of 5 just gets tossed out the window and taken care of off screen by Infinite. What was the point? It's like there was a whole game that went missing. It's like they wanted to reboot Halo for new players but also wanted the old players and neither really cared. Infinite is so dead now it's like the show. Now Halo is a damaged franchise and I really don't know if they even know what to do with it. Much like Gears of War I don't trust the teams making the games. Too much DEI infested garbage has been slowly eating away at these companies and the end result is mediocre products that are forgotten about by the time a new game comes out.
@kellinwinslow1988 I am in agreement with a lot of what you are saying. But I do happen to love the final warthog run at the end of CE and 3. If the S1 had of been about Reach, everyone would have loved it, but it is somehow worse than Halo 5, because at least Halo 5 is enjoyable to play.
That I agree with. Maybe it's because I played all the Halo games back to back on the MCC collection and by the time I got to 3 I was a bit sick of the Warthog. Lol. But on its own it's a fine scene. But yes the show was so miserable and mishandled that I can't believe it got made. But 343 was on board with it so that tells you something right there.I like both Gears and Halo but maybe they both need to take a rest much like Star Wars and other longtime franchises that have been milked for too long.
@kellinwinslow1988 I personally think Gears of War is one of the few franchises Microsoft has left that has consistently had good games. I like Kate's story, although it has lost a lot of its more grimey and dark tone. I absolutely do not agree with the insane amount of microtransactions however.
@@CentrifewgiThat is True. Although it's much like Halo. The fourth game was a good start. A good set up for something new. Sadly I think both 5th games kind of pissed away the potential they had set up. Marcus's son could have been a good main character. His friends were fine but Kate I found to be extremely annoying. She was a good side character but that's it. as soon as the focus shifted to her I could smell the DEI coming off the writers. Especially when they started talking about how they wanted to change the fact that it was always a dude bro shooter and make it more "accessible". That was a red flag. Trying to appeal to an audience that just isn't there. But when they constantly put Marcus's son down and made him look like an idiot and then prop up Kate and have Marcus confirm how good she is and then give you a choice as to who to let die at the end of the game. No. That was just bad. It's so bad. And sales reflected that as well as how quick it fell off in multiplayer. You can tell they knew how bad it was because the next game goes back to being a prequel instead of being Gears 6. It's a lot like Halo with their constant course corrections. Now both Gears and Halo are hurting and I don't think Microsoft can make people care anymore.

15:49 No it is time we all agree that Halo 4 was a mid game with a shitty story, even putting aside all the retcons and other changes. Between the A plot and the B plot the B-Plot with Chief and Cortona almost works and is saved by the acting (both in voice and Motion capture) and at least is thematically consistent. Not the direction I would have taken Halo in but at least it could have worked, and I can see if you can turn your brain off and just go off of the emotions conveyed why people like it. The A Plot with the Didact, Librarian, and Prometheans was just nonsense. Didact was introduced as a mustache twirling James Bond style villain who has you dead to rights and then tosses you aside because you are beneath him and then continues to monolog at you throughout the game as if you were nothing even though you prove yourself a threat firmly establishing him as a villain I cannot take seriously. To add insult to all of this he is defeated in a Deus Ex Machina quick time event. Then there is that Librarian Lore dump that takes place mid game where the last thread of my suspension of disbelief was cut. That explanation was barely coherent and turns chief in to a literal pre-destined Messiah figure when that was best left as figurative as it was in the OT. I can however agree with your positioning of the opening to H4. Story might have been stretched but didn't go off the rails quite yet.
Halo 5s intro cinematic is terrible all it does is appeal to the teen super hero power fantasy which makes sense because halo 5 is rated for teens.
