Jen - Can you PLEASE look into wether the Makeup Revolution eyeshadow formula is the same (or different) for US vs UK? I just can’t understand how so many people love the Revolution eyeshadow formula in the UK. Honestly, in the United States the eyeshadow formula is awful! I know the FDA has restrictions for the US and maybe that is why the formula is different. I would really like to know.
This is the same in Australia too. The Makeup revolution eyeshadow formula smells and beads up as if it’s mostly made of talc

Wow, that’s interesting because I consistently as long as I’ve watched YT here the formula is AWFUL. Mant YTers here never even use their palettes in reviews or full faces. That’s interesting. (I’m in US) so, is it considered a decent brand for palettes where you are? I’d love her to look into that && she’d be the one to do it well!
I'm in the US and I've had a couple MR palettes that were solidly good, but most of the others were awful. My beef with MR is inconsistency and the fact that about 40-50% of what I buy from them sucks, while the rest end up being reliable staples.
I don’t believe for a second that any celebrity is using their own skincare line. The celebrity makeup lines… I think it depends on the celebrity. Selena Gomez is killing it! I’m open to trying the makeup, but I don’t mess around with my skincare.
"Color like you own it" strikes me as being a play on 'wear it like you own it,' which means wear it with confidence and is usually used when a look is more bold.

They all can go! I can do without any of those lines, there is always something better out there.
As a Black woman, I’m happy for anyone who wants to make products accessible to my community at an affordable price. It costs little and I have wasted tons of money on products that did nothing at a much higher price point. I think more people are concerned that the targeted market is stated as “melanin rich” and if it’s successful, will work to change the focus of it to themselves, as they did with our hair care.
The concern for me is that the claim doesn’t hold meaning because skin tone doesn’t effect if our skin loses more moisture or not, so if the marketing is successful how many other brands are going to make unfounded claims to get our money? It’s nice that John wants to be inclusive, but the way he went about it was wrong. There are plenty of brands that cater to us and don’t make bogus claims doing it.

I can't be mad at a celebrity brand that focuses on darker skin tones with melanin skin as a priority, providing that isn't just a gimmick and that these products are actually good for people with colour. I'm impressed with the price point too
I agree with you. I am extremely pale, and I find it hard finding make up light enough for me. I wish more brands had foundations late enough for me.
@@cheerlovatic1022 for me the issue is with undertones. There are plenty of pale shades but they all are either neutral or warm.
Add me to the pale with cool undertones list. I found some help with products ... UA-camr Zabrena has my exact skin shade, foundations that match her skin will match mine. Our skins are very different in other factors, I just use her suggestions for color matching.
As far as melanin rich skin, I would love to see scientific research that different skin colors have different product needs, above and beyond other factors (dryness, acne, wrinkles, etc.)
It’s a bit nonsensical though. I’m black and think it makes more sense to have a makeup line that’s catered to melanin rich skin instead of a skincare line because skin tone doesn’t have bearing on whether or not your skin loses moisture more quickly. Your skin type does. It’s nice that John wanted a skincare line that’s inclusive, but as said in the video these products aren’t better for melanin rich skin and it’s truly Jaír marketing. The one thing that anyone with melanin rich skin should be concerned about are using acids like glycolic acid or strong acids because it can give us light spots or post-inflammatory spots that make your skin turn darker.
@@cheerlovatic1022 if you don't already, look at colour mixers that are just pigment so don't alter the formula. LA girl has great ones including white
I purchased the Korn palette the other day. The nostalgia factor really got me, I remember waiting for the record store to open the day the album launched in 98 or whenever. I really feel for the Evanescence fans.
I worked at Tower Records when that album was released and Korn came in to do a cd signing for the day. It was so exciting because I was a huge fan at the time. I got to meet the band and take pics.
Aaaahhh I'm so jealous! I saw an email from Hipdot about it, and idk how long it had been since launching but it was sold out. 😭 I was such a huge fan in middle/high school, I listened to Freak on a Leash until that CD died lol. I hope the restock doesn't take long!!
Yeah the nostalgia, I was a huge korn fan and they're from my hometown Bakersfield and I've seen them out and about before, I bumped Into fieldy by accident at the mall and I've met Jonathan Davis and his sister and his half brother Mark Chavez, I've drove past them on the rich side of town
No one deserves money from that fraud of a class action lawsuit so that’s an upside. I’m also hoping Morphe’s footprint in Ulta will shrink and make room for other “drug store” brands.

Same! We have Morphe 2 in my local target and let me say I was *so* offended! The audacity…. I hope their display will make room for the tiny beauty bakerie and TLB stands that are right behind it. Morphe overshadowing two amazing black woman-owned brands in my target is honestly so poetic.
@@fabh9674 and everything I've ever tried from morphe was absolute trash the hype was insane and it's terrible the eyeshadow is not as good as the 4 dollar essence palettes.

Evanescence was LITERALLY the album of my sulky teen- just turned adult years. I remember listening to the CD over and over in my car. 😂 It was 100% at the front of my CD case.

Revolution sounds like the company I work. Several years ago they finally got rid of the CEO who treated the company like his own personal checking account and just about caused a bankruptcy with all of us losing our jobs. An investment company bought us, went through all the books, cleaned house, and now we are doing well and paying down our debt consistently, and are very financially healthy. When the leaders of companies are shady and treat a company like their personal checking account the only people who lose are their employees. By the way the people who work in accounting and accounts receivable at Revolution probably were up in arms about that purchase of the backdoor invoicing crap, big NO NO.

I picked up an Essence palette that I thought was twelve bucks and it cost me less than four! And it’s really good. Proves that a lot,of expensive makeup is just the same stuff amped up with advertising.

I'm a little surprised at the cost of Revlon lipstick being almost $13. The last time I bought a drug store lipstick it was $8 or $9. I'd rather spend a few extra bucks for a higher end brand.
Higher end lipsticks often run $28 and up to $60 or more!
@@Patriot1789Most of the time you can get high end lipsticks on sale at $12-$18. I picked up quite a few PML at $12 they usually run about $45 each.
Revlon lipsticks are on Amazon way cheaper

@@BlingyBea That's alao why I never buy my drugstore makeup at a trading drugstore, like CVS & Walgreens. I usually find the best prices on either Amazon, Target or Walmart. The 'drugstore' markup is INSANE.
Kinda rooting for Revlon myself. I just tried their creamy matte lip formula recently and was impressed. Reminds me of my higher end lipsticks and they have so. many. colors.

She uses faster shipping just before the holidays. Jeffree Star does the same. She also processes faster during the holidays.
I prefer the ink pot style liquid liners. They are much easier to use for me. That’s what I learned with. The felt pens I just hate. They are not smooth, they dry out before you get one eye done, they are hard and just super annoying. The brush tip pens aren’t bad, though.
You make the pink eyeshadow look so pretty and wearable! I need a tutorial of your look, somehow, someway…. I usually really do not like pink eyeshadow on me, but this look you did is something I’d love to try!
I remember when Bliss used to be a high end line, before its sale to LVMH in 1999 . They had a yummy, scrubby peppermint soap which was *huge* -- 200 g. if I remember correctly. It was actually easier to handle if it was cut in half. There was also a body wash I liked, blood orange and white pepper. Expensive but lovely.
This explains why I’ve seen Bliss all over sm recently. There has been a hard influencer push. Which I’ve never noticed from them before.
Can you talk about how companies can do more makeup recycling? I'm currently doing a purge of my makeup and it makes me feel so bad that all of this unsustainable packaging is just going in the trash.

I feel the same way. That's one reason I won't throw anything out. I wish brands couldn't make things that couldn't be recycled. It should be a rule that it has to be refillable or made of post consumer materials or whatever or be recyclable.
@@sherryelle225 I say this all the time, and not just about makeup. I think disposable products should have to be recyclable before coming to market. Period. Absolute bs that they push it onto the consumer. Arghhh. Thank you for listening to me vent. 😅

More brands are now offering refills, or using recyclable materials to make packaging, but I’d like to see this happening at the drug store level since imo, this is where brands aren’t quite doing their due diligence.
Revolution helped me getting into makeup, but they have lost me with constant releases and inconsistent products. Only if they kept things simple then maybe i would have been fond of them
I want the korn palette!!! They have been my fave band for well over 20 yrs and been to see them in concert soooo many times! More than anyone else! I cannot wait for the restock! I can't believe I missed put originally! No one was talking about it! Ugh!
I lost all my korn stuff, concert shirts and autographed pics etc, I even had a korn skateboard that I lost...I would have definitely bought that korn palette just for the nostalgia, I didn't even know it released 😅
The thing that concerns and (makes me sad) about the revolution beauty thing is that they brought BH Cosmetics last year.... I worried me when I heard the news about the sale regarding the future of BH but now it think its safe to say the concerns may be valued...

Glow in Rose Pink on Friday, tried it Saturday. Went to dinner, ran a few errands, and when I got home, it was gone! I have enough cream
blushes in my own inventory that I don’t need one that doesn’t work. I’ll give it another shot but I think this one is going back to Ulta.

When it comes to pen or dip eyeliners I have to say that I love that dip one slightly more than the pen. I use both of them but I can get a better thin line for my middle aged hooded eyes than the pen. But I started using dip liquid eyeliner at 13 years old so I've had a whole lot of practice.
Ve cosmetics has done the best band collabs, the 2 pallettes they've done with cradle of filth are divine!
I swear, the formulas/quality of Bliss products better not change... I've been using the Bliss Cloud 9 Body Lotion for the past few months, and it is AMAZING! Super light weight, but also super hydrating and no residue left behind.
The PMG blushes aren't new colors, but Desert Orchid is such a gorgeous shade. I'll never pan mine, but I enjoy seeing it get some love.
Revolution is gonna have to buy even more of their own stuff with all those releases 🤣🤣
I don’t know about the skincare line, however I will agree that a lot of skincare conversations show and center lighter skin. I had to learn how to take care of my skin differently as I have darker skin. Whether hyperpigmentation or scars. It’s also an issue in the medical industry around the cluelessness on how things look on darker skin.
I’m not a fan of the claims because they aren’t true, and if he really did his research, I feel like he would have included that our skin is sensitive to certain ingredients like acids, in the sense certain acids aren’t recommended for darker skin due to their negative effects like causing light spots and PIH, cuz otherwise he’s just releasing basic moisturizing skincare that anyone can use. I think Urban Skin RX and Black Girl Sunscreen are good examples of products and marketing be sure they don’t make unfounded claims, the products have good reviews, and they market to us in a way that make sense.

To be honest , i’m actually interested in the John Legends skin care line, because the ingredients sound more suitable for my skin type. I have hyper pigmentation and oily skin even though i’m 54. Definitely will look at the SPF products. It is such a struggle to find affordable spf 30 minimum that doesn’t leave a white cast and isn’t extremely greasy on my oily skin.
Have you tried the eucerin face sunscreens? The oil control & the age defense versions work well & dry down pretty fast. Pump is also a plus.

It's me I'm the person who like dip liners waaay better than pen liners. It's way easier to control the flow of product for me with the dip liner where I feel like the pens are constantly drying out mid line and you have to go over it more than once to get a uniform line

I do prefer dip liners as I find the pens harder to use and I love a really matte finish! I'd use a pen liner though if I had to 😂
Why are so many makeup companies launching (even more affordable brands) during a recession like they don't know what's going on?
I knew 2 brothers that started there business in are recession. That was over 25 yrs ago!
Recessions are actually the best time to start a business, since there's nowhere to go but up
Because as another commenter said recessions are the perfect time to launch, especially affordable options because if people are saving money and not buying their regular brands, making a more affordable option available will help stimulate more sales for the brand. Then when the recession is over sales for their original line will start back up and they’ll have their more affordable option on standby in case another recession happens.
As opposed to launching a high end product?
Google the lipstick index! It’s the theory that sales of affordable luxuries, such as lipstick, rise in economic downturns
Honestly, I feel like a dip liner isn't an outdated product. I personally see a lot more graphic liner looks, and those are usually done with water activated liners in pots. So I think a lot of people still would use it. But I don't do eyeliner, so im not that girl🤷♀️

omg, Korn, Evanescence and Cradle of Filth are bands I haven't heard about in a really long time. I remember listening to them in high school. The Evanescence palette looks like it was just taking colors from the image of the first album cover, and the Korn one looks similar to the colors from Follow The Leader which came out in like, 1998 or 1999. Both collabs look like the bands weren't even an actual collaboration but more of an "inspired by".
Benzoyl peroxide in some sunscreens should not be combined with vitamin c, they deactivate each other.
Word of advice, before buying sunscreen with vitamin c, check if it does not contain the two ingredients together 🤔
I haven’t seen any Lipstick Queen products for sale in ages. The last places I saw any were at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s maybe this past September or so.
A great tip form Angie N. for wearing red eyeshadow is to make it look intentional. Game changer!

I’m a casual Evanessence fan, but it sold out so stupid fast! I literally checked my email, saw a new one come in from Hipdot (MCR collab got me lol), clicked on the link and it was already gone. Like Indie multichromes don’t sell out that fast! But then Angie Nyqvist pointed out that there’s a pressed glitter in the palette, so I think I’m good.

Dip liners are my fave they do require the most skill but they are what’s best for detailed graphic liner

There's an spf spray by a brand called Habit, and it's really nice. It makes my skin SO Dewy, I love it. And now they're at Sephora so they're easier to pick up. I don't use it as my main sunscreen, I just use it to reapply if I'm wearing makeup.
intriguing bc how else could you possibly reapply sunscreen with makeup on?? if it actually works and doesn’t mess up my look, I’d be into it
there's been so much stuff that's happened with Jaclyn in the past that i wouldn't want to give the impression it should all be excused. but the way everything has played out with Morphe & Forma brands as a whole.. there's a part of me that now wonders if she really was just never being informed of what was happening behind the scenes when all the scandals from collabs & initial Jaclyn Cosmetics launches happened. like, everyone has always felt she was the queen of excuses saying she just didn't know.. well it seems much more possible that's true now that we saw Morphe close literally every U.S. store in like 2 weeks time with no communication to anyone who worked for them. (i'm not saying she hasn't still done unrelated stuff that's shady, i'm just saying maybe the blame placed on her for some of her past issues may have been overkill now that we see how those companies operate.)

I think bliss has an amazing sunscreen that I've purchased numerous times. I also like their vitamin c brightening moisturizer in an orange container
I'm sick of celebrity makeup and skincare brands that don't do the research and their due diligence. 😒 I do think that John Legend seems sincere, and I like his price point.
You can seriously find basically the entire Laura Geller line in TJ Maxx, Ross, and Marshall's. Idk how well they could be doing, they've been a staple in TJ Maxx since 2018 when I started shopping there🤷♀️
Jen, I love your eye look. I’m interested in the Essence Welcome to Marrakesh eyeshadow palette. Some of those colors are absolutely gorgeous and I really enjoyed the formula in the Hallo Berlin! Palette. I have really enjoyed the items I have purchased from Revlon and hope they can turn it around. I saw the LA Girl eyeshadow quads and not only are the pretty but the packaging is next level. Re everyone complaining about eyeshadow quality. Literally every eyeshadow was crap until the Urban Decay Naked Palette. Didn’t matter if it was department store or not. You would go to department stores for the colors because the drugstore was pretty basic. But the formulations were all powdery and non uniform in quality or instantly creasing. I love the bitching around this topic because formulations uniformly across the board are better but people seem very exercised about brand quality and expect much better from the drugstore. Have I bought vastly different quality stuff from the same brand? Yes, it’s puzzling given shadows overall are much better.
I sound just like a Boomer. When I was young, we mined our own talc and we liked it! All we had was Maybelline Great Lash mascara and Revlon Fire and Ice lipstick. You don’t know how lucky you are! 😂
