  • In this episode, I'm exploring an abandoned prison which was constructed back in the 1930s. The facility is outlined with four main cell blocks, a hospital center, and many items left behind: including forgotten gas masks and inmate outfits. The prison is completely untouched, and marvelous decay rains across the forgotten cell blocks. Power used to run through these walls not so long ago, but I wasn't so lucky to experience that by the time I had my chance to explore this abandoned location. Let's explore!

Nice explore Luke. Good to see nice natural decay and no vandalism.

The Proper People must have shot their video years ago unless the power was cut immediately after they visited and this is the end result of that. AMAZING explore my man!

I’ve been trying to figure that out as well- maybe one day I’ll get to talk to them. Who knows, maybe they’ll see this video! Thanks Jeff that means a lot, this was one of my favorite explores ever

I'm confused why you guys think they shot it years ago when they just posted it a couple months ago. I mean, I understand they could have filmed it months before that, but I doubt years before they posted.

@@playhooky Without their official answer, we may never know how long ago they shot their video but I've never seen a place decay that fast if it was just a few months ago! (even without electricity)

@@jeffcicale Oh I see what you're saying. I didn't fully understand your reasoning on the timing of their video & also the power being shut off. I actually don't think the place has decayed very noticeably more since their video - it basically looked as bad then. And I think the main reason for the decay of the metals rusting & the paint & wall finishes flaking/falling off is mainly due to lack of heat in the winters leads to terrible humidity & moisture condensation plus that is further hastened if there are open windows or doors.

I'm just going to make a new post because I can, and it helps!
This was GREAT! Such a rare find to a place such as this! Wow! I think my favorite part were the stairs. Not sure why, seeing as I can't do heights lol.
It blows my mind to see what people leave behind. This probably couldn't be used again, but still. And this, folks, is why America is known as the wasteful Country it is. lol
Congrats on the graduation! You should be proud of yourself. Great work, great find!

I’m so glad you enjoyed, thank you for watching! 100 pct can’t be used again, this facility is so far out of touch from reality- I’ve really never seen anything like it. One of if not my favorite locations ever. I cannot wait to go back. And thank you so so much for that, tomorrow is the big day!! That was really kind of you Mary:) thank you again!

When I saw that you were exploring an abandoned correctional facility, I thought to myself... This is going to be an interesting one. I'm reminded of a certain time period during my career as a Firefighter and Paramedic when there was a maximum security prison within my district. While trying my best to keep the particulars redacted for obvious reasons, there was one inmate who had committed numerous murders whom I had to transport back and forth to a local hospital. Whenever this inmate left the facility, the ambulance would have a full NY State Police and SWAT escort with a helicopter flying overhead. It reminded me a lot of the Hannibal Lecter movie series.
Another fantastic explore, Luke! The most interesting and impressive locations I used to be called to during my career were the industrial, military, and correctional.
EDIT: Also, The Proper People are not folks one should aspire to.

To be honest, this is one of my favorite locations I’ve ever explored. Up there with Ghost Town in the Sky. I cannot name the facility for obvious reasons, but the decay here absolutely took the day away. Stunning barely tells the full story.
What an interesting perspective, thank you for sharing. For me, seeing these empty facilities, I always try and relive how it would have been back in the day. Your insight really helps me realize and understand that perspective, and I always love hearing stories like this. I would love to hear more about this.
**very curious why you don’t like the proper people- stir the tea!!!
Thank you again for watching:) so glad you enjoyed!

@@TheLukeExplores Urban explorers usually fall into one of two categories: folks that are known to public safety and are deemed harmless, and those who are on the radar of public safety and are considered a problem. The Proper People are considered the latter, and during the last years of my tenancy when I was fire department brass, their names were brought up during debriefings.

    • @TheLukeExplores
      @TheLukeExplores  3 місяці тому +2

What is it about them that makes them a problem? This is seriously the first time I’m hearing about this! I know some people don’t like them but not for safety reasons? Super curious

@@TheLukeExplores When caught by police or private security, the majority of explorers simply offer apologies and move on. The Proper People started exploring various locations in NY, and whenever the police would be called, they would verbally challenge the responding officers. By challenging authority, challenging the order to leave will only make the situation worse as the more you do this, the more that law enforcement will find reason for arrest.
As soon as I became brass, their names came up during morning debriefing from time to time. And while I was also exploring on my days off, which were few and often far between, as soon as I was promoted to officer status, I no longer had the fear of arrest hanging over my head. Ironically, on a handful of occasions when the police were called, they would radio back and say that they, "didn't find anyone". In reality, they found me and motioned for me to leave as quickly as possible. It helps to know people, I guess.
On a related note, I did collaborate with someone who was notorious for getting arrested, but because he had the outlook that you do (i.e. preservation, documentation, not touching anything), property owners and managers often declined to press charges.
I will gladly fill you in on the details and stories if you still wish to meet up this year. I've got some places to show you. 🙂

@rescuegirl I’ll be back in NY within the next two weeks!!! I’d say late June is when we’re gonna set that up! I can’t wait to learn more about this. I’m super curious. To all of it. I won’t even type it all bc I’m sure there’s some sensitive information you’d rather share privately?

@@TheLukeExplores I think they must feel that they have this place secured well enough that it was safe to store the records there. I certainly agree with earlier comments that the condition of the banker's boxes with records showed hardly any deterioration which doesn't match the decay of the facility, so I have to think they've been placed there for storage much more recently & not left there since the place ceased operations. I wonder if the records are only being stored there temporarily even & will possibly be retrieved for shredding. Anyways, this is the 3rd or 4th video of this place that I watched (staying up all night lol) & yours is the BEST tour of this place imho!
