You had me at Dragonite.
Bro, congrats on the SA regional win! It was awesome to see it in person!
Me too😊
He had me at Dragon- because I am dragon my balls across your forehead 😊.
No Special Z Move, No Mega, No Dynamax Form, yet Dragonite is out here thriving.
No good stab options for 30 years but it’s still good.
@@TheUnique69able Almost 28 years, but I'll let it slide.
@@enoyna1001he rounded up…it’s been about 30 years 😂
All of those got removed, but Dragonite gets to keep multiscale and extremespeed ☺
Lance dragonite literally has a dynamax form
Dragonite has always been a statement to me. It doesnt get most of what the other psuedo legend dragon mons get, but that has never stopped it from competing.
I hadn't noticed how hard Gen 6 dogpiled on Dragonite. Pretty much every pseudolegendary bar Hydreigon (who hardly needed one) got a Mega. *Audino* Got a mega.
And then they added a type totally immune to him to top it off
no more outrage spam 😔
He's my favorite Pseudo bc of his duality: adorable and always powerful at least for a time in any generation
5:55 hiii thats me! Ironically i used Dragonite on the special side with Hurricane, Draco Meteor and Flamethrower @Habanberry as a somewhat reliable Anti-weather mon. At this timeframe, many rain dance teams where roaming around with Ludicolo (and Kingdra) as its main Attackers and i needed something which can One- shot Ludicolo/Kingdra. Flamethrower also helped against the rare Abomasnow and did nice damage against Metagross and Scizor.
Lets just say it worked quite nice atleast for that time.
Woah, that’s so cool! Those moves were definitely better STAB moves than the Physical ones it got at the time, so that was a good call!
Glad you found the video!
I know the editing doesn't affect the quality of the ideas shared, but they make it very enjoyable to watch as a background to the video essay.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun with this one 🙃
@pokezach494_ it was damn good!
My favorite Pokemon. I'm glad Extreme Speed gave D its flowers..I hadn't realized how fitting that was
How to make an overshadowed Pokemon good: Turn it into a Non-Restricted E-Killer Arceus
Everyone knows this but I will bring it up again the only reason dragonite didn’t get a mega was because the Pokémon company was not going tot add a “Dragoniteite” to the game
It would have been way too silly of a name… 😆
Yet they added “duduncsparce” in the game
Dragonite has been my favorite Pokémon since I first beat red version back in 2000 and seeing it in the first movie. I’m glad to see it getting some love.
Dragonite is my favorite Pokémon, and seeing this video made my day honestly
Pokemon team making HGSS: What if the Dragon's Den gave the player a Dratini with Extreme Speed? That would be a fun reward for the quiz!
Dragonite in SV: "I AM THE FASTEST! ME! ME!"
It was already implemented in GSC and 'only' remade in HGSS
16:26 Still proud of having this plushie
IT’S SO GOOD he’s just a little guy
loving the long form content, especially considering how fun the editing is :)
Thank you for that! I had a lot of fun making it :)
This is a great video format, Ray. Very enjoyable. I hope you make more "History of Pokemon" videos.
A key thing not mentioned is that Multiscale and Extreme Speed were illegal together in generation 5 and 6, with it becoming possible in generation 7 due to becoming an egg move.
What? Extremespeed was an egg move since Gen 4. Whatcha talking bout lol
Check serebii
A lot of work seemingly went into the editing of this video, it really paid off! 😸
Overtime ive started to love dragonite alot
Great movepool, great abilities for both smogon and vgc, looks cool as hell, weirdly balanced defensive type
Favourite Pokemon ever - I used to use him in showdown allll the time in gen 6 and 7 and adored him
Dragonite is my favorite pokemon! I've always loved his niches in every metagame, singles included. But normal has always been my favorite type though, so I was so happy when Normal Type Dragonite was very powerful and pretty fun to use, especially in formats as fun as the early gen 9 regs.
I saw what you did with the Vaporeon cameo, Ray or Ray's editor. I don't like it, but I saw that.
Ah my bad my bad 😞
In the battle stadium 3v3 singles format, Dragonite is a centralizing force in the meta. It’s on everyone’s team, and you don’t know whether it’ll be Extreme killer or a bulky support mon.
I love Dragonite, his design is amazing and simple. What bothers me the most is that in every interpretation of Dragonite by lore and media exposure - he is super fast. So why TF is his base speed so slow for such a speedy dragon?! His base speed is tied with Venusaur
Another great video, I feel like this format should become a regular thing. On the topic of Dragonite, it was my favorite Pokemon as a kid, that sort of changed after I got back into Pokemon and discovered VGC, but now I am just glad that I can use it in a productive way. I remember when the first D-Nite Extreme Speed stuff came up and some people were not convinced at first, but it truely did stick around.
7:24 “like moonblast…” hahaha majors mask moon comes barging in 😂😂❤
Excellent video, excellent editing. Great topic choice too. I love VGC history. Can't wait to see more of this kind of content. Keep it up Ray.
Fantastic vod from the 🐐
I used dragonite during reg b and had a lot of success. The newly found inspiration has led to building 4-5 different build dragonites and having a lot of fun with them.
We love you @Ray Rizzo
You should cover the Gen 4 starters next. Empoleon and Infernape were the first ever starters to succeed in doubles, and at the time, this was extremely rare due to a lack of hidden abilities.
Great video! Love the editing!
Not only has it dominated in VGC it’s also got a fashion collab with fashion brand Fendi
14:46 ayo thts me? Ray Rizzo knows I exist ? thats crazy
Your footage was very helpful in the making of this video, thank you sir 🫡
Great video! Love to see Dragonite doing well now
This pokemon is special to people that have been playing since gen 1 like me. So great to see it winning.
Perfect timing, given d-nite was on half the top 8 in Portland and on both #1 and #2. Dragonpao is definitely a thing to be prepared for
Dragonite in the thumbnail: I finally found it, now who’s gonna stop me?!
Bot comment
Amazing video! Loved it 🎉
The real normal type dragon.
Great video!! I would love to see more content like this from you 😁
Dragonite getting no mega never made sense to me, but now i dont mind and am almost glad he didnt
Been waiting for a video like this! I cannot tell you how happy I was when SV VGC gave mah boi it's time to shine!
Glad to hear and see that the 1st ever pseudo legendary finally gets the treatment it deserves.
Loved it ever since the Orange Islands finale when it swept through Ash's team.
I'll never forget the moment when it launched at ultra high speed after Charizard; you knew that it was an absolute unit
The vgc king is back
16:22 Guess Arcanine is now a distant relative of Donphan😆
Shiny Dragonite is my all time favorite Pokémon.
yeah not gonna lie i was moved at that moment when BB champion sent out dragonite
Ah man this video was so well made I love the no heatran zone reference!
if tera types are gonna leave next gen (which they probally will), i hope that they mayve give dragonite some regional form that is maybe normal dragon so it can atleast still use stab extreme speed
That would be so cool
Let him cook with the normal dragon
The editing is great in this one👍
I appreciate that! Thanks!
dragonite is my favorite pokemon i love him so much
This my favorite Mon you the real MVP for this 💪🏾
I have the American and Korean version of that DP Event Dragonite.
I want to mention that Iron Thorns is one of my favorite Pokémon of gen 9
Thank you Daniel Maynard for telling us about your favorite Pokémon of Gen 9 🫡
@@pokezach494_ Actually Dudunsparce is my favorite Gen 9 Pokémon, and Iron Thorns is in second place
Who’s your thumbnail artist? They’re amazing!
Amazing video!
Very cool that Dragonite got its deserved glory. Cool series. Thanks for putting in the time and effort. I eat up VGC history haha
Dragonite is a really decent mon and i think Gamefreak is waiting on the right time to give Dragonite AND Flygon some real love, I wish we'd get two forms for Dragonite, Physical and Special just like Basculegion and have them be dubbed as " Mystic Forms".
Since when did the goat do youtube
In gen 5 OU I had a rain team with a special attacking choice scarfed Dragonite with Thunder, Hurricane, and Draco Meteor. That thing was a monster I miss it so much.
A fair buff for outrage (and similar moves) would be for it to automatically target the opponent with higher hp . Still wouldn't be able to pick, but at least you'd have an idea of what would happen to plan ahead
That’s an interesting idea for sure… though this might make it even weaker in competitions because your opponent would always know which of their Pokémon it would target and could easily play around it
It would ideally be the slot in front of the Pokémon, but it offers similar counterplay.
They really made him the favorite, great video!
finding out ray the rizz rizzo hhas a youtube channel is like finding out Michael Jordan just started as a personal trainer at my gym love it
this was super interesting!
I like Dragonite because it can be cute and cuddly but also strong and ferocious
It’s everything you’d want in a Pokémon for real
Great vid, how about history of empoleon? The penguin is a former world champ
Would love to see this style of video about some unusual world champion pokemon!
Dragonite is my fav dragon ever since I picked it up during my first jotho playthrough, glad its tearing up the meta to shreds now.
Nice video! Dragonite won this weekend too :)
another victory for the OG
Dragonite the goat
One of my favorite
New king of Official Singles and has been since day 1 bss scarlet and violet
Shows how GameFreak just don’t care about some Pokémon. But Dragonite has still thrived in Singles for nearly 30 years. Tera and Gen 9 has helped Dragonite
Yeah yo Tera Normal Porygon-Z Hyper Beam will rule the world!
the video editing is top notch stuff
Much appreciated! Thank you!
Peak Dragonite Content
Dragonite has always been one of my favorites.
love the Pokemon Shuffle Icon
Good thing I majored in Unknown text in college. Consider me subbed
Never stood out to me before that he should have got a mega but never did, shame.
The way you said dragonite 💧😔🎯
Love that tier list Unkown plug!!
Hehe I got cheeky with it :)
10:31 garchomp becomes fnaf
Hahaha yes!! You found him! I was wondering if anyone would
one of the most iconic pokemon
I love this type of videos. Greetings from Germany
One of pokemons greats
You had me at Dratini
People always say Goodra is too cute for a Pseudo legendary firstly why is that a bad thing secondly Dragonite the first pseudo legendary ever is super cute ash's especially was adorable
Algorithm food
Dragonite was always good
People just didn't know how to appreciate it til lately
I may be biased though
You had me at yad
I’d like two see a vid about Hydreigon; I love my dark types
Dragonite is perfection
How have I not been recommended ray's channel earlier? UA-cam is slacking; google deepmind should've been on that.
Dragonite Been good since gen 5!! Thanks to Multiscale..
Despite being the first Pokemon to have it, Dragonite has been somewhat held back by its dragon type. It probably would have had more success as a Normal/Flying so it could get that juicy STAB on Extremespeed (or Hyper Beam in gen 1).
wha...what did you mean when you showed a Vaporeon as you said "breedable pokemon"???
Comparing the doubles history to singles is hilarious. According to FSG, Dragonite's had a long list of awards in singles.
Yup
