This video was the first I had even heard of NFC tags. Thanks so much for the very informative video. I just completed my install, but was too lazy to take the frunk liner out, I put the tag inside the windshield bottom corner. I dont think a groovy little bit of hardware looks out of place there, and it works fine.

Did you think about using heavy duty on-metal NFC tags? I haven't tried it but I will. Regular NFC tags don't work on metal obviously, NTAG13 in theory would work but you still need some type of direct access between the tag and the phone. I wonder if the gap of the frunk cover would be enough. I'll find out!!

A good movie. I need to remove the bumper for another reason :( but I want to ask what NFC app are you using, I have the same NTAG215 tags as you but I can't find an app that supports

@@wonked Thanks. I assume you also installed Bolt Plugins for Tesla, the question why they need tesla my user and password ?!
It needs the login details because it uses the Tesla API to open the frunk, ie. It sends the open frunk message via the internet. Unfortunately there's no way to do it locally via Bluetooth besides using the actual Tesla app.
There doesn't seem to be a Tesla Plugin for Tasker in the Apple app store. Is there another way to make it work on my iPhone?
Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone but there should be a lot of alternatives that work on iOS.
You can use Siri shortcuts. I sont have an iphone, so I havent done it myself, but I saw some reddit posts about it
Could anyone with NFC smartphone open your Tesla?
No they wouldn't be able to open it. The Tasker plug-in can open it because it has an authorised token which you give it when you first set it up. It uses that token to make the API call to open the frunk.
