When I saw Tomahawk I thought we were reviewing a Tomahawk steak! 😆Seriously, it looks like a solid and well built mobo. I use ASUS mobos and my son uses MSI. MSI does take longer to boot but I do like the BIOS screens. Also use CSM when installing a hard drive with a previously installed OS. If its in UEFI it wont boot the OS. Thanks Mike & Kath! Cheers from Las Vegas. By the way it snowed in the mountains today. Strange weather! 😮
Note on THIS! 27:00 is that to the right side is RPM my case fans and most fans only has recommended 2000 RPM. So, this fan curve will max out the fans. And you will have an airplane. So in this case 70% is like 10000RPM. My fan curve is almost in the bottom to achieve normal rum sound. Just keep that in mind when you set your curve.
Hello! I find your videos very helpful (new pc builder, this is my first one)! I'm having a bit of trouble with connecting to the internet with this motherboard as the options at 7:11 for me are "Auto, Wi-Fi only, BT Only, Wi-Fi/BT Off". I tried it on Auto but it still wouldn't work on Windows 11 Pro, so I'm trying wifi only but I'm not sure it's working either. I was hoping to use both wifi and bluetooth but there is no option for it. Should I just use an Ethernet cable at this point?

@@mzd3ocho Hi, I had to connect to the router through the Ethernet cable and then update windows. It will prompt you to install all the missing drivers and that did it for me. If you keep having trouble you should be able to download the drivers separately on a usb from another pc and then install them on the windows one (I did it from Mac on my w11 a couple of weeks ago when my WiFi driver stopped working and simply reinstalled the new one. It was working once again but you shouldn’t get to this point unless it really isn’t working). As long as you can connect trough the Ethernet you should have issues after the couple of updates.
This is great board i use it with my Ryzen R5 7600x, mater of fact all the b50 series board are good from MSI, i still have all my Tomahawk boards from the first B350 to the b550 till now no problems ever and were just solid they make great boards period, but great review mate well done.
If you still have this build, how is it on booting up? Does it take a bit longer or even a minute or more? I've heard issues about this, especially with msi an I just recently got this MB an CPU, I notice it does take longer then my old ddr4 build.
I do find the MSI bios better to navigate on my dters pc versus my asus mb. Will be a while before jumping from AM4 2bh but glad of your tutorial Mike and Kath. Thanks for sharing👍

Again, Thanks for the video. Quick question, how do i disable fast boot ? I manually OC the ram and would like to have the bios train the memory every boot. Any help would be great. Thanks.
I got a lot of problems with this one and Ryzen 7700x, it doesn't show my SSD in the bios. But it does show it as a C drive to store things. also only usb audio jack on the front of pc works. its really bad too, my audio jacks in the back don[t work

Does the EXPO profile come with the MOBO or the ram itself? Will the MOBO recognize it and provide you with 2 expo profiles or you need to buy expo ram?
Most modern boards have the ability to “read” data programmed into the memory chip. Xmp is for intel and expo is for amd on the am5 platform. Some ram will have both xmp and expo profiles programmed onto them for the motherboard to read. Hope this helps
I had a question. Is the bios interface same for every b650 msi boards? Or MSI in general for that matters. Like I'll be buying a msi b650m gaming(non-plus), will the bios interface be same? And if it is then is it same for every other mobo vendors?
Thank you very much. I have the exact same MB / CPU combo. My question is does the restore factory default option in bios keep or reset the bios version. Thanks.
Hi i want to know one thing. Does the board makes PBO curves thing more viable and stavle or its mostly the processor chip RNG. I have that motherboard and still didnt mess with it because i enjoy my brand new PC and its a beast compared to my 7yo one, but one day i plan to mess with it. So how is that board doing with PBO settings?
most motherboards use too much voltage so that even marginal processors will still be stable and acheive the rated speeds. this means that the majority of processors could run a lower voltage and likely perform better. this is why PBO and curve optimisation is a thing
Thinking to buy this board or Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX. What troubles me is , who from these 2 boards has better Linux support. Because the last 8 years I use only Linux.
Hey Mike, Thanks for the very educational video. Can you help me figure out why my time keeps resetting on restart? I have turn my windows time services to auto and have replaced my CMOS battery, with no luck. Any help will be appreciated as I need it for work.
Hello and thank you for this great video! Got the same board with 7600x, but when I press save and exit after changing settings (fan curves) the pc does not boot up. I do a manual reset for it to boot again after 3-5 mins in this state. Is this normal, should I just wait it out? Appreciate the help and the info!
Update: I found out that for some reason when I save and exit, GPU does not give any signal. Moved the display port to motherboard after waiting 5minutes again and I got image and was able to restart the pc from Windows this time and switch back dp in the GPU. Any idea why is this happenning? ❤

Hello Mike, first time pc builder here and sorry if this is a stupid question. I’m trying to build a system with Ryzen 5 7600 and MSI B650 Tomahawk motherboard.. is it ok if I use “XMP” certified RAM or should I go for “AMD EXPO” certified RAM or is there any difference at all? I have an issue with getting this board to work with both DIMMs installed. It works with one DIMM in the A2 channel but it wont work with both modules no matter which slots they are in. They both will work individually on A2 though. The module isn't faulty and I updated the BIOS with most recent version. Reseated both modules and made sure they were securely connected. Still only works with one. Anything else I can do? Ryzen 7700x CPU Corsair Vengeance DDR5 16GB x2
I was watching a video by Hardware Unboxed about the cheapest b650 motherboard. Interresting results, but what stunt me was that both MSI motherboard had the longest boot time of all. Around 40 second while Gigabyte MB were at about 23 seconds! Hope this will improve with more mature BIOS...
I havethis mainboard and RAM which is stated to support EXPO, however, the BIOS only shows "A-XMP". Do you by chance know if this is different in newer BIOS versions, or does my RAM have wrong specs? The profile does seem to work, so your video aside everything appears to be fine.
Looked on this MOBO specification list and it doesnt say it supports expo on there however b650-s pro wifi does, should i ignore this? does it have expo on there? surely right cos b650-s pro is like $40 cheaper, im using a 7800x3d with tforce delta rgb 6000mhz

When I select "PEG" the board is still always trying to boot from IGPU. I have to remove cable from the GPU and put it into motherboard HDMI to get picture. BIOS reset did not help. Sometimes forcefully resting the PC 10+ times will make the board put the picture through the GPU. But you can imagine how annoying this is. Is there any update for the board or should I return it and get some other board?
the board will only try to use the igpu if either there is no other GPU detected or it is told to via the bios. If there is an HDMI or DP cable in the igpu that will also trigger the Igpu

Hi there Mike! I hope you are doing well! I just have a quick question that I'm hoping I can get a answer too. So long story short, I got a brand new PC built not too long ago been about 3 weeks since it was built and the last week of it I accidentally got a malware virus and so I took it back too the company which I bought the parts from and had it built so they could do a fresh install of the OS windows 11 so it would completely get rid of the malware. I just got it back not too long ago and I have the exact same Motherboard and before the fresh install when i would either turn on my PC or even just restart it, I would see the motherboards logo first then it would boot into windows, but after the fresh install I now noticed it doesn't show me the Motherboards logo at all and just fast boots into windows. I'm not a very technical person which is why I am asking how can I get my Motherboards logo too show up again like before? I did go into control panel and disable fast boot in power options but that still didn't do anything so I am guessing that option is also enabled in the bios of my Motherboard, how can I get into the bios of this board and disable fast boot? Any assistance is appreciated thank you!
sometimes if the monitor is plugged into a different port, it doesn't get initialised before windows loads, so try plugging the monitor into a different port to start with

hi mike im using this board and the graphics card when i turn on the pc the fans of the gpu run at 100% then turn back to normal speed , do you have any idea that can fix this issue because the fans are so loud and annoying
setup the fans in the BIOS, and make sure the ports are set to PWM and with the right power curves and it will be much better. otherwise you are letting them go nuts until windows drivers kick in (this is for case fans) For GPUs it is part of the design in some cards so there is nothing you can do about it

Hi Mike, I'm looking at building a new gaming rig for the first time in about 15 years and am interested in investing into the AM5 Platform and currently have the following components on the shopping list (budget is around £2,000). The games I like the look of are mainly play FPS and RTS games like Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Call of Duty series, Overwatch 2, Borderlands 3 and such like. I believe combining the Ryzen 5 7600X with a GPU like the RX6800XT or higher will squeeze the most performance out of the system and also has an upgrade path built in (the Ryzen 5 7600X can cope with the fastest GPU on the market, even the monster known as the RTX 4090 - so maybe when the price drops). * CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X * GPU: Radeon RX6800 XT or the 6950 XT * Mobo: MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 WIFI * CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin or DeepCool AK620 (or maybe an AIO Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2) * RAM: Kingston Fury BEAST RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 5200 CL40 or similar * PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 750W V2 Fully Modular or similar (min.750W, at least B-Tier) * Case: So many to choose from but 2 that I like are the Be Quiet! Silent Base 500DX and the Antec NX410 (ideally would like the Hyte Y60 but this is a tad pricey at over £200) * Monitor: Gigabyte M28U (a 4k one).

wow snow there? that must be a rare sight:?
Note on THIS! 27:00 is that to the right side is RPM my case fans and most fans only has recommended 2000 RPM. So, this fan curve will max out the fans.
And you will have an airplane. So in this case 70% is like 10000RPM. My fan curve is almost in the bottom to achieve normal rum sound. Just keep that in mind when you set your curve.
just switch to PWM fan to all fans and use fan control to adjust otherwise it will be real louder ( the cpu fan stays in auto)

I have the same problem as you how did you fix it😅
@@mzd3ocho Hi, I had to connect to the router through the Ethernet cable and then update windows.
Thanks for the guide, it was very helpful to me👌
Brilliant and thorough video. Excellent content and insight into this boards features. Thanks.

You are very welcome
Again, Thanks for the video. Quick question, how do i disable fast boot ? I manually OC the ram and would like to have the bios train the memory every boot. Any help would be great. Thanks.
I think if you manually oc the ram the training is truncated anyway as you have chosen your own timings

Jo,finde ich bis jetzt auch echt geil das mainboard. Was braucht man noch? Eigentlich alles, was das Herz begehrt oder die CPU und der Speicher.
And if it is then is it same for every other mobo vendors?
msi tend to be very similar and other brands will be same with maybe a few layout changes and descriptions
Would a Ryzen 5 7600 and msi A620m-e work without a bios update keep in mid it's a motherboard with no bios update button? 🤔
7600 was part of the original AM5 release so it will work out of the box on any AM5 motherboard
Thank you very much. I have the exact same MB / CPU combo. My question is does the restore factory default option in bios keep or reset the bios version. Thanks.
the bios level or version is hard coded, a reset of the cmos just resets the settings not the bios version
Because the last 8 years I use only Linux.
no idea sorry, not used any form of linux for over a decade

Hello and thank you for this great video! Got the same board with 7600x, but when I press save and exit after changing settings (fan curves) the pc does not boot up. I do a manual reset for it to boot again after 3-5 mins in this state. Is this normal, should I just wait it out? Appreciate the help and the info!
Update:
I found out that for some reason when I save and exit, GPU does not give any signal. Moved the display port to motherboard after waiting 5minutes again and I got image and was able to restart the pc from Windows this time and switch back dp in the GPU. Any idea why is this happenning? ❤

Try reseating the cpu sometimes uneven mounting pressure causes that
I was watching a video by Hardware Unboxed about the cheapest b650 motherboard. Interresting results, but what stunt me was that both MSI motherboard had the longest boot time of all. Around 40 second while Gigabyte MB were at about 23 seconds! Hope this will improve with more mature BIOS...
yeah boot times suck on msi at the moment, there is an option to override it but it could make the system unstable
@mikesunboxing are 13 extra seconds the end of the world? I think we will survive. 😊
I havethis mainboard and RAM which is stated to support EXPO, however, the BIOS only shows "A-XMP". Do you by chance know if this is different in newer BIOS versions, or does my RAM have wrong specs?
The profile does seem to work, so your video aside everything appears to be fine.
if the ram has an EXPO profile installed it should be shown or accessible, but truthfully if it all works as it should, say a prayer and enjoy your pc
Gonna get this motherboard when the 7800x3d comes out I can't wait
hopefully the bios updates get better soon and the DDR5 boot times decrease
@Mike's unboxing, reviews and how to yeah

Any assistance is appreciated thank you!
sometimes if the monitor is plugged into a different port, it doesn't get initialised before windows loads, so try plugging the monitor into a different port to start with

setup the fans in the BIOS, and make sure the ports are set to PWM and with the right power curves and it will be much better. otherwise you are letting them go nuts until windows drivers kick in (this is for case fans)

my ryzen 9 7900x can pull 211W (reported form the cpu package power sensor in hwinfo64)
but the max cpu package temperature is 85C it doesnt want to go higher
I get 28 913 pts in cinebench r23 multicore test
fair i did cool my room and coolant to 23C before running the stress tests odd that this cpu doesnt reach 90C easily
my aio is a corsair h150i elite capellix xt 360mm and I used corsair xtm70 paste
got the golden ticket there
@@mikesunboxing you mean golden chip?
No way
Does this board have any coil whine?
no not that i noticed
How did you make the menu red?
i didn't change anything, that was as it was
If I add an xmp supported ram to this motherboard, will it work?
yes it should do, AMD supports XMP and EXPO mostly
Yes, some of the sticks used in the QVL are actually XMP only (The corsair 48gb sticks for example)
I personally prefer the old text BIOS settings - you can't get lost. With this new stuff I never know what is clickable and what is just a picture losing 5x more time in BIOS than used to.
i see that.
is there a way to turn off all rbg through bios?
yes first page bottom right toggle
yo i was wondering is it possible to update the bios withouy an usb
no i don't think so except via the msi center bios updater
Guys, please help me fix the error with led vga. The computer works, but the monitor does not light up. I have already tried everything except the settings in the BIOS. The error appeared after assembling a new computer, all components are new and compatible with each other
Components
Rizen 5 7500f
Asus rtx 4060ti
Msi b650 tomahawk
Kingston furi ddr5 32gb
I thought the problem was in the motherboard, so I changed the gigabyte b650m 3dhp to msi but this is not a problem in the motherboard
the computer does not turn on only when cold starting, if you press the reset button it turns on and the following time it works normally
sounds like a possible short circuit post some pictures of the motherboard and wiring on the discord and we can have a look
SOC bios update 27 April dropped
Hey Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland, ich habe ein Paar settings übernommen nur wenn ich den Curve optimizer einstelle erkennt das bios das nicht als neue Änderung an. Was kann ich da tun habe das selbe Motherboard
not sure? i haven't seen that happen before?
My bios seems to freeze whenever I move a mouse or click certain things or try to save my settings and exit. Any fix?
Just fyi. I'm using the same motherboard. Just installed a 7700x and 5600mhz ram cl36
my guess is the cpu needs remounting and maybe the ram to
@@mikesunboxing pc works fine otherwise.
So you reckon I should just remount them?
Thanks for the reply btw!!
@@mikesunboxing
Re sat my RAM sticks and everything seems to work fine now!! Thanks!!!
@@MrZomfgwtfbbq Glad to hear that 🙂
Is there no rgb control in the bios?
only on or off

do you have them in the right slots
@@mikesunboxingmy pc is so slow on booting I did a clean window
if you plan to buy this thing for a modern ryzen cpu: don't
It's nearly impossible to flash that bios and I've been at it for 3 days now. going to RMA that chunk of e-waste

Both xmp and Expo is disabled to me
what RAM and CPU have you got
* CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X
* GPU: Radeon RX6800 XT or the 6950 XT
* Mobo: MSI MAG Tomahawk B650 WIFI
* CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin or DeepCool AK620 (or maybe an AIO Liquid Cooler like the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2)
* RAM: Kingston Fury BEAST RGB 16GB (2x8GB) 5200 CL40 or similar
* PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 750W V2 Fully Modular or similar (min.750W, at least B-Tier)
* Case: So many to choose from but 2 that I like are the Be Quiet! Silent Base 500DX and the Antec NX410 (ideally would like the Hyte Y60 but this is a tad pricey at over £200)
* Monitor: Gigabyte M28U (a 4k one).
sounds good to me, maybe try and get ddr4 5600 or 6000 that is the sweet spot performance wise and ideally CL36 or lower
@@mikesunboxing Cool, thanks. By the way, do you mean DDR5 5600/6000?
I'm building my first ever pc with a
ryzen 9 7900x cpu
Msi mag b650 wifi motherboard
And more
Regarding the bios update and win11 installation after the pc is assembled
Correct me where I'm wrong
1.Boot into bios by oressing the del key
2. Use M-flash to update the bios by use of a usb syick with the latest bios version
3.change the boot drive to the usb stick with the win11 installation
4.go through the prompts and select the ssd for installing win11
5.let it copy the win11 file
6. Removethr usb stick after this
7. let the pc install win11
sounds good to me
@@mikesunboxing thanks man
