Love that you continue to compare with "rookie" version throughout the video, and without intentionally making the rookie version bad. A lot of content creators would have made the rookie version intentionally bad to make the final result look better, but instead you made the rookie version simple and straightforward, how a beginner would actually create the effect. It's a small detail but it made the video feel much more honest about how effective the "magic 3" rule is.
I appreciate that a lot, thank you - my goal was to make something that many people could enjoy instead of a dry and overly technical video. My focus is on the concepts and the overall process, not on the specific buttons I press inside an application.

@@konotori_vfx Well besides the point that I think he is just saying he likes that he is here on youtube teaching and when something like this is a fulltime job it takes a lot out of you; I work for an advertising agency as a lead product animator and can honestly say the amount of red tape we have just for commercials, which is not at the level of red tape of feature films, it can be very difficult to show behind the scenes or do educational videos. Hey. I'm in the 3D game for a year now and this was one of the most important tutorials I've been watching! It's not about doing insane portals like this, its about to UNDERSTAND what you have to do to get to the next levels. Huge thank you for my new favorite rule!!
It's amazing how much effort and randomness we must imbed into our creations in order to make them look natural. You're knocking on a door of great potential, don't stop pushing this theory, you've demonstrated it absolutely beautifully.
I actually loved this, the "magic three" rule is something Imma use a lot. That's what I love about tutorials like this; it works for EVERYTHING, not just a doctor strange portal effect. Also it cuts all the fat and leaves just what you need. It's a great tutorial.
If works for every type of art too! It's just a great rule. I see it most in comedy. Or even plot. Telling the joke 3 times with 3 as the maximum before it gets old. It is the same with film. You can have 3 "references" to an event in a plot before it gets old. 3 surprises. 3 is always the best
Came here from yt recommendations, i was surprised you only have 500 subscribers! You deserve so much more, I don't even do CG but you explain these concepts so well
Thank you, that's good to hear. I hope to strike a balance between giving interesting information and not getting too deeply into the very technical (boring) aspects!
@@Digipiction I believe a good example of that is Ian Hubert, packed with info but not a 'real' tutorial per say(although he does those too), just enough for those who are already accustomed with 3d to follow along and test it either on the same software or transfer it to their favorite ones.
I have to say that I took those Marvel movies for granted, the amount of effort put behind a single portal shows the level of details to make a great movie. It is truly marvelous.
Lovely format and impressive results! (would be also nice to have some render times info in the description) It reminded me those trapcode particular/form days, playing around with after effect settings. Keep it up!
Thank you, the render times were a bit longer than I had hoped. The entire sequence is about 15 seconds and took a few hours to render on three RTX 3060s. I'll look up the exact times tomorrow and add them into the description.
I've been using noises for quite some time but thanks to this vid I can design my stuff based on a solid knowledge, not just a mere hunch. This video was very eye-opening and enjoyable to watch! :)
Just found out about this video right now, I'm glad to hear that those concepts are the same I applied when I recreated my own Dr Strange portal, although I think I missed some of the layered turbulent forces, I like how some of the particles keep floating around far away from the circle here
I like how this guy is between 7 and 97 years old judging by his voice, but like 9000+ years equivalent of skills in Houdini. I'm sure hoping to see more of you. It was really funny and informative video.
Your video just popups on the home screen. For half of the video, I was think that this channel has 500k subs .. Nice job bro , you have new subscriber !
imo looks better than marvel's ones, there's just some blue aura/a cooler tone to theirs which does not fit the scene well and the particles don't interact with the scene as nicely as yours does. Extremely good job amigo
