I have had a long, hard fought battle with my HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 using refilled printer cartridges. I finally got it to work!!!! I turned off the chip as shown in this video and it still wouldn't print. I found another video by Sue Jones. She has several recommendations. The one that worked for me was to simply unplug the printer then plug it back in. Then hold down the on/off switch for about 10 seconds. This resets the printer. I was printing on cheap copy paper and the print quality wasn't good but at least in was actually printing. So I changed the paper type to HP Photo Papers and voila, it worked!!!! I've been printing every since. Thank you Kevin and Sue for your help. I was ready to throw this printer into the trash!!!

Thank you so much! I was looking for this solution to my ink problem for a long time now. I refilled my hp cartridges, turned off this setting, but still no color except black was produced in my test sheets. Turn the power off. I took off the cartridges and cleaned the circle heads where the cartridge and printer head meet exactly. It took several self-maintenance head cleanings and print reports to get color flowing again. I still get low ink warnings, but I just ignore them because I know my cartridges are full. I'll top them off again when ink levels are low. I'll know when once color quality in my prints are mediocre. I know this won't solve everyone problem. Good luck to everyone!
Depending on your printer, if your printer is not reading the cartridge or says it's corrupted but you just refilled it you can do this but at your own risk: When refilling the cartridge take off the top paper completely, you'll see a circular indentation to the right of the refill hole. After refilling use a tip of pen cap or something strong and press that circular depression 10 to 15 seconds, but do not puncture it... That resets the cartridge and usually you can use again with great success...

My HP564 now prints in light grey. Is this another scam by HP to deter people from refilling their cartridges? 2 months ago I refilled, and hit "OK" when my printer said the cartridges were empty. Very helpful video. Thank you. The carriage on my HP Officejet 6968 hangs up at the right end. The ink catch basin(or whatever it is) that extends underneath the carriage when it is parked on the right, fails to fully retract like it use to, causing the carriage to hang up, when it tries to move left, triggering a false paper jam error. There is no indication of gear slippage or broken pieces of plastic observed anywhere. The printer is about 3yrs old. Was working fine until out of the blue, the catch basin begin stopping right in the line of travel of the carriage causing it to hang up. Any idea what is causing this problem? Thank you.

Hello, I’d like to ask a question I have about my HP office jet pro 8710 if I may. I have original Cartridges along with a set of aftermarket cartridges. My question is, when I replaced the original cartridges with the aftermarket ones my printer was complaining about them of corse but the printer was not reporting the proper ink level. The replaced cartridges were actually full. The printer says that the “new” cartridges are genuine but previously use and say they may be counterfeit. Is there a way to reset the chip on the cartridge so the printer reports them as full with using the printer? Furthermore I have auto updates off and sending Anonymous information is disabled as well. Any info I would appreciate! Thank you.
Hey, I'm not sure if you've solved your problem, but yours sounds similar to mine. I have the 8715 (same as 8710 to my understanding) and here's what I've learned. The only way to reset the cartridge level is, I believe, to replace the chip. There seems to be no way to reset the page number on the chip without replacing it. It sounds like your aftermarket cartridges are actually refilled, but genuine, HP cartridges. Once the chip is replaced with a third party/aftermarket chip, your printer will say the cartridge is not genuine. Just keep those usage data storing, auto updates and sending anon info turned off. I followed a YT video and did that as well, though after doing so, my setting for tracking usage data has disappeared completely. The only way to tell when your cartridges are low is by them running out while printing something. But to me, that's SO worth it to pay ~$6-$45 per XL cartridge sets. The $6 figure is if you buy a refill kit and do it yourself, $45 is buying a 3rd party XL cartridge set on Amazon. I bought a refill kit and refilled my original HP cartridges, but came to find out that I couldn't reset the data on the cartridges without getting a new chip (which I can't find). Hope this helps.
