I spent a month with him, on and off, when they used my target systems at Reagan's Ranch for the TV series "Stars Earn Stripes" several years ago.

I cried when I watched the movie...how very sad to have made it through 4 tours of duty only to be murdered by someone who was supposedly on the same side after he got home... I hope they hang his murderer, crazy or not.I loved the movie and hope the Kyle family can heal as much as possible. I am praying for them.

Yes, I know, and that makes sense. What doesn't make sense is letting someone you would describe as "nuts" handle a loaded weapon. Not to mention turning your back to that person while he's handling the weapon (IIRC, Chris Kyle was shot in the back).
They weren't at war and felt "safe" at home. No "enemy" was in sight. I can't explain it any other way. They let their desire to help override their instinct for self-preservation. I did like however how they portrayed that suspicious feeling his wife had that day in the movie. Their gut instinct wasn't wrong.

Since this happened I have always questioned why Chris continued to a gun range with someone he knew was nuts. He obviously knew the guy wasn't right by the text he sent his friend. I just find it confusing a trained SEAL wouldn't think that was a bad idea. I know he was helping people but there are things we all should go by in this world and one of them is never give a crazy person a weapon.

It's so terrible that they keep saying PTSD. This guy did NOT HAVE PTSD. He was schizophrenic and crazy. He was a repair person in the military and never saw combat. He had been having delusions for a long time and thought that other people were cannibals trying to eat him. He also had delusions saying a worm was eating him. After he shot Chris Kyle he told police he had to kill him because they were gonna take his soul. He had also been drinking and smoking that morning. Saying the guy has PTSD is a disservice to those who really have It. Up vote so others can see

Clint Eastwood’s version of “American Sniper” was a Hollywood production. The screenplay by Jason Hall mixed half truths with fiction. The scene where the “Hollywood Chris Kyle” looks through his scope at the young boy and says, “Don’t pick it up” was fictional.
It was not Clint Eastwood’s or Warner Brothers’ intent to make a film that was historically accurate. It was their job to make a film that would sell a lot of movie tickets. The “Hollywood Chris Kyle” played by Bradley Cooper needed to be “sanitized’ for the big screen. There was no mention of Chris Kyle’s web of fabricated stories.
There are people who thought the “Rambo” and “Top Gun” films were real…. as well as James Cameron’s “Titanic”. Some people can’t distinguish Hollywood productions from reality.

Amanda so sorry you would assume legal gun owners want murderers to own guns. Every legal gun owner passes a FBI background check before they can purchase. If you want to carry you have to go to local sheriff's department and pass a criminal background check. It usually takes a month and oh yea there is the mandatory training by a licensed weapon instructor at a dealer store who carries a federal firearm license. That's the legal process. Just fyi

As a psychologist you don't take a supposedly insain man to a gun range and put a gun in his hand. That so-called doctor should have been charged as an accessory to murder and he should have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole just like the killer.
