it would be sooo epic of ray wins a 4th world championship and takes metagross to the top once again 🏆🌎
It’s not that gross now with heavy slam
Gouging fire is not gonna let that happen
@@treysmith9314 depends on the set and if the tera is used (i've seen many tera fairy gouging fires)
metagross can technically win a world championship just by being on a winning even if it isn't used in battle (thereby avoiding a gouging fire matchup)
It’ll be very cool if that happens. But let’s be real, even for Wolfey who’s keeping up with VGC for years nonstop along with good results, winning worlds is still a hard thing. Even if Ray is as good as he was a decade ago, giving him this expectation for his returning is still a bit toxic.
@@zhanlin6179 just qualifying for worlds is crazy hard, let alone winning it.
ray winning for a 4th time (with or without a metagross) would make for an amazing story, but is highly unlikely.
its probably more wishful thinking than toxic tho
GameFreak needs to grow some balls and give metagross shift gear
Bro wtf, no 😂
Enjoy your dislike @@joegarcia0
@@joegarcia0yes ,Yes, YES!
Relax satan
@@joegarcia0Ngl next generations power level would probably actually make this balanced and finally give him the UU placement he deserves(shift gear metagross isn’t hitting Ubers or OU, to many ground and fire types would don’t care about it kingambit, Darkrai, meowscarada can do something, and Doubles in general)
Nvm I was wrong
Calling yourself a washed up king is hilarious 😂
hasn't won a worlds in a while
@@AlmostNamedOnehas not played worlds in a while , went out on top
oh i thought he just stopped being the best
@@AlmostNamedOne na he does commentary now for regionals and all
He is the only person to win worlds 3 times
Great video, I'd also add that Metagross was the best mon in Gen 3 VGC as well, Isao Yoshioka won Japan Nationals 2004 with it, and Takashi Mase used it to win in 2005, it was also the most used in the 2005 format.
I think Metagross was on at least a few of the winning teams in 2006’s JAA.
One of my all time faves. Still bring my shiny cherish ball metagross forward from ORAS every gen for celebrity appearances on the ladder
SAME
My Boi just casually inserted clips of him beating Wolfey in this video. Gotta love their friendship :)
lmao and "Aaron Cyberton Zheng here"
Metagross in the Past:Kaboom?
Arceus:Yes Metagross,Kaboom.
Metagross and Incineroar. The strongest Pokemon in history vs the strongest Pokemon of today.
Metagross really hit that "Nah I'd win" on Incineroar
Metagross really tried to break and repair its brain with five Zen Headbutt Domain Expansions, and still lost
Incineroar really hit Metagross with the "With this treasure I summon, Dark Lariat."
@@iantaakalla8180 Zenin Headbutt
@@AuroraBoost you got it reversed bud
Love these deep dives! Can’t wait for more!
Cool to see you making content. I remember the Wigglytuff regional win you got in X and Y and it got me to take VGC seriously.
Funny how Beldum is still so hard to catch when metagross is no longer nearly so intimidating
It doesn't have take down anymore and is easier to find, so it's not so bad anymore.
My first ever shiny was a shiny metang in Pokémon black, I got it to 1hp and paralyzed it, then used over 300 timer balls on it without catching it, then after I used up all my revives it killed itself by hitting my volcarona 💀
This happened so long ago but I still remember it clearly and despise the metagross line to this day
@@Greninja3366 I feel bad for 2 reasons. One is the fact that you went through that, and the other is that I caught the shadow Metagross in coliseum in a pokeball on my first try.
@@gregorymirabella1423 in fairness, that metagross's catch rate was bumped up to 45 instead of 3
@@atpyro7920 ...I didn't know that. I feel a lot less special now.
Not washed, just a retired king.
It still makes me so sad that he got cheated out of his world's qualification this last competitive year. I think he had a very real chance of having an amazing world's run, and I was so excited for the storyline.
The gutting of explosion was a really unfortunate change, but I get why GameFreak chose to do it. Thanks for making this vid, because I think a lot of people these days really don’t understand how dominant Metagross was for a few generations, and hearing the GOAT talk about VGC Gross from firsthand experience is awesome.
Has been my favorite ‘mon since Steven Stone used it against me in Ruby and then gave me a baby Beldum. I’d love for it to see some competitive successes again!
metagross is one of my favorites! I hope it kicks ass in vgc now that it's back
Let me add that Metagross is, to no surprise, the king of Orre Colosseum (Gen 3 VGC) as well. Clear Body, access to the best physical movepool pre-phys/spec-split including the coveted EQ and Explosion (both of which get no spread damage reduction in gen 3) and the rare steel type with its amazing synergy with the other best mons, the Latis, make it the undisputed best physical attacker in the format.
@rayrizzo. You'll always be the goat. You're not washed
He has funny jokes
He's the eternal Opp of the Modern GOAT, Wolfe Glick. Wolfie and Ray are Metagross & Incineroar
@@SacredBlaziken TRUE
Steel types should still resist ghost. I have no idea why they changed that. Ghost is such a phenomenal typing both offensively and defensively. Metagross definitely suffered one of the hardest during that transition. Aegislash ruined everything lol
It's like bug not very effective against fairy
Steel is already one of if not the best type. It doesn't need more help
I forgot I got your metagross event pokemon until I saw the clip of your shiny metagross and then I remembered the distribution
My all-time favourite 'mon. Will never stop trying to force teams around it.
Same. Glad to see a fellow cultured pokemon fan worshipping at the church of Metagross
Metagross for life!!!
Same! He's been in 90% of my teams
MY MAN!
Ray huge hatts off for such an epic editing and talking about my favorite Pokemon too 😁❤
Metagross has always been my fav pseudo legend so it’s sad to see where it is
I havent subbed to anyone in a long while but i just did. This channel will go somewhere.
Great thumbnails! Wouldn’t of found the channel without them
More of these please 👏🏼
the thumbnail is sick
“Metagross, *much like myself sadly* , is the washed up king”
Me: Huh? _checks channel_ WAIT WTF? RAY RIZZO?!
0:20 Sonic Boom! Nice!
You forgot to mention it has the best shiny in the game.
Jokes aside, great video great editing🎉
It's the same with Empoleon. Steel types losing the 2 resistance, and now losing Scald, really sealed the deal on Empoleon opportunity to finally shine big.
The editing in this video is top-notch! I cracked up at the car crash.
Thank you sir, I appreciate that 🫡
I love how you used the clip of Goh catching a Beedrill
Fun fact: beldum's got the same catch rate as arceus, except it can kill itself.
Metagross one of the few pseudos directly nerfed like 3 times it was so sad
Babe, wake up, new Ray Rizzo
Metagross SHOULD have a good showing in gen 9 VGC especially with buffs in Heavy slam and bullet punch with CB sets to deal with mane. Psychic Fangs can be significant to break through against the recent regional uproar of specs Articuno with veil A-Ninetales. It still has good support offense in knock off is superb for rocky helmet/choice users. Personally, if the Snow teams with cuno and A-Ninetales continue to be threats, Metagross alongside other good counters like tera water Ting-lu would bring major assets to the table as counterplays while serving as threatening offensive pokemon.
Being weak to Fluttermane and Dark Shifu just hurts it so much though.
Mainly the latter.
If it wasn't for that I think Metagross would be on more howl teams.
Now let's just give him shift gear and watch the world burn.
it's important for newer players to know that, despite every speed stat shown being numerically the same as their base speed at 15:00, doubling the speed stat *is not* the same thing as doubling the base speed stat
fully invested neutral nature mega swampert (base 70 speed) has 239 speed at level 100. During rain, its speed goes up to 478, which would be equivalent of a pokemon having nearly *190 base speed*
every stat that isnt hp has about 20 "base" points from ivs and 30 from max evs, so mega swampert has essentially base 190 on rain, which for gen7 uu was so juicy
Great editing!
I really liked this video. I have been wanting to play older gen formats with my friends, but I can't find much infk about those metas and strategies of that time. I hope that is something you can make a video on
If you're interested in older gen game play, at least for singles, big yellow, reverend, and plague von karma are great for gen 1, jimothy cool has a good amount of gen 3 content, and bkc for gen 1-4 content and some other gens here and there, with a ton of good gen 2 content. You can also look up pre-built teams and viability rankings for old gens to get a good idea of how to build a team in any individual generation.
@mainzer45 where can I look up for pre built teams for older gen? Is there a website that has all that info? Maybe info on older metas and so forth
@@troybrockmorales1444 just start by looking up generation(IE rby/gsc/rse/dpp) then prebuild, normally you'll find them on the smogon forums. Same as the viability rankings. Prebuild teams on the forums tend to have explanations of their roles as well in the metagame, and so do many viability rankings.
Mega-Metagross was SO COOL
“If you’re nothing without the Metagrossite, then you shouldn’t have it.”
Gouging fire howl + life orb metagross is soooo good
It's less of a fall from grace and more of a retirement
7:48 Wolfe is a complete chad rolling with all shinies to the top of worlds stage
12:40 ULTRAKILL DETECTED
It's funny how you called yourself washed Ur the vgc goat
I played the early games when they were released without realising that steel was resistant to dark and ghost.
I’m gonna say it again megas coming back with dynamic speed would be crazy
Holy Moly its Ray Rizzo
I feel bad for metagross 😢
same, my boi got nerfed 😢
@@The_Psycho_Red_RangerI wouldn’t say NERFED, I’d say he’s just retired, and he deserves a healthy retirement for being peak
The unfortunate thing about Metagross is that people are still stuck on the explosion strats with it, going with normal tera explosion, which in my opinion is holding it back. The problem is now everyone knows about the infamous tera normal explosion strat and it's super easy to deal with (just double protect). Anyways I'm now off to build a metagross team because I'm inspired.
Don't forget Tera Water Metagross to have it have coverage against Fire Types.
Rip the entirety of gen3 VGC, cool video otherwise!
I miss old explosion. The move was balanced well enough as it was, it didn't need to lose the defense lowering. Although, that said, I don't find explosion strategies fun to begin with, I just want them to be worth considering in serious play again
Great content I’m contented
my favorite pokémon
WE NEED RAY BACK 🙏
Wish they gave him though claws as a hidden ability. His hidden ability is just to bad and psychic type is very bad atm, they could even buff meteor mash is kinda mid atm.
one of Metagrosses worst hits was the weakness to ghost and dark so many strong ghosts and mega gengar trapped and hit it's weaker special defence... Aegislash could easily tank an earthquake and kill it back with a spec shadowball
And this regulation, while not being common it certainly is a monster of a mon
love your videos keep it up man 😎
They robbed Metagross with the levitate hidden ability.
Bro got shafted hard by mechanics changes. First it was the explosion nerf, then the nerf to steel, power creep, losing mega in Gen 8
Actually, if explosion cuts the opponent’s defense in half, that is the equivalent to giving the move a base 50% power boost. So that means explosion is effectively 375, and not doubled to 500.
250 / 0.5 = 500
Name three world pokemon world champions who have three world champion wins
1.Ray rizzo
2.Metagross
3.inceneroar
Great video from the goat 🐐💯💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
11:04 I never expected seeing an economics concept in a discussion of Mega Pokemon.
Weakness Policy Agility Bulldoze is my favorite flavor of Metagross
Nice vid' and instructive ! Thanks !
subscribed, glad I just found this channel, awesome and insightful video, thank you
i was gonna scream primal groudon as the most prevalent comp pokemon
Incineroar was busted then they gave him parting shot like why he was already winning every world championship he doesn’t need parting shot.
Huh...always thought that Tyranitar was the most storied pseudo legend. The more you know 🌠
Metagross is my favourite pseudo-legendary right after Garchomp. I rememeber finally evolving one as a child in Ruby, and being amazed at just how strong and durable it was. I didn't understand weaknesses and resistances very well back then (I mean, I was 4), I only knew that barely any attack damaged it in any substantial way, and it punched like a truck in return
All you had to say in one breath is: steel types no longer resist ghost and dark.
Did y’all know Ray won a world championship
Boy do I have news for you
I'm guessing you are beeing ironic...
Awesome video. I totally forgot that steel used to resist dark and ghost. Fairy/Steel is truly the new Psychic/Steel.
Edit: accidentally wrote psychic instead of steel. Now corrected.
You mean Steel right 😅
@@Smart1529 yeah hahaha
Ray, i wna see u back on competitive pokemon just to see wolfe and ray rematch
When Megas are back, Metagross will be TERRIFYING with all the moves it gained access to in Scarlet/Violet
One of my favorite mons ever! HYYYYPE 🍻🙌🏽🎉
Metagross has always been my favorite pokemon, but I never knew he was THIS good!
Metagross my dude
Tried it in competitive...too bad dark urshifu exists. Also flutter mane can survive a bullet punch and threaten with shadow ball.
Ok so Ray is the Metagross to Wolfey's Incineroar, got it
Just give it a regional form that swaps psychic for anything else. Ghost, fairy, ground, flying, roc- okay maybe not anything but the point still stands.
It’s weird referring to Ray Rizzo as washed.
Ray Rizzo = Jordan
Wolfey = Lebron
Ray sensei 🙌
What sucks is King gambit toilet seat having ass just is better if not more tanky and defiant is better than clear body. It's over for Metagross I tried making it work with weakness policy and nope no luck
Its better in singles now I'm in master ball tire with metagross singles I believe the highest you can take metagross in dubble is ultra ball rank
C'mon man dont do that to my boy Parasect lol
Why did metagross never get the ability levitate? It makes alot of sense to have it
Make steel resist ghost and dark again
I know moxie boosted wanted Metagross to get shift gear, but is the set up that worth it? I ask because I know sometimes people think if a pokemon needs set up it may not be “good”
Short answer yes. Agility weakness policy was already pretty solid, it only needs 1 turn with shift gear to be a huge menace, which it will get from its bulk. As for setup mons not being good, it can be true sometimes but there's also trick room for example which takes bad pokemon (too slow to do anything) and makes them great
Aye, don't worry! I'm old enough to know what Metagross is! LMAO
nice video!
Let's find out how good was Metagross actually🌚
perfect video!
Imagine if Metagross got Unseen Fist
I wish metagross got more used often in compaditive.
I love that pokemon ^^
Such a shame that metagross's hidden ability is effectively useless. Imagone if it had something cool, like giving it back its ghost and dark resistances
