- How to setup and control AIO water cooling and PC fans In BIOS or Windows MSI Version
long deep dive into how to setup and control water pump, CPU cooler and case fans using both the BIOS settings and MSI center for more precise control.
Explaining in detail the terminally and hopefully breaking it down into common english so it is easier to understand and give you the power to take control of your system fans and make it cooler or quieter, or maybe somewhere in between.

Amazing video! Finally someone who explained everything in easy to understand words. Subbed!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial, Mike! Awesome as always!
My pleasure! hope you are all well there?
hey mike. i commented on your live stream yesterday. this helped me so much. and i now know where i was going wrong. my fans in the front of my case are 3 pin dc and the rest are 4 pin. ive now changed these settings in the bios and the unervolt on my cpu are no longer needed. my temp's are so much better now. i didnt realise the fans were that different until i saw this video. thanks alot mike 🙂
awesome glad the information helped
Nicely explained for dummies like me.Thank you Mike 👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
it was actually a response from another UA-cam creator that was pretty critical of my previous attempts so hopefully this will pacify him

Great tutorial, thanks professor Mike.
My pleasure!
GREAT VIDEO! So helpful. My son's MSI gaming PC was not cooling properly after a recent power outage. Something got scrambled, as the CPU temp was at 210 degrees fahrenheit while idling (sans gameplay). The video was a great resource for how to monitor and adjust these settings - both in the BIOS and in Windows. CPU temp is back within normal limits and what you'd expect based on usage. THANK YOU!
Glad it helped! really nice to hear stories like this
Great Vid with the usual great presentation, thanks Mike. As I understand it you probably need to 'double check' all your BIOS (UEFI) settings following a bios update (& sometimes a windows update) which is a bit annoying as it means re-doing your settings (Ram, fans etc.)...My guess is that why you (mgriffes) had the issue with your sons PC.
Thank you, now I have a better understanding on how to set up my fans.
Awesome, really good video. I managed to quickly fix my cooling settings in bios after my pc shut down. Watching at 1.5 speed i managed to do it fast enough to reconnect to my multiplier match.
Glad it helped!
Thanks Mike and Kath, saved this one for later
Excellent!
Thanks for that, something I am yet to get round to; trying to run a quiet as possible machine, fqn control is definitely important. 👍
yeah for me having to actually make videos in the same room, fan control is extremely important
Really nice explanation. Thank you !

Obrigado pelo video, me ajudou bastante.
My gamemax Argb 3pk PWM in for the hub doesn't have a "TACH" cable, it works but there's no RMP - This vid cleared up some of my confusions.👍👍
Great tutorial Mike and very thorough. Reinforces your previous videos albeit I do have one question and that is which takes precedent over fan control, the bios or the msi centre in this video? Thanks again Mike and Kath 🐈👍
the bios controls the fans etc using the bios set curve and will carry on until the software loads in you have installed it hope that makes sense?
Hello, I wanted to share happiness with you Mike. I've just bought, MSİ Z790 gaming plus motherboard with a 360L ARGB. Also 14th gen, 14700K
After I setup the fan speeds like you, I dont get any more than 27 C CPU degree on idle. Also, CPU socket temp is no more than 25.

Always make sure that if you have a mobo that doesn’t have a pump header, and u just use the 4 pin cpu fan into a 3 pin radiator then make sure that you change the setting in the bios to dc instead of default pwm.
Nice review. MSI make it pretty easy. Mike can you need to review fancontrol
i looked at fan control and got lost in it very quickly, but might have another go to see if it has become more user friendly
@@mikesunboxing it's easy. I will look for a guide . Jaz2cents did one.
Also use PWM fans
Nice vid mike I stopped useing the mobo for my fans and started using a piece of software called fan control. I'd advise every one to give this a look can even set your gpu to the curve if it's an nvidia card, it's also free though there is an option to donate to the bloke who developed it..
Thanks for the info
Hey Mike, this might sound like a stupid question, but are your case fans supposed to ramp up in speed when your CPU is under load?
I just ran a cinebench multicore test and used HWinfo to monitor fan speeds, but didn't notice my case fans actually spinning any faster. My CPU temps were well under control, so I believe my CPU cooler fans were spinning faster, it's just the rest weren't.
Is this normal PWM fan behaviour? I have them configured much like the video where they are supposed to ramp up according to CPU sensors.
Yes they should based on cpu temp usually
Nice video mate. One thing. Looking at the bios have you only got one system fan?
One header connected to a hub and 5 fans all the same speed
Thanks for the reply mate. I've one more question. Is you're preference to have the MB control all case fans as opposed to say the pc case doing that like on the Be Quiet 802?
@@tonysopranosleftnut there are very few cases that have fan speed controllers so i don't have much experience of that, generally the motherboard bios or motherboard software will give much more control
I seldom to never like, comment and subscribe even if the video helped me. But you deserve this one mate. Kudos and continue helping more people with your awesome videos! 🥳
Much appreciated!
Love the video, I have a question though, I have the Lian Fans that go thru a controller that's hooked up to the mb by usb. Ek AIO plug is hooked up to pump fan. So how do I set these in the L-3 app?
ek in the bios , lain li in the aPP
Looking forward to a similar video for asrock b650 boards 🙃

In the msi center, at minute 24:12, what do the Software Control Mode switches for CPU and Fan do mean?
that is to enable the MSI software to control the CPU overclocks etc and the msi user scenario to control fans in windows, with these in the off position the BIOS controls them
Cool
How did you get to the hardware monitor?
question: if i set the fan curves in the BIOS then play with the curve in MSI Center and find the best curve to my liking and performance, do i have to copy those again back to the BIOS to finalize it?
no the bios settings work whilst in the bios and only in windows if dragon center or msi center is not installed, IF msi center is installed the settings will kick in after windows has booted and the software has started
Great video, Thanks Mike! I do have a question for you. I have a DeepCool LT720 cooler on a MSI board. When I first turn my PC on, the PUMP fan will run around ~3100rpm, but after a few minutes the PUMP fan will decrease to ~2400rpm. After the PUMP fan drops to ~2400rpm, I tried adjusting the configuration on both the BIOS and MSI center but no matter how I change the settings, the PUMP fan stays stuck at ~2400rpm. Any tips, advice, or recommendations would be very much appreciated! Thanks again Mike

sounds like the pump aio header is set for the wrong type of device, i can't remember if the pump is three pin or 4 pin. either set to PWM or DC and you should be to control it either in the bios or the user scenario section of msi center
Thank you for this video! I tried to follow these steps, but I'm facing a weird issue. My case has 6 fans + an AIO 360 liquid cooling with 3 fans. On the Hardware Monitor dashboard, when I try to set a fan-curve for the CPU fan, nothing changes and the RPM remains constant (around 3100 RPM). When I change the "PUMP" fan curve, it affects "all" the fans (6 fans + 3 fans on the liquid cooler). And when I try to change "System 1" fan curve (the only system fan that shows a number), the RPM number does change, but I don't see any changes in any of the fans.
This was a pre-built system and when it came out of the box, all the fans were set to run at full blast all the time, and it was extremely loud, so I was looking for ways to adjust the fan curves. I would truly appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you.🙏

Are MSI center balanced option and smart fan curve in bios good enough? It seems that my coolers are working even when the computer is idle, with really cold air coming from them. I have 6 coolers + 2 for CPU. I am a bit afraid to experiment in the bios as a total beginner....

Hello Mike, I bought the "MSI MODERN AM242P 12M i7-1260P" model Allinone. There is no section called "User Scenario" in MSI Center. That's why I can't adjust fan settings. Is there any other way to solve this problem? Or should we wait for a new update or use an old version? Thanks
if the software is not available in the MSI center that means it is not compatible with the motherboard, but bear in mind you have to add user scenario as a feature from the list of available modules, it isn't installed as a default
Hey what ram are u using ? I have to msi tomahawk x760e and fury ram compatible for Intel and amd but in bios showing only A XMP profiles. Should I use specific for amd made ram with expo option in bios?
expo is for AMD motherboards and processor, XMP is for intel
so what is the best setup for exoust fan mode? would be fine smiliar like the CPU fan curve ?
yes really, it depends on your setup and noise levels, but the principle is the same for intake or exhaust really
I have the thermalright peerless assassin 120 se Argb, and have the 7800x3d ! Any fan curve settings ? I currently am idling around 41-42 ! Is that good or should be lower?
sounds about right, most am5 with tower or aio will be high thirties low fourties
I noticed you mentioned Dragon Centre on another vid, after I had installed MSI centre, MSI centre was awful, from false positive virus alerts on download & this was a new this week version from MSI not MS Store, the mystic light software was glitchy and nothing else would install via the "app" part, Uninstalled and cleared my reg of MSI Centre. So I remembered "Dragon" & went hunting, it's much better software & being a new build & new to Argb firmware I nearly did the firmware update thinking my firmware was out of whack - Maybe a PSA on this topic or thoughts on each bit of software?✌
there is a virus version of msi center, but the official one from the microsoft store is 100% legit, but i will have a look and maybe a PSA
@@mikesunboxing I agree, however the MSI forum, as I noted that all "Features" in the MS store version would download but "installed fail" at every attempt. Then I found the forum and found MSI centre on the MSI support pages, however that virus/glitched with Mystic Lights and wouldn't install the "User Scenarios" hence the wipe, Dragon seems to be stable for me and your tutorial also translated to dragon for me - Kudos - Have a look at the forum I don't want to post links on YT you might not see em.
For the algorithm 💪🥰😇👍

Does MSI Center have to be running if I'm using it to control fan speed? Or does it change the system settings for me, after which I can close it?

Hi Short Question i Have an Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 A-RGB the thing is The Pump, Fans and the Little fan on the AIO are all connected on one Cable so they´re on the connected on the Pump_Fan1 on my Board now i dont know if i should let it Stay on the Max or if i should turn on Smart Fan Mode cause i´m not sure if this is Good for the Pump if i turn it on.
Also teh Problem is thet the Fans are a bit Loud like Pulsing cause the RPM are changingn evertime so maybe you can Help me should i turn Smart Fan mode on or off ?
the single PWM plug should be on the CPU header so it can regulate speed based on the CPU changes. set to smart fan and something like 20% at 20c 40% at 40c 60% at 60c and 100% at 70c
is it ok to plug 3pin on a 4pin cpu fan header on mobo? and i have a corsair icue h115i aio
3 pin should really go to the aio pump header if you can

Very good video, however if in my curve I specify that at 40 degrees my fan must turn at 30%, if 30% is not enough to stabilize the processor at 40 degrees, the heat will therefore increase and consequently increase fan speed? So what are the settings for?
I hope my message is clear because I'm having trouble cooling my 7800X3D with a 240mm AIO without making too much noise.
The AIO fans are at 50% for desktop use and the CPU is at 50 degrees... that's a lot of noise
For example, if at 50 degrees I order my fan to turn at 5%? CPU heat will increase because 5% is not enough to maintain 50 degrees.
The setting is therefore useless so why not leave it on automatic?
the settings are not for setting the CPU temp, just for setting the fan speeds at the systems CPU temp.
7800x3d is a pretty warm CPU and by design it tries to reach 90c regardless.
So either decrease the fan rpms to get it quiet, or undervolt or limit the CPU wattage to make the CPU meet your temperature requirements.
The "normal" idle temps for the CPU is between 40-60c so your 30c setting is way to low, at least for the CPU In it's default setup.
join our discord for ways to reduce the temps
what is the disadvantage of setting your cpu fans/system fans to 100% RPM all the time? woudnt that be good because it will keep your system cool = better performance?
it would be noisy
@@mikesunboxing other than noise will having it run in 100% speed make it perform better due to lower temps and will it affect the longetivity of fans if you keep in in 100% than having it changing from time to time due to fan curves? i dont find my fans 100% speed really noisy
Hi Mike! I put my Pc on sleep mode with an MSI motherboard and Lian Li Cool 216 RGB case which has 2 160mm in the front. After I turned my Pc on again the top front fan doesn't spin anymore. How can I fix this? Thank you!

Hiya, so I'm using the Lian Li Galahad AIO, I have set the speed to 100% at all times within MSI Center, however every now and then the stats of the CPU and the pump freeze and stop reading, when this happens I also lose control of the pump speed and the pump seems to run at the RPM set within BIOS. I think this is causing my pump to cut out as you stated in the video, as when my CPU temp gets to around 36c the RPM drops to 0, then as the CPU temp heats up again it kicks back in. Again none of this is showing is MSI Center I'm currently having to use NZXT CAM to give me readings. Anyone know why MSI Center is bugging out on me like this? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
set the pump speed to 100% in the bios and see what happens. if the fan control is getting issues in windows and reverting to BIOS settings that should help
But if we keep the pump at 100% all the time it can cause pump failure right? It happened with me with my arctic liquid freezer 360
pumps fail for many reasons, some prefer the constant load some don't but they should all be able to run 100% all the time or they are not fit for purpose
Maybe I should have msi center a second look if that prevent me to setup my fans in bios every time I update it... 🤔
i really like it, pretty low overhead and all the tools you need
Be careful with MSI center fan adjusting. Can brick your system. If that happens run windows 11 in safemode and disable msi center under startup apps and change it in bios to "unbrick" system again. If you still want to use MSI center uninstall it first (all data of the program) and then reinstall it afterwards. Stick to bios imo :)
weird not heard of that before
Hi, Mike. As I've said before, I like to set my fans and pump running at 100%. I tried MSI center and didn't like it because it tried to takeover everything on my motherboard. The only RGB software I use is OpenRGB.

I personally wish companies would get off their high horse 🐎 and realise creating proprietary connectors is stupid and wasteful (cough* apple connectors)🤣😂😅 forcing you to choose a rgb/fan hub with particular company fans is a bugbear for many. I personally don’t use rgb fans (although a couple rgb light bars I don’t mind) and try to eliminate any unnecessary cabling in my builds
yeah i agree totally
If you never change the connector you risk being held back by old connections “because of connecability”
Considering its a plastic mould that houses cables in most cases… you could have proprietary connectors on everything… the only issue being a hassle to the user.
I am pissed oof that i cant use Corsair fans with my MSI build.. i spent £300 on fans only for them to be incompatible out the box..
But all i had to do was get other ones..
When i rebuilt the mac i have owned.. i search parts buy parts & parts fit & work..
no RGB no BS.. so for all the proprietary connectors they make no problems during the build.
The issue comes when you want to use previous models parts in a later one.
Again no big deal.
My pump fan won't change for AIO. Just stays around 5400 rpm no matter what I do.
might need to change the header type in the bios, although some pumps are fixed rpm
Thanks. Seems to be doing its job as intended maintaining 30c at Idle and around 50c playing Fortnite. I guess if it starts whining at me I'll be worried lol
