I am curious as to why you had snow chains on the tires ? Does it help in the mud where you are ? I've just never seen it done for mud before ... Also , the rear steer on the purple rig surprised me ... Wasn't sure what happened until he turned it again ...
Yes, chains are sometimes used here in NZ in very muddy conditions to avoid wheeelspin ripping the bogs up. Even extreme mud terrain tyres can be insufficient on the West Coast. Note how the white Rangie made it through with chains on all wheels, whereas the blue one got stuck. I've used chains before on serious mud and slick grass, and the difference is unbelievable. Contrary to popular belief, there's usually less track damage if you use chains, as they avoid the need to spin wheels to clear tread, which is what destroys tracks here. Hope that clears things up.
