One-Way Genie (No Reverse Drive) - Part 1

  • After fixing the stalling problem, a quick test drive shows that the Genie can only drive ONE WAY!
On the modern lifts, the inputs and outputs are wired to a "smart" control board...here comes the scope!
Can we get the Genie to drive without replacing expensive parts?
    Enjoy!
    Ivan

Ivan I'll say it again your on a jobsite your required to wear a fall arrest harness to operates these booms it's not a suggestion it's the law. If an OHSA inspector goes on site you and or your company can be fined or thrown off site. The "ALC 500" boards can go bad i've replaced many in my carreer. also the hall effect joysticks can go bad as well. that drive joystick looks like an aftermarket, likely from totalsource, I try to stick to OE Sauer Danfoss units from Genie as they are better quality. Your diagnostics are awesome but again the thing with probing wires with your wire piercing probes if your not going to fix the holes it's a point of corrosion and some of these units rely heavily on voltage readings to make the boom work and some for adjusting levels, angles etc and can affect the units stability ( I am not knocking your way of probing wires but bare in mind there is a better way to check voltages etc. with backprobes that you can stick in to the terminal ends like on the deutsch terminals that don't damage the wires integrity. Another thing I will point out please do not bypass anything or modify anything on these booms or aerial equipment that is not up to factory snuff "Russian Repairs" (yes i know it's a running joke but i think you know what I mean, If it needs a board or whatever, replace it and bill the customer and make sure the equipment is safe (No bypasses or hacks etc, no patching hydraulic hoses temporarily etc. if it's not safe to operate it should be locked out (lock out tag out) and the owner made aware of it we as servicers and repairers have a duty to make sure of this. Safety is key with this equipment so cover your ass.

as long as he keeps the bottom mesh of the basket(where he stands) below 4 feet he can get away with it. no inspector will like it. but thats how i got around it. but yeah you are 100% about repairs. nothing other than factory design and they also need to be certified (tested) after ANY repair!

@@richardcranium5839 rules might be different in some places. Here its if your in the platform unless your exiting you have to wear the harness and lanyard must be attached to the platform at any height. We had a death recently with an employee not wearing a harness. Wheels of the float truck weren't chocked. Truck moved ahead and boom fell back and catapulted the guy out some 300 feet. Lights out permanently.

from what I saw, he brought the "bad" board to the good genie and tested it as bad. however. the "bad" board most likely stores calibrations on it which arent going to be valid on the good genie, so it was 100% going to fail anyway... he should have taken the good genie's board to the bad genie and ran the calibration procedure. for a valid test to prove the bad genie is fine

Swaptronics can save you a lot of time in diagnosing a problem...Be extra careful with ESD, otherwise you may fry up a good board. Did the good board work in the Bad Genie? To be 110% correct, you need to try it with caution. Did the board die or was it killed by an exterior circuit/device?

you're forgetting the most Important thing... what do you think caused that mother board to Malfunction in the first place it looks very clean.... #1 thing that blows the motherboard on those lifts is the Alternator not functioning as it should which if not checked will just destroy the new motherboard in no time at all.

    • @jaridcool
      @jaridcool 3 роки тому +1

@Jason Bowman absolutely if I had determined it was the controller board like he did the next thing I would have done before ordering a board... look for cold solder joints very common because of the Vibration I would have made a quick repair if I'd found any cracked solder joints (use a magnifying glass) second because it doesn't seem to be getting the proper power it's either a bad solder joint or failing capacitors.... you're dead on those are always the 2 items on those boards that tend to fail the #1 thing that damages the capacitors is a failing alternator. Seen those boards replaced without checking for a poorly operating Alternator and soon you will find the new controller board blow a month or two later because of a failing alternator!! same thing happens to New computer motherboards attach a new Board to a failing 'power supply' you'll soon see that new motherboard blow it's capacitors in no time.

The Bootloader successfully installed and during updating of Firmware DISCON, PCON main, PCON secondary and TCON secondary successfully update 100% but TCON main not updating and showing message "Sub-ECU not responding try to recovery. I've checked wiring and CAN resistance on J5 and J10 connectors, all good. The Genie have ALC-600 controllers.

I'm not sure when you'd have to recalibrate, unless you put on a new stick? Clearly, when you swapped boards, the 'memory' should be cleared, and in theory, wouldn't you have to do a recal? But you didn't have to on the 08, it worked just fine plug and play.. Interesting..

Doesn't a Hall sensor have a high impedance output? I think, your calibration messed up because the scope leads were still connected during the calibration. Did you measure the PWM signals without having the leads connected to the scope?
If that control board would be very expensive, it might be viable to DIY something with an Arduino and some mosfets.
Depending on what the PWM signals feed into, you can probably just throw in some capacitors, maybe some diodes and make the thing go full speed forward, full speed backward, or no movement.
I'm curious of your trademark repair. Please post them closer to each other or release as one video. I can't wait.
