    9:28 typically it’s actually 1 step process since your phone acts as a fob just touch the button above the license place OEM and it opens or use your foot kick under bumper since you have the auto open close aftermarket accessories, but I get where you getting at. The prob. with this is you constantly have to take your phone out and unlock it for it to work with is an inconvenience.

Sounds silly but I was watching Netflix a few days ago in the 3 and didn’t want to fish the series I was watching to simply open the glovebox. A tag would have been great for me in that particular situation. Great idea! (Tesla could have actually put some kind of physical button on the reverse of the screen also which I thought will have been good)

  • @kennethjones8683
    @kennethjones8683 4 роки тому +1

    Just NO everyone! Do not put an NFC on the outside of your car to open your frunk or trunk. I got down voted on Reddit and I'll say this again. All someone has to do is duplicate this NFC which is not difficult to do. Then next time your in line or sitting at a restaurant - someone can open your frunk or trunk while being near your phone. Increase this NFC signal strength and they don't have to get uncomfortably close to you. Convenience over security is not worth it. Security is only as good as it's weakest link - NFC is not secure.

    • @TeslaRaj
      @TeslaRaj  4 роки тому +3

      Clearly you don’t quite understand how this works. Let me explain. NFC tag is triggering an action on your phone. It’s telling your phone to use your Tesla login to trigger an action. So anybody “cloning” an NFC chip wouldn’t do anything because they don’t have any automations linked to it on their phone nor do they have your login credentials. In this example NFC is just a trigger for your phone to act.

    • @MikeBrokenArrow
      @MikeBrokenArrow 4 роки тому +1

      @@TeslaRaj actually Kenneth is right. Once NFC is copied, they can approach your phone (doesn't have to be too close with the booster), which will trigger YOUR phone to act on that NFC that, s.a. open trunk, etc.

    I guess I consider that silly. Because I can open the charge port door by pressing the button on the wall connector which is in my hand anyway when I am going to plug it into the car in the first place. No need to be carrying an extra item in my hand like a bulky smartphone just to open the chart port door. Then I can open the frunk by pressing the keyfob which is in my pocket right at my waist, rather than reaching down and holding the phone out in my hand next to the bumper or against the wall in my house where I have stuck some item on my wall which would look silly. Again I can open trunks and frunks with a simple double click on a keyfob which is in my pocket, and I do not even have to look at it, or pull anything out or hold it against anything at all. My whole point of my phone is that it is on my waist under my belt and I never have to touch it, never have it tethered to a charging cable, pick it up, or look at it to place or answer calls. I think the use of smartphones it just less convenient and more bulky than the way that it could be done otherwise. I was using cell phones hands free in the late 80s even when they were the size of a brick; much larger than a smartphone. Then phones got smaller and more convenient than a smartphone, then they got larger again. Things have become kind of absurd really.

    If you have kids, then you could also put some NFC tags inside the back of the car (on the back of the center console maybe?) for your kids to control seat heaters, the AC, music and such

    • @ariip
      @ariip 4 роки тому

      Should the rear passengers need to change the settings with any frequency or would you want them fiddling around or changing things constantly. You would want the climate the way you want. Is the climate really going to be any different in the back then the front anyway. As the driver and adult, I would just say that you should be in control. But in order to do that they need to hold their smartphone up. So they can just use the app anyway to do that without the tags. ?? The tags do not really seem to be advantageous or necessary. As I said, I can open the charge door with the wall connector button which I am holding anyway, and my keyfob is easier to press even while it is in my pocket to open the trunk or frunk. Just sounds like a monetary sale going on here.

    • @sebbikul5045
      @sebbikul5045 4 роки тому +2

      @@ariip I think it would be easier for the kids to turn on their seat heater by tapping a NCF tag, instead of asking the driver to do it, therefore distracting him and forcing him to take his eyes of the road, or unlocking your phone, opening the Tesla app (typing in the password if you've password locked it), Waiting for the app to load, Going into the climate menu and clicking on your seat. Also, not every Model 3 owner has a key fob in their pocket all the time, a lot of Model 3 owners doesn't even have a key fob because they don't like to carry keys everywhere, so they can't open their frunk by double tapping on the key fob, and that makes using a NCF tag much easier for access to the frunk. And if some people like using NCF tags to control their cars, why do you care? Let them do it, it looks cool, is a nice party trick, it's makes certain stuff easier, and super cheap. So stop replying to people's comments saying how useless this is, when multiple people have said that this have helped them, and made stuff easier for them. If you don't like the video, then leave, watch another video instead of wasting your time trying to convince people that this is bad, when their personal opinion is that it's not

    Tesla keycard is definitely not nfc. I think it's RFID or something. I have never heard of anything that should be safe uses nfc.

    • @TeslaRaj
      @TeslaRaj  4 роки тому +1

      I stand corrected. The manual does call it out as RFID. However NFC is also based on the RFID protocols. Because of the short read range limitations, NFC devices have to be in very close proximity - usually no more than a few centimeters. That's why NFC is often used for secure communications, especially for access controls or in the consumer sector for contactless payment.
      Either way it’s all based on the same short range communication

    • @MrPosran
      @MrPosran 4 роки тому +2

      Tesla Raj after a bit of research I think I understand how this works. The NFC tag is basically tied to the shortcut that is locally stored on the phone and when the phone’s NFC is activated it matches the tag with the shortcut and executes it.
      I’m a bit more used to the NFCs that run the same on everyone’s device - like automatically connecting them to wireless without having to type in the password. This is actually a very strong reason to justify getting a new iPhone - Apple really should make commercials showing the benefits of some of the things you can do with automation through NFC (not just with a Tesla).

      You still can buy a very old android, it should be very cheap because it's old, or maybe someone in your family or a friend would have one he doesn't use anymore to give you. You just need a working battery and sometime when it's old, this could be a problem because some people just forget the phone with empty battery and so the battery is destroyed, but it could worth the try, if you are into it. I never used those tags, I always thought that the assistant was more my type, and with the routines some actions can be done with others without asking specifically. But it could be very useful for the wifi connection when you rent a place for example.

      The stats app has these commands. So as long as you have Stats app you can use it to create siri commands to close and/or NFC. Keep in mind that closing is only supported if you have installed an auto frunk/trunk kit. Check my earlier videos on them from teslaoffer.com and discount code.

      It’s getting cold I’m the morning and I like to enter my car at a comfortable temperature. Granted not as bad as other areas of the world and I am parked in a garage. But if your in colder climates or parked outside its awesome

    Can you do this with the basic struts the model 3 comes with? Or do you have to install something prior to using the NFC pad thingy?

    • @TeslaRaj
      @TeslaRaj  4 роки тому

      You can use it using original struts it just won’t open all the way. Original struts will pop it open and you still have to lift it

    • @TeslaRaj

      I placed it on an NFC tag. When you do that the tag tells your phone to set temp in car. You configure what you want the tag to do. All instructions in video

    • @TeslaRaj
      @TeslaRaj  4 роки тому

      Different strokes for different folks. Not everybody likes talking out loud to their phones and some don’t have  watches. Just another cool option that allows automation for your home too

    • @Yang-xv1on
      @Yang-xv1on 4 роки тому

      Tesla Raj Agree. Even for the home this is one more step on top of existing shortcuts. Definitely a good case if you cannot speak when operate. But if you can use voice command, you don’t even need to unlock the phone, I guess that’s the most convenient way. Hey, at least you provide another opinion.

      Funny that it is easier to not have to pull my phone off my belt at all to make or receive calls, or how others have to pull it out of their pocket, or stick silly things to my wall when I can just press my keyfob button for the trunk or frunk while it is in my pocket, press the wall connector button to open the charge port. Using the app to turn on the heat for that one thing is not a big deal when you are getting ready or sitting down for breakfast etc. People use texting (which I do not because it is nonsensical) which is in fact nothing more than a portable telegraph and the telegraph went away with the advent of the telephone around 100 years ago.

    • @TeslaRaj
      @TeslaRaj  4 роки тому +1

      It is but man do I find it worth it. I use it so much. Even before all this to easily swipe right and pop the frunk was game changing. Not only commands but just to see health of battery, be able to see phantom drain, create siri commands has been well worth the money. Remember if you follow us on twitter and tweet us some ideas you could win a free copy of Stats ;)

      Stats is a one time fee and does help the Tesla community with features and advancements. One nice feature is tracking of your cars battery degradation over time. Stats will show you a graph of how it's doing.
