The whole point of makeup reviews on social media is that people were sick and tired of false advertising. The honesty and reality was refreshing. So no, lying is not okay.
This 👆🏻
You have hit the nail on the head! Ring lights and filters and Facetune all ruined OG Beauty-tube 😢
Absolutely correct!!! I don’t even look at ads or commercials. If something looks interesting, I go STRAIGHT to my fave beauty UA-camrs before I buy anything! ❤❤❤❤
💯👏
That girl tried to sound so smart and so smooth and kept mispronouncing especially. It was driving me bonkers. She really thought she was laying some truth down
Robert Welsh is actually my go-to influencer for reviews, he’s always been very honest with stuff and he actually calls out his past self for bad opinions, I super appreciate that growth mindset.
Yes! I've been telling all of Mikayla's ex-supporters to check him out. Robert has integrity not often seen in the beauty space.
Ive been following him ever since he started the makeup ghost stories. I looove his content and integrity!
robert has been a fave of mine forever. always just gave such good vibes!
Yes, he is my safe space. Love him and his brother.
Yes! I love both Robert and his brother James. I always wait on their reviews before deciding to buy new makeup or skincare. I also check Johnny and Kevin’s opinions from Beautiful and Bothered podcast, too.
James and Robert Welsh! Not only are they trustworthy, but also hilarious imo ❤
I don't like how Robert is saying to give mikayla a break.
We need to put our foot down on false advertising. Not giving people passes when their intent was clear
Most people I've met and know who are funny, have also been the most sincere and honest people.
@@TheNamesAllison I don't disagree that telling others to give her a break is useful when so many went to her to own up to (dis)honesty in not just that video but others of hers as well. But Robert is one of the kindest people within the social media beauty industry and I can see why he's imploring others to be kind as well.
Only reason I clicked on this bc Roberts face was on 😂
I absolutely love them
There is a huge difference between a mascara commercial where it’s so obvious that the model is wearing false lashes and an internet makeup reviewer. Totally different thing.
I don’t even think they are allowed to use false lashes in commercials now tho lol
They aren't allowed to use false lashes in commercials. They tight line, layer and curl the lashes, A LOT.
They have def used fake lashes in makeup commercials but it also states in the commercial in small letters that the model is wearing lash inserts
Say what you want about Mikayla
When she said that this mascara changed her life at the beginning, she was not lying
Her life is never going to be the same after this 😂
😂 I was wondering where this comment was going. You got that right!!
Mikayla needs to stop do a gray sweatshirt video 😂 (and stop the over lining of her lips)
🤔😂👍
😂😂😂🙌
Omg 😂
What a well researched video Jen! You definitely did your homework which is so respected.
^This^ 👏👏👏
I appreciate Jen's research skills and attention to detail so much!
Also - Marlena, I never thanked you for the sweet note in my last Makeup Geek order. Thank you!
@@AllTheHappySquirrels aww glad you got it! I help package some orders so I happened to get yours :)
Aww! Thank you, Marlena! That means a lot!
I agree! Jen's research skills are on point!
I said the same thing when she started doing the deep dives into Morphe’s bankruptcy
i love that robert does bundles of his favorite products instead of a collab because of the responsibility.
I absolutely adore Robert Welsh! He's hilarious, honest and an amazing MUA! He talked about the tiktok situation and is now done with it..not harping or malicious...alot like how you are handling it. Like here's the situation, yes she did this but she's not a bad person. We all make mistakes (glass houses and all that). Love your videos! Keep it up Ms Slueth 🥰😉
So how many times does she have to lie or mislead before she's considered a bad person or untrustworthy?! This wasn't her first time and as long as people keep giving her passes it won't be the last. She has millions now what is a little mascara money to her? Well, for A LOT of us that mascara money comes from long days and long hours working hard for it and don't want to be misled into buying it. She got to where she is because she was a "regular person" and people respected and trusted her genuine opinion. The moment she got paid and got some recognition she changed. I hope people completely quit watching and listening to her. Most of us are sick and tired of liars and grifters.
@@VictoriaMarch13 I think this video was released before Mikayla's "response". I imagine a lot of the ppl who were giving her the benefit of the doubt are no longer doing so. I can't imagine how they would after the way she handled it. All of that to say she's a morally bankrupt influencer and indeed a trash person.
@@VictoriaMarch13I un subscribed to Mikayla after that BS. She's not yrust worthy, and I'm not here for that BS. Love Robert Welsh! ❤
Robert Welsh. Love his reviews. He's always respectful when it comes to things he doesn't like and ALWAYS notates the source of his products. Apparently it's mandatory in the UK, but he does it with grace and style.
Ditto
In the UK they do not play with disclosing, his brother James did a video explaining how he pays his taxes and what he was responsible for when he worked at ASOS and that's why I trust them so much
And he's funny...his videos always have me laughing. Especially the ones with his twin brother James. Hilarious!
Yes, to a point. I remember watching a sponsored video he did with elf and everything went well. But then, there was another video where he mentioned one of the elf products and it was not so good anymore. He could have changed his mind. Everyone is allowed to do that. I tend to trust his reviews more if it's not a sponsored video.
I wish I could get into him, but I just can’t 😭
When you said this is about to get hairy. I nearly fell out my chair. Jen has got jokes! 😂😂😂
😂
🤣😂🤣
I 💀
Things I've learned: Mikayla and Madison are untrustworthy individuals who are okay with deceiving people so long as they're getting paid 👌- A
I couldn’t care less about influencers’ opinions; the POINT is integrity. Lying is lying and it’s wrong, end of story.
My favorite creator is Angelica Nyqvist. Thank you for all your hard work on this, Jen!
For the Mads person, just because "everybody lies" doesn't mean it's ok and the fact that she thinks it's ok is enough reason for never watching her and it's sad that this is what she is telling her audience. Also, not everyone lies on social media. This is infuriating.
Oh when I saw that clip, I was like "is this parody?" because it was just so ridiculously stupid. I mean, "everybody lies, so what's wrong with lies?" 😂 how long did it take her to realize that some people actually have morals/ethics & might have issue w/HER lying to viewers before she deleted that clip?
Ahh that mads person, basically integrity doesn't matter for the money
She made my blood boil
I’m curious about the psychological pathology of individuals who believe that dishonesty is *standard*
Accountability means when someone does something wrong (like lying) you tell them it's wrong and then make sure that you no longer support their lies by no longer associating with them. Saying you're OK with lies means I don't want to associate with you. I don't know when these people OK with lies will see how much they harm themselves and others by never holding anyone or anything accountable. 😐
Seeing the clip of that tiktoker saying it's no big deal that makayla lied is so upsetting. Really gives a look into the way some people think. As a beauty consumer I do care if I'm being lied to and as a beauty content fan it is a terrible feeling that someone you respect and trust is being deceptive.
All she did in that video is expose herself as a liar. If she’s fine with dishonesty, it’s probably because she’s a dishonest person
It’s the logical endpoint of the city girl mentality. Getting a bag is the only thing that matters. Lie, cheat, steal, step over friends, family, strangers, “everyone’s just jealous”, no introspection, no spiritual growth. Our entire society is built on the understanding that lying is wrong, that loyalty to friends and duty to those who look up to you is paramount. They’re literally throwing away the values of humanity.
@@CJAmara that part 👏
Right, like I expect companies to lie to me with their teeny tiny fine print about "lash inserts to dramatize the effect", but our beauty review space grew out of a response to that. Now that these young Zoomers have found themselves rich at age 18, they're pushing our culture backwards, not forwards.
@@kagitsune exactly, if I wanted false advertising I’d watch TV. I come to online spaces to escape that. The whole community formed as a response to that.
It 100% does matter. Lying matters.
I choose my influencers verrrrry carefully.
I found you, and I trust Alexandra Anele, she’s also here on UA-cam. I ADORE her, and have purchased many products she’s recommended because I absolutely trust her.
I’m also 56, so most influencers don’t really appeal to me.
Thank you for all you do!
❤
I trust Robert and James Welsh. The end. They openly disclose sponsorships, gifted items, and things they purchase. They even do update videos if their opinions change for the better or worse, and they decline deals with brands they don't support. I feel their integrity means more than anything and they respect their followers
Shout out to Kathleen Lights, she was the only big influencer that tried to say something about the mascara and then she got massive anxiety for saying it.
Wait I’m just learning about this - did she say something on TT? IG? UA-cam? I love her!
RBK came out on someone's Twitter post and addressed her feelings about the issue
several have said something though. she may have been the first, but more influencers have spoken on it
Kathleen, Antonio Garza, James Charles, RawBeautyKristie, Jeffree Star, Alissa Ashley and Tati have all talked about this drama
L’Oréal Telescopic has been my OG for years so when they came out with the new version I bought it immediately and it’s just as amazing! She shows that in the initial parts of her video….she didn’t need to add the cut with the false lashes! It was gorgeous without! She could have even just said, “and here’s the finished look with falsies!” BOOM, no drama! Instead of lying.
I guess in L'Oreal's eyes, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Frankly, the focus is in the wrong place; L'Oreal needs to take the heat.
@@LocaChoca no, Mikayla needs to be dragged too for lying, she was doubling down
@@niagambino1714 I'm perfectly fine with that. Liars should be punished. L'Oreal does need to be held accountable the most, since they keep incentivizing the sort of behavior. Also they own more than just cosmetics. They own things like sunscreen as well.
@@LocaChoca they def need to, we haven't heard from them on this yet. I think somebody got fired somewhere
Yeah but she double down in the comments and said nooo L’Oréal would never let me do that 🙄can’t wait to see her “apology “ video she is trying to make that lavish wedding money 🤮 makes me sick
No one beats Emily Noel for an honest thorough review!❤
Truth!
Love her too
HAHHA YES JEN VALIDATE US🤘Incredible shit👏 When we were at the Makeup Geek event in Tomball and Marlena was telling us so much more would come out, and how much she TRIED to help Jaclyn with this and TOLD HER not to use this lab….omgggggg this is giving me CHILLS.
Yes!! I know, right???
@@jenluv just 🤯🤯🤯Thank you for your content 👏 WE NEED IT
I think part of the problem with her mascara post is when she got called out for using false lashes she continued to lie in the comments over and over, saying no, that's just the mascara. If she had said you know my bad, I always put on false lashes, and I just did it without thinking and admitted that they were on there it would have been a much different situation. For me the fact that she continued to double and triple down in the comments and stick to the lie really ticked me off because it was basically her trying to convince people that they were stupid and weren't seeing what they were seeing.
EXACTLY! Nothing wrong with falsies, just admit it....we still would have been impressed with the mascara-only footage she did show, and people wouldn't have called her out so hard...
it’s so funny bc the mascara was impressive itself!!! if she just said that she put on lashes at the end like always, no one would care!
She's probably afraid of being demonetized.
TheresaIsDead and Robert Welsh are my trusties
@@ashleykane2895 I saw a DM that Rich Lux got from someone on the "inside", some would say it's Mikayla herself, but it said that L'Oreal wasn't happy with her video (TikTok) and they bullied or pushed her into putting on falsies, AND she has to keep up the video for 30 days or it's a breach of contract. Anyway, the only reason I think it could be true is, as far as I know, that video is still up, and she's been gone for 2 days and has stayed silent.
I don't watch Mikayla, never have and never will but I find it interesting when people are like she deserves grace and it's just a mistake. This did not have to happen. She knowingly decided to deceive her audience but it's supposed to be on everyone else to show compassion and forgiveness. Where in any of this does she show that she cared about her followers? Great video Jen. 💜
Good point, Kalisha!
Or L'oreal was all behind it...
Excellent point Kalisha!
I agree I understand that people Are young and make mistakes and maybe she wanted a lot of money and I'm sure They paid her a ton of money to false advertise I'm positive that they had to OK the video before it went up so they definitely knew about it but at the end of the day she's the person who chose to lie to her audience when you get a platform like this it's a real privilege to be able to have all these people that will follow you and just support you you know and for her to take that and just say ohh well f it I'm going to lie not cool
It's the comments for me. The messy Jeffrey Skeletor resurfaced as per usual to kick her harder, with people cheering him on. People can look past JS's racism, but they draw the line at false makeup reviews.
Side question: how do YOU not have millions of subscribers??? I am a newbie and I think you are the bomb Jen 🙌🙌🙌🙌 thank you for producing some of the best make up related videos I’ve ever watched on here 😍 sending you much love & respect from Down Under 🇦🇺😘
I've been watching Emily Noel for over 10 years and she has never taken a sponsored post. I completely trust her reviews and she's a joy to watch.
The fact that you guys edited it to show the 0.96 cents with Jaclyn raving about how luxurious it was. Perfection.
Absolutely! The editing was top notch!
I get you guys think it's a win, but that's how most businesses work, especially if you are buying things wholesale, there is a major discount. It's called profit.
@@anitanoterajes I didn’t say it was wrong. There are much more fees along with it. That wasn’t all they paid total. I just thought it was a funny edit. As my comment says.
@@anitanoterajes Well, it is a little bit funny because she kept talking about the luxury lipsticks that she wanted to put out. 🤔
Robert Welsh, Sophdoeslife, and Stephanie Toms are my go to for makeup reviews. They have yet to stear me wrong and I love their personalities.
Mine too!
First time viewer; loved your content! I trust Robert Welsh a lot! He's very honest about filters, lighting, and his opinion. Both he an his brother, James, are wonderful.
Edit: 👏 👏!! It’s NOT just mascara!! It’s about integrity, and honesty!! Period! Ps, I just love watching a fellow teacher who loves to do some research! Girl, you’re thorough! Pretty impressive investigative skills!
strongly agree, it’s not just mascara, her career depends on followers, who trust her honesty in her reviews. Like, honesty is essentially the basis of her career, I think, often influencers get way too comfortable with popularity and income, and slip off track, if we’ve seen it so many times before.
exactly!! she would have been better off being honest about throwing the lashes on instead of trying to act like it was all the mascara. I had high hopes for Mikayla but she sold out for a buck and it is sad
I can respect a person who does their homework, I know I don't open my mouth unless I either know already for a fact or I do my research first....integrity is something that at times the only thing your left with, so it's important
I trust James and Robert Welsh. They have been transparent and taught me so much about beauty industry. Especially James, since I'm more in to skincare. And so far he has been honest and clear about all of his sponsored and/or ad content.
YES! Love them!
Me too...I mainly watch Robert's makeup tips...
Same to although I think they try to be too nice sometimes when reviewing some chappy products lol
Same!!
They’re both lovely!!!
For me, the biggest kick in the teeth is that Makayla is one of those influencers whose bread and butter is “I’m not perfect and that’s okay.” But now apparently that’s not okay anymore. And if someone with the money, power and influence that she possesses is admitting that she will never be good enough on her own and so to be acceptable she needs to cheat, what hope is there for the rest of us???
About the mascara issue this is why I only watch and trust 3-4 UA-camrs for skin care and makeup reviews. YOU, Emily Noel, Jessica Braun, and Dr. Dray. Thank you for all the work you do.
I love Dr. Dray...she is informative and I've learned so much from her
Don’t forget Taylor Wynn she’s great ❤
Rawbeautykristi and rachelloves are trust worthy people😊
“Isn’t everything kind of lying?”
So many soulless individuals-I’m thankful for people like Jen, Vivian of Vivian tries, and other people who just tell it like it is about things.
Yeah Vivian has a great sense of humor as well! 😊
That girl that said 'everything is lying' also said 'expecially' so I immediately don't trust her. 🤣
I ❤ Vivian tries!!!
@@nicolekatmi xD Listeeeeeen. When people do that unironically, it immediately invalidates everything they say for me. Expecially, pacifically, myriad of (these are the ones who are trying to sound like they know more, but they didn't take the time to look into how to actually use the word), axe instead of ask...the list goes on. I know I probably miss out on a lot of good info because of that, but I also know I absolutely dodge a lot of bs that way, too.xD
@@misshell2223 She really does! These two are like the big sisters that I never had.
Emily Noel is my top beauty influencer I trust!! She stands by that she is never paid to review anything!! She will openly say when she dislikes something or that isn’t worth the purchase. She loves high end just as much a drug store (even down to dollar tree/family dollar prices/brands).
Emily noel was the one on the top of my head I like her
I love her too!
I LOVE Emily. 💕
Agreed!
Omg I haven’t watched Beauty UA-cam in a while and I’ve completely forgotten about her! I’ll definitely check her out now!
I trust Jessica Braun without question. She's honest, funny, real and never afraid to laugh at herself. Also Andrea Mattilano and Taylor Wynn. Always my go-to influencers.
A few content creators that I love (on UA-cam) are Charlotte Holdcroft, Lisa J, Tara Lynn, and Angie Hot & Flashy. Oh, also Johnny Ross and Risa Does Makeup. I have the dreaded “more mature skin” (age 56), and they create content around that. They’re all pretty funny, and very honest with reviews and presentations. In addition, Johnny Ross creates scenarios at Sephora and the MAC counter where he plays all the characters, and they are accurate af-highly recommend!
Thanks for your super thorough research and presentation, Jen. It’s so appreciated!
I trust that Raw Beauty Kristi, Theresa is Dead, Robert Welsh, Morgan Turner and Jen Luv (obv) give great honest reviews and explain why they personally don’t like the product which I find really helpful
We don’t expect mascara to look like falsies! There’s a reason false lashes and getting lash extensions is so popular-they do things that even the best of mascaras just can’t do.
Good point
Thank you, Jen for being such a staunch advocate for honesty and transparency in the beauty industry! You’ve been my go-to for info and reviews for years and I appreciate your hard work and dedication to the beauty community.
I haven't posted in a while, but I hate how youtube went from honest reviews to people being paid they like stuff. Let's normalize honesty folks. We are real people, all shapes and sizes, looking for truth in beauty products and methods. Love your videos Ms Jen ♡
Hautemess Tom, Kackie Reviews Beauty, Hannah Louise Poston, Robert Welsh, and Teresa is Dead are my favorite beauty creators that give honest reviews.
I love Tara Lynn too!
Shouting one out for Alex Anele.
Agree. Allie Glines too!
Same + Tara Lynn
Tati is honest, maybe it's just because I don't do fillers, I like that she's letting her fillers go and you can tell she's starting to adapt her technique for not having a fat pumped forehead. I'm just older :p
Honestly the " she lied so what" bothered me more than the whole mascara thing. Everyone makes bad choices and it wasnt hers alone as a sponsored post someone from the company approved it. I dont make my purchase decisions on others opinions. Like my daddy use to say, opinions are like anatomy Everyone has one some are.
It made me feel old. Like the “younger generation” feels lying is no big deal?!
It made me feel old. Like the “younger generation” feels lying is no big deal?!
That whole clip made my skin crawl.
When she starts with "Why do you hate people lying?" It made me say "Stop right there and answer that question on your own because that is the reason why" no wonder she didn't provide any good reason of lying just makes you disgusted on her words because it just way too wrong.
Giiirrlll!!! You are dropping Soo much info!!! This video needs to blow up!!! Everyone needs to know all this....I work at Ulta and we're always talking about morphe and their pallettes and we don't sell ANY Jaclyn cosmetics...it's literally collecting dust...just sad
Jen Phelps, Amanda, Steph's Beauty Stash, Allie Glines, Lauren Mae Beauty, Laura Fagelman, Stephanie Marie, Kelly Gooch, Emily Noel, Juicy Jas, Morgan Turner, Lisa J, Makeup Just for Fun and so many more! I enjoy all their unique viewpoints and tastes. I appreciate that the young TikTok woman is brave enough to be honest about advertising being basically lies. People need to hear more of that.
Girl. When people started calling her out in the comments she kept saying no it's not falsies, THAT made it worse. Yes she may keep doing "reviews" in the future but I doubt anyone will trust them. It's called CONSEQUENCES.
Wow! The fact that Tarte spent all that money on the trip and I found out about the foundation they were promoting from Jen’s video 🤣 😂
Jen, I don't watch your videos religiously but when I do- wow! I love your videos! So informative. The beauty industry is just so different now than it was say 10 years ago! So crazy!!!
You are my favourite influencer that I trust 100%. I love how you really get into the itty gritty about the brand, ingredients, legal issues ect. It's like having a chat with your girlfriend instead of the over the top, pushy, fake, buy buy buy feel. Thank you so much for putting in the work and time xx
This was so well put together! 👀
Thank you so much!!! 🤗
@@Zelda_Kitty She lied in the comments when people were asking which falsies she had on, she said it's just the mascara.
Teacher Jen came out today and she did not hold back. I’m living for it.
I'm actually SO STOKED the sparkly lip is in! Makes it super easy to just pop on a lip balm/gloss/oil with a little shimmer, and create the illusion of fuller lips and keeps all the lines and cracking at bay.
Mikayla started this ball rolling when she claimed in a video how stressful and hard it is to be an influencer and she did it in bad taste when she pinned a comment from the person calling her out for it, then she stepped into the topic of drug addiction and recovery about her fiance and his ex that wasn't hers to address, then she blew up at Rich Lux accusing him of trying to ruin her wedding over her putting her fiance out there on social media to be critiqued THEN she does this mascara fiasco....she has been on a steady decline for a bit now, she claims to have social anxiety and eating disorders and a bunch of other things and now it's so damn obvious she hasn't been managing herself, too occupied with weddings, house buying, celeb meet and greets, vacations and PR hauls, unfortunately what goes up always goes back down....she only has herself to blame
I am honestly so over Jaclyn and Mikayla. They are one in the same. I cant deal with the evil they spew and ALWAYS crying victim. I cant support that. Its soooo deep its sick. ❤️❤️❤️ Great video
Who??😅
💯👏 It actually enrages me. I get ao upset at what people let them get away with. If it were ANYONE ELSE...I STG, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE RECOVERED! But NO, those 2 keep getting passes and it makes me sick.
@@battyxdarko I won't lie I gave them my fair share. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But there is a limit to my generosity.
“There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.”

@@battyxdarko JH's reputation alone is not a business model that I would think reputable investors would associate with, giving what we know now. But seems she's just out her shilling.

Jen, you and Jessica Braun are my favorite beauty UA-camrs and I love y’all and trust your judgment and honestly. I’ve bought most my makeup from y’all’s recommendations and enjoyed it all. Truly thank you for sharing and helping us out. Your like my big internet sister! 💛
Jen, thank goodness we do have people like you. Not everyone lies, that’s a crap excuse. I don’t use tiktok and that Maddie person isn’t some one that would resonate with me… but I just appreciate content creators of all kinds that truly put the work in to ensure we have honest, quality, and engaged content.
The craziest thing to me during this video was seeing how much it actually costs to produce makeup. According to the purchase orders, Jaclyn’s lipsticks were only $0.96 to make and the Morphe highlight was $2.52. I knew makeup companies upcharged a ton, but I had no idea that in some cases it’s 20x!!!!
Keep in mind packaging costs. I think these numbers were just the product, not the packaging
Packaging shipping, art design, hiring staff to mail out the product, paying a lease storing the product… advertising, there are a lot of hidden costs- the electricity at the storage facility, her handler fees…
The fascinating thing is how cheap the raw materials must be to make makeup.
@@krikea Not only does packaging cost but it costs to ship that now and all of that et cetera sometimes it comes in free for that but honestly she definitely overturned her quality of garbage
Most of the time, the price markup is high due to better packaging
Oh yeah, it’s bad. I always encourage my clients to buy from professional brands first. They’re tried and tested, effective, long lasting, way cheaper and have huge ranges in both shade and skin type. They put the quality in the ingredients and milling, they don’t spend millions on advertising and the high cost of new releases every other week. They simply have amazing base lines and pass the savings to you. They aren’t in pretty packaging, so you don’t get that amazing feeling of luxury when you use it. However, the quality is just sooo worth it, and I will gladly keep a few shiny high end pieces to make my bag feel nice.
I think part of the mascaragate issue is that there are strict FTC rules about social media advertising and these tiktokers are out here doing whatever they want and believing it's fine. Whether out of ignorance or not. And it does put all influencers in a bad light.
I can count on you for one ! I also like Emily Noel, Theresa is Dead, Kathleen Lights, RBK, and Nadi . I have never felt like they have been shady...just honest about the products. I also used to love JS when he did his " Is it JS approved ?" series. You could also watch him w his own brand and see it perform right on camera. I might get hate for adding him- but I really did like watching his reviews. I came right to your channel to get the TRUE scoop when Mascaragate hit...lol. Also..the OS lipstick launch? Nice. BUT..Ive been using Maybelline 24 hr. Superstay lipcolor for YEARS. Before that they had the lipcolor w a gloss on the other end. It was awesome. Then they were d/c'd & they came out w the 24 hr lipcolor w the clear balm on the other end instead. Ive used it at least 20 yrs. The OS one seems exactly like the old Maybelline one I loved w the gloss.
There are 4...a grand total of 4 influencers, that I completely believe in their makeup reviews. Emily Noel, Taylor Wynn, Jessica Braun and Allie Glines. REAL people who don't think it's okay to lie about products.
Jen Phelps is pretty rad too. No sponsors. I am a color-clown so I watch Angies channel-
Try watching Jen Phelps. You can believe her.
@@shandel499 check out Theresa Is Dead. She reviews lots of indie brand products and colorful stuff, and she’s VERY honest in her reviews. Be forewarned, she cusses like a sailor 😂
@@StillPooh62 also its rare that she uses drugstore products.
I agree with Taylor Wynn, Jessica Braun and Emily Noel but I have issues with Allie she loves everything!
Over the past 2 years I’ve stopped caring a lot about makeup and the online community, but I always tune in for your videos Jen. I trust and appreciate you SO MUCH ❤
SAME
So many mind blowing stories in one video!!! I really enjoyed watching - and I do not agree with influencers lying and I don’t trust most influencers when they’re doing a paid partnership. You’re different though, because you’re always honest. I appreciate you because you’re unique and you do your research well!
Jen, I LOVE the whiteboard explanation XD
"If youre _on_ the point- you dont have legs, [draws legs on the stick person who is on the point], now you _do_ have legs. [Jen continues explaining]" XD
It was cute and informative explanation. Thank you for the education & the laughs, Jen! Keep on bringing true content like this! 🌻
Zabrena is so honest and authentic and I have gotten lots of good products from her recommendations! She needs more recognition!
I've watched her for years. She's great!
Amen!
You're right!
Absolutely!!!💯❤
I love her!
I feel like Oxygen Labs shouldn't be entitled to those funds since they produced those horrible lipsticks. Why should they be paid for unusable products?
Shoddy work is still work?
agree. They should’ve disputed it properly but totally agree.
@@DanielleStarry no, it's still a violation of contract to not deliver what you set your price for. Like if I rent an apartment and then can't live in it because of a mold problem, that rental agreement gets voided.
@@leilaniz5909 Jaclyn’s production disaster is dissimilar
If Jaclyn paid for all the supplies to produce the lipsticks & gave them to the lab to manufacture the lipsticks, then I think she should sue them for damages. If they had the supplies, then they should just take the L on this one bc why did they have animals just walking around in the lab? Jaclyn didn't put them there, that's all on them.
JEN!!!!
Another great video. I’m so excited because I’ve never had so many follow-up notes to contribute before but here’s a novel I drafted in google docs, lol:
JACLYN: I’m immediately reminded of that Marlena Stell video where she said she believed she knew the lab because she ran into Jaclyn there when she was touring potential manufacturers and she straight up warned Jaclyn not to use them. So you could ask Marlena to confirm this for you.
MASCARAGATE: There’s been an earlier video of Mikayla circulating wherein she shows exactly how this deception works, including the lashes she uses to do it.
TARTE: See Angelika Oles’ “Tarte’s brand trip was a FINANCIAL DISASTER...” video. The tea is that this trip was a waste because the influencers they sent barely talked about the product, going so far as to promote other products more-so. One influencer even posted a Charlotte Tilbury sponsored post while she was on this trip! Tarte also published job postings for Trade Marketing Senior Coordinator and Director of Brand Marketing, so the rumor is that these people were fired shortly after this trip disaster. On a personal note, I’m more annoyed by the disconnect between the trip and the product. If the point of the product is maracuja as an ingredient, why wouldn’t you go somewhere this passionfruit actually grows???? Like, they could’ve just gone to Mexico for way less, which would’ve also allowed them to invite some beauty boys too.
KOSAS: See Javon Ford’s ( @Javonford16) reel on instagram. He’s a cosmetic chemist and he talked about the problem with the Kosas concealer.
FENTY: The Fenty X Super Bowl tie-in is happening because Rihanna is actually the Halftime show performer this year!
Okay, I think that’s everything. Sorry for the novel
Thank you for sharing all of this!
@@jenluv you are so welcome!!
Also, wasn't there major drama after the last big Tarte trip? It kind of seems like part of their marketing intent may be to generate outrage with these trips, which... you know, kinda bored by it-which is too bad, because they have a couple of things I wouldn't mind buying again, or trying out. But I find shock advertising and attempts to go viral with "any publicity is good" obnoxious and not worth rewarding.
I watch Nyma Tang, Ohema, Tammi Clarke, Taylor Wynn, Too Much Mouth, Darcei, Samantha Jane, Kinkysweat, and the Welsh twins! They've never steered me wrong thus far.
I trust Cassandra Bankson. I've always appreciated how she goes out of her way to explain the science of what works for different skin types and even different ages. How you can use products from different lines and gives different price options as well. I also tend to trust the Welsh brothers for similar reasons.
I love Cassandra, I've binge-watched all of her videos, I've learnt a lot from her and trust her implicitly. The one single thing that I find annoying, after watching so many videos, is that, because of her mannerisms and way of speaking, she always seems high on amphetamines to me (I know she's not, but you get what I mean...)
She changed my life with her rosacea information. Love her!
I watch you, Jen, as well as Emily Noel, Taylor Wynn and Jessica Braun. ALL trustworthy, honest and genuine. A few others, I see once in awhile but I am very discerning. I get that lying is so acceptable for so many, especially in business, but to me, a liar is a liar. Period.
Was looking for this comment. Love Taylor and Jessica!!
Rach loves is my absolute favorite creator! ❤️❤️❤️ she has two channels, one for beauty and one for home. They are fun and she is honest.
Robert welsh and his “it’s fine” will always assure me when something is shit and I trust that 😂
Allie Glines and Emily Noel are my go to's for finding new makeup. Trust 100%. Wear tests are really important. Bethany F. does honest first impressions, but she doesn't use the products for a significant amount of time or do wear tests to determine the longevity or performance of a product.
Love Allie but I'll have to check out Emily....
@@angelafahlenkamp9311 Emily is the most honest you will ever get.
She doesn't do collabs or adverts nada.
She is awesome 👌
Your diagram is 🔥
“Here’s the point… right here”
Lying is never okay. Whether “we all do it a little bit” or whatever that girl said.
Not calling out lying - normalizes lying which WILL eventually impact every one of us.
And ya, there’s bigger issues in the space, but that doesn’t take away the importance of HONESTY.
I 100% found the tea piping hot and we get a retrospective pov on a situation that many of us collectively knew about. It's lime watching an interrogation video when we already know the outcome of a trial, it's satisfying.
honestly, the touchy integrity of tiktok content creators just makes me want to go full circle and go back to those blogger and Wordpress websites
That Maddie girl made me so mad. Everyone online who is not a teenager considers you , @JenLuv to be the Gold Standard of reviews and product ingredients. You are trusted and respected. I just wanted you to know that ❤❤❤
My most trusted list of creators includes -
Shelly (Geek out of Water)
Cassie (Thrift Thick)
Emily Noel &
Taylor (Taylor Wynn)
Also can't forget to include YOU! Thank you for all your tireless hard work on keeping us informed of these situations! You are so appreciated!!!
@@Balletified Yeah, I don't have an oily skin type like Cassie but I enjoy watching her so much because she's so real. She doesn't have perfect skin and she actually shows you up close what the makeup looks like and how it applies and wears. It's so refreshing.
I agree. Cassie is there to test application and durability in daily life so she makes the effort to make the shot the most real. Taylor is great because she tests foundations in different lighting and cameras so you know if the product will work fro different occasions
Those are also my favorites! Jessica Braun too, she’s amazing!
Agree. I also trust Allie Glines.
Do some deep digging on Cassie. She's problematic for many reasons, unless she's changed recently.
Jen, I'm still trying to lift my jaw off the floor😵💫😵💫 You killed it on this one, you go girl👏👏👏
Thank you, Tara!! ❤❤❤
I love that you got the white board out! That was a fantastic way of explaining! Yes! It is a big deal! Normalize truth!! ❤thank you for this
I have several favorites but Jen Phelps is one of my favs! Also Kelly Gooch, zabrena and Jessica Braun!
I love how much you care about holding influencers and cosmetic brands accountable for their dishonest and unacceptable actions. I love that you revisit topics and update us. Small lies, big lies…lying is lying. It should not be normalize when you market yourself as an honest influencer.
oh, I absolutely agree! An influencer’s whole entire career is built on the trust of their followers, we need to trust that their recommendations are honest and solid! Ask for that gal Maddie, with 12 million followers who tried to normalize dishonesty, she could be in for a rude awakening. I think it’s a giant slap in the face to have 12 million followers as a beauty influencer and then give a thoughtless announcement that everybody lies, it’s normal. Not to mention, morally, it’s wrong! Like, lying is essentially bad. Little white lies are fine, of course, to spare the feelings of others but honesty is up there in characteristics that define good and bad people. Anyway, that’s my rant. Great comment!
I love a good deep dive into lipstickgate 😂
This is so helpful to know! When public health and safety is at stake, research by the public is so so crucial. We cant trust influencers to always sell safe products sadly. Thank you for doing so much work on investigating makeup!
I trust very very few influencers these days. You and RawBeautyKristi are it for me. I got sucker punched in the wallet too many times by, for example, Jacklyn. Nope. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping your viewership in mind. I, for one, truly appreciate you.
“But if you’re this dude over here then you don’t get the point, because you’re too far removed from it” - that whiteboard moment is my new favorite quote 😂💯
Came here because I saw Robert Welsh on your thumbnail and I was like who is this person dragging my fave into these shenanigans and then I stayed because your info and logic and stinking diagram of “the point” impressed me so much. I am only half through this video but I am a new sub~~you are a breath of fresh air in this space

I loveee and tried Tati's Westbrook recommendations for years and not a single regret. She is amazing
“Serving water bender tease” would probably be referring to Avatar, The Last Airbender, so you were on the money. Ok, if you haven’t watched ATLA, it’s fantastic! When it first came to Nickelodeon, we would watch it with our son and we all loved it so much. We were obsessed with it and would anxiously wait for Fridays when the new episodes would come out. It’s on Netflix now and it’s just as good rewatching now as it was then. Brilliant show and highly worth binging!
YES. I'm a number 9 with no legs. I rely on influencers with similar skin type etc to make my purchases. I am outraged !!! Thank you Jen for being so informative. Xoxo ♥️
I very rarely base purchasing decisions on influencer recommendations, and I'm upset too. You shouldn't have to be personally affected to understand that it's the principle of the matter! It's disturbing how callous some people are being.
Loved your cameo, even if it was brief!
Fabulous video! So lying is acceptable now and “everybody does it.” Says a lot about her and her followers! I’m glad I’ve raised my kids to be honest human beings and if they slip up they hold themselves accountable! I trust Tara Lynn, Jena Froese, Charlotte Holdcroft, Angie-Hot and Flashy, Wayne Goss, Dr. Dray, and Dr. Shereene Idriss to name a few. And of course you Jen!❤
TBH at this point I am 90% sure the MascaraGate is a very very very good marketing scheme! Everybody knows about their mascara now! And people will forgive and forget in no amount of time!
The amount of lies we take from social media and advertising is so huge it that at this point we cry about it while consuming the products! We scream we are lied and devour every ounce of the marketing! So the ball was always in our own backyard!
Bingo! Americans love drama, America worship frauds and crooks..you are absolutely correct..just look how Jacklyn continues to be successful after the filthy lipstick she sold us.
I bought it bc of the scandal, and I like it. I am also loving the drama!!!
I love SophDoesLife, she does a ton of reviews and tutorials and she’s so raw and honest!
Once someone lies to me Im done. Especially when you keep denying the lie. She showed us she doesn’t have integrity and thats important to me. If i watch reviews for a product that means i want to gain information in order to NOT waste my money . When you lie you are playing with people’s hard earned money. That will never sit well with me.
Maddie Lewis’ “everybody lies…” rant was so infuriating. No one values integrity? Lewis is dumb, her followers are gullible…no wonder this country is going down the toilet. Thank you for another great video 🙏
And she says EXpecially. For that reason alone, I would never be able to take her serious
Thank u, this was a great informative video. Kelly Strack is my "go-to" influencer. She's very sweet, no drama and she still genuinely gets excited over new products.
Wow. This is the stuff I’m looking for!!!! Thank you !!! It’s so easy to get swept up and I KNEW something sketchy was up!! Thank you for showing THE TRUTH and helping me know where to spend my hard earned money!! LETS NORMALIZE NOT LYING AND GET BACK TO HONEST MAKEUP REVIEWS! That’s why I came to UA-cam for makeup in the first place!!
I love your illustration of the point. False advertising is NEVER ok. People who buy based on demonstrations and then can’t achieve the same results often wind up thinking something is wrong with themselves and not the product.
My top 5 influencers are in order
1.) Robert Welsh( my holy grail) ♡
2.) Angelica nysqvist ( the auntie i never had) ♡
3.) Patty Alonzo ( miss congeniality)♡
4.) Alicia Archer ( shes just too cool) ♡
5.) Morgan Turner ( the girl who stole my bestie) ♡
I also love Morgan Turner.
@@nessa7431 yaaaay.. im not alone ♡
"I was an elementary school teacher" everything makes sense now thats why i understand everything jen says and i love her so much😂
I think what is scary is that Mikayla's is slowly becoming the new Jaclyn Hill. She does enough damage for one person we don't need 2 now :/
I’m disgusted and disheartened my that girl who came in to defend Mikayla. What is wrong with people?? Why do they think that everyone lies?
Jen, thank you for being so honest! Your view restores my faith in beauty UA-cam!
